the main thing that would always go out on this car was the electronic igntion box under the hood on driver side.you would have to take a hammer and tap it .then the car would start right up.ford had alot of problems with this on alot of different style cars.

@thegreendoctor aye but reving a car from static when you just start it up especially a car before the 80's your pistons arnt coated well. Not very good for the engine. Best to roll around a bit and let the engine warm up first.

@Dunington The car had been warmed up before hand to open the automatic choke. I gave it time to build oil pressure then let her rip. Also, at the time the engine had a melted piston and was due for a rebuild shortly after this video was taken.

This video brings back fond memories. My parents owned one (a 1976) that was the family car for several years and it ran like a watch. I also used to work on these quite a bit in high school. Muscle cars they weren't, but it's still automotive history.

@coltonwithano Look up the specs for the 1980 ford mustang: 4.2 V8. 119 HP. You're thinking of the 5.0 HO that didn't come out until 1987. Before that it had nowhere near 225.

Also, in 1984, when the SVO came out, the 2.3 turbo had the same amount of horsepower as the 5.0. I was merely pointing out that the II is not the worst mustang, Power-wise, the 1980 Fox Escor- (ahem) Mustang holds that title. I go by styling and personality of a car rather than just how fast it goes.

Its not that I hate the fox (though its definitely not my favorite), its more the general attitude of the owners(as expressed in these comments and comments sometimes made at car shows) . If I see a nice Capri, I'm much more likely to take a picture of it than a fox Mustang.

@thegreendoctor Ah. Yes, I know most fox owners can be a little naive. It takes some work to get them looking nice too. IMO, a V8 fox>A V8 II Whereas a 4cyl II and the King Cobra>4cyl fox and Cobra. The II's definitely have a lot more character than the cookie cutter shape (or as you say "Escort") of the fox Mustangs. Capri's are pretty hot though. Just my $0.02

Had on in the late 90's. Was a mess, but loved it. This car is on a short list of wants for me, including a 1975 MAlibu Classic, and a Late 70's Renault LeCar (Remember those?) Dude i have to admit, i have some issues with the cosmetics and the body look but its a mustang non the less.  The one thing that i kinda have a feeling about this model is that it sort of lost its touch as a muscle but like i said. That was a mix of the gasoline shortage and the introduction of the new emissions standards. Its the car that carried the Mustang name through hard times. Look around, how many other muscle cars are still being made? A lot of people may not like them, but they did their job and are one of the most unique looking cars on the road.

The Mustang II was a pretty good attempt to return to the original Mustang concept of being based on a run-of-the-mill compact economy car (the Falcon). It's certainly got a european look to it, which was quite unique among domestic built cars.

i love this car mainly because nobody likes it...im actually thinking of getting one of those. 2.3 for now, restore the whole thing and in a few years time gonna put a 4.9 V8 so the car got the looks and the power. also mustang2 looks much better in this version than the cobra style one. peace

What do you drive, a Honda Civic? I think you'd be surprised what this thing can do now... The worst ever built were the 79 - 81 mustangs. the base 2.3 was the same as the 74 -78s and the turbo version made less power stock than mine currently does N./A. I probably don't even need to mention the 5.0 V8 was a whopping 1 HP more powerful.

I'm sure that you've never even seen one of these let alone ridden in one. I had a couple friends that made fun a little but a short ride quickly shut them up.

But you having admitted being 15, would have no where near the amount of income to afford something like that unless it was given to you by your rich parents, and no one in their right mind would drive a fully restored car like that unless you live somewhere the winter can't touch it. Try a catalitic with a hole thru center in it, and a pipe to back. no muffler. I see the header.. I have one I used on my 2.3 as well. You would rev it to just over 3G and let off, and it would have a hell of a rap to it. But was fairly quiet normal driving.

The car was mostly stock when this video was taken. The only thing I did was an exhaust system. It is a Headman Hedder, no cat, 2 1/4" pipe, and a Flowtech Warlock muffler. I also did a smog and egr delete to the engine.
