Congress has rules and calling a President a liar is not allowed. I don't think its a good precedent having either party calling the President a liar especially in a Joint Session of Congress.
Secondly, I don't get why people are afraid of government competing with corporations. I don't see FedEx struggling with the US postal service. I don't believe the crap government will run private insurance out of business. Only incompetent insurance companies will go out of business.
It is a shame that this kind of debate is even taking place, as it is a modern device (the rules stating the measures of decorum) as in the old days there wasn't any such rule, and the senators or representatives could use the same speech as the rest of the public to show their displeasure with the sitting president.

"Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public optionH.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange."
That makes either Rep. Henry Waxman's(D) committee or Pres. Obama a liar.
I have read every single word of HR 3200. It states the NO federal funds will go to insuring illegal immigrants. There is also the same wording in other bills. Whats it matter anyway? However, consistency in the enforcement of same should also be the case, which brings me back to the point that you have not as yet addressed: why wasn't Pete Stark, a democrat, treated in the same manner as Joe Wilson? Pete Stark called Bush a liar in the well of Congress. He did not go through the process of admonishment that Joe Wilson did.
The attacks on former Pres Bush were addressed on the floor immediately by the presiding House Presidents. Any further admonishments would not have been necessary considering the fact that those members were publicly rebuked at the time.
Wilson however claims to have been remorseful, yet went on the most partisan of FOX News' shows to brag about his offense. I find that to be nearly as offensive as his outburst. Speaking out of both side of his neck defending what he's "sorry" for.

Basically what you're asking is why didn't the Republican house speak out against Pete Stark for disrespecting the former Pres. Firstly, and most importantly the Pres was not present at the time. That's the key difference here, those speaking out against the policies of the Bush or Obama administrations have that right even if it is arguably a low blow. To disrupt a speech being given by the President on nat TV on the floor is reprehensible.
Newport, I'm asking why didn't the DEMS treat Wilson's remarks the same way they did Stark's. Public or not, both made the same charge -- Stark got off with a rebuke; Joe Wilson received an admonishment, which is worse.
By your reasoning, telling the Prez 'you lie' to his face in public is worse than 'you're a liar' behind his back in the well of Congress. Both say the same thing -- punish one equally to the other, or not at all.
You're right, the rules are related specifically to disrespecting the President to his face.
I liken it to how the protesters brought loaded weapons to the Presidents speeches. The laws in the states are one thing, but had those nuts entered within a certain perimeter of the President, those State laws would have been totally inconsequential.
I also don't think (not sure) that the Democrats were in power when Stark spoke out, thus leaving the discretion to the R's in that instance.
Newport, that may be the case, but still the remarks, whether in person or safely away from earshot of the prez, should have been equally condemned by the dems with the same punishment exacted. They may have followed the letter of the law, but not the spirit of it, which was to discourage behavior of that type in the first place.
Dem-controlled or not, the indignation they expressed over Wilson is the same indignation that should have been expressed over Stark with the same consequences.

Congress has rules and calling a President a liar is not allowed. I don't think its a good precedent having either party calling the President a liar especially in a Joint Session of Congress.
Secondly, I don't get why people are afraid of government competing with corporations. I don't see FedEx struggling with the US postal service. I don't believe the crap government will run private insurance out of business. Only incompetent insurance companies will go out of business.

Boenher's arguments were silly ("... is a decent human being ... who spent 25 years of his life in public service ... who has 4 sons, all of whom are in the military..."). Wilson seriously screwed up. All he had to do was apologize to the body he offended and whose rules he broke. But politics advised against it, so he didn't. So the House passed a resolution of disapproval. Clear and simple (calling it partisan is BS). However, Boenher gets a pass, as he's a lawyer defending a guilty client.

Obama was lying. As for his outburst, the Dems already set the precident in '05 during Bush's State of the Union Address.

You apparently havent read the bill. According to the Congressional Research Service(CRS):
"Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public optionH.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange."
That makes either Rep. Henry Waxman's(D) committee or Pres. Obama a liar.

I have read every single word of HR 3200. It states the NO federal funds will go to insuring illegal immigrants. There is also the same wording in other bills. Whats it matter anyway? Illegal immigrants will continue to use the emergency rooms. In 8 years the Republicans didn't do shit about immigration issues, and now it is all the sudden a hot topic. Ridiculousy hypocritical!

Oh, so then you are familiar with what I quoted, which is what the Congressional Research Service quoted, and you would know that I am right. There can be no alternative to that. To say you have read the bill while deny what the CRS says about the bill is to either be a liar, or calling the CRS liars. Which is it? Are you calling Henry Waxman's committee liars, or is Obama lying, or are You lying? At least 2 people there are.

Whilst it is important for the House to observe a degree of decorum so that the proceedings do not descend into the pandemonium of a chimp's tea party, much more respect would be forthcoming from the members of the House and/or the onlooking electorate and their children, if the House was employed in the debate of well-reasoned-policies, which will not imperil the liberty and prosperity of Americans and/or that of America's international partners. The House is not a college debating society.

In fact every clip showing a Dem verbally attack President Bush was immediately followed by a direct rebuke from the presiding president of the house that day.
SC Dem rep Clyburn asked for an apology right after the speech, Wilson chose to contact the WH behind closed doors. When his offense was not only to the Pres, but the congress and the people.
If he was really sorry he'd say it. He isn't, he went on FOX the next day bragging. More proof of republican classlessness.

However, consistency in the enforcement of same should also be the case, which brings me back to the point that you have not as yet addressed: why wasn't Pete Stark, a democrat, treated in the same manner as Joe Wilson? Pete Stark called Bush a liar in the well of Congress. He did not go through the process of admonishment that Joe Wilson did.

The attacks on former Pres Bush were addressed on the floor immediately by the presiding House Presidents. Any further admonishments would not have been necessary considering the fact that those members were publicly rebuked at the time.
Wilson however claims to have been remorseful, yet went on the most partisan of FOX News' shows to brag about his offense. I find that to be nearly as offensive as his outburst. Speaking out of both side of his neck defending what he's "sorry" for.

Basically what you're asking is why didn't the Republican house speak out against Pete Stark for disrespecting the former Pres. Firstly, and most importantly the Pres was not present at the time. That's the key difference here, those speaking out against the policies of the Bush or Obama administrations have that right even if it is arguably a low blow. To disrupt a speech being given by the President on nat TV on the floor is reprehensible.

By your reasoning, telling the Prez 'you lie' to his face in public is worse than 'you're a liar' behind his back in the well of Congress. Both say the same thing -- punish one equally to the other, or not at all.

You're right, the rules are related specifically to disrespecting the President to his face.
I liken it to how the protesters brought loaded weapons to the Presidents speeches. The laws in the states are one thing, but had those nuts entered within a certain perimeter of the President, those State laws would have been totally inconsequential.
I also don't think (not sure) that the Democrats were in power when Stark spoke out, thus leaving the discretion to the R's in that instance.

Newport, that may be the case, but still the remarks, whether in person or safely away from earshot of the prez, should have been equally condemned by the dems with the same punishment exacted. They may have followed the letter of the law, but not the spirit of it, which was to discourage behavior of that type in the first place.
Dem-controlled or not, the indignation they expressed over Wilson is the same indignation that should have been expressed over Stark with the same consequences.
