Does anybody else admire Joe Starks in a way? Of course the man was arrogant, and insensitive; but you have to take into account the time period and how most men treated their wives, or women alone during the time. Look at it this way- he arrived to this wooded cult like village with practically nothing but the clothes on his back, and built it up to a small working class town.

In the book Janie rarely talked or left the house/store and that was the point. She eventually comes out and finds her voice. She def wasnt helping build anything. I'm already disappointed by this movie. :(
