12 yr old with autism plays piano by ear - MJ's BAD

I am a musical prodigy, but I am not autistic. Though my little nephew was recently diagnosed with autism, it is a difficult thing to deal with, but I love him to bits. It really saddens me to see that so many people are being so ignorant and disrespectful towards those with Autism when they have absolutely no idea what is like.

Once I actually smashed someones hands for telling me that my autistic nephew was "a retard that should be put down". Still to this day that person makes me feel sick.

Autistic people are two sets of people it would seem. Not so savy on the outside... but very aware and complete geniuses on the inside. Autistic people are quite remarkable and fascinating. Most people see them as stupid.. when in reality many autistic people have far superior IQ than the majority of 'Normal' people. And the person within the person with Autism is actually aware and offended at the way they are looked at, but some just have no control over their body to show it.

He has talent! if he isn't taking lessons, DO IT! i can also play by ear, and i might be taking lessons soon. TRUST ME. further his talent and he could become big. he's got the basics down. just teach him how to read music and he'll be big in not time!

I am autistic as well. I taught myself twinkle twinkle little star when I was 6 years old. I have only learnt to read music this year and it is still very difficult for me to do. I still prefer to play by ear (although fingers are better... sorry bad joke...). Now I mostly play songs from musicals.

I learned piano to a fairly high level quickly with no lessons here too. I have Asperger's syndrome.

@kiikasi me too! im 24 and I have aspergers and I wasnt diagned till a few months ago, I play piano and dont understand theory either, I also compose my own music you should join my page on facebook its called autistic musicians and press like and feel free to share your music too! @souljaboiification seems quite a lot of autistics have good ears for music! I myself have played for 12 years (starting when I was 6) and have learnt pretty much everything from listening except what I had to do for my grade exams and even now I'm rubbish at sight-reading, and I'm always experimenting with ideas and writing my own material. Music is what gets me through life's little struggles, and no-one can take my music away.
