I don't remember anything from when I was four so my parents just told me they took me to a speech therapist who told them that I could talk I just didn't want to. :|
My brother has autism and i wish he hadn't had it. I mean I love him but my friends have their own family and sibblings and I can barley hold a convo with him. I love him alot, but it's hard to rest with him violently rocking and talking to himself. I'm not gonna waste my time reading those "Autsim" books and I just wish My mom had a big family. Absolutely right, early diagnosis is key. After that its all about getting fast and effective treatment. With current costs of healthcare and insurance companies unwilling to pay for treatment at times, I could see finding proper affordable treatment very difficult for parents. If thats the case for anyone I suggest a company called rethink autism. They have a wide variety of therapy videos online that really portray effective forms of therapy. Check it out.
From what I understand an early diagnosis is supremely important for kids with autism and along with this, early treatment. This new website called rethink autism has done great things in the arena of effective autism treatment. I would suggest it for any parent who has questions or concerns about their kids.

The school system tried to put my PDD son in an intensive class. We fought against it. He was then moved into a moderate classroom setting with students who exhibited more of his behaviors. We won :) He is now going to first and will be tested for gifted in second grade. Here is my point. DO NOT hand your child over to the state, and simply walk away without asking whether or not it is appropriate for him. I'm Autistic ,I have my own world and have no desire to have friends even if I have the desire , it's difficult for me to establish friendship because of my poor communication skills .
I greatly enjoy spending time alone , I have no desire to make "friends" with the so called "normal" crowd. And to them we are weird and not normal when they all seem to be like Bees in a hive.
I sometimes forget my son has autism, and then when I bring him to play with other boys, it's so obvious that he does. Today was such a hard day and I cried for hours. I can't take my son out to eat because he can't stand the high chair. He acts out in public when we are in an unfamiliar place. People stare at us and I'm sure they are judging my parenting skills. At home he is very well behaved. I pray that the therapy he is getting will make an impact.
I know how you feel. I got to a point where I didn't want to take my son out anymore because I couldn't handle the stress of him acting out and causing a scene.. He is 6 now and I am able to take him out for dinner, to movies and even shopping. I think he just adjusted to outside stimulation with age.

I had a bad childhood. I've seen studies that implicate that premature babies have a higher chance of becoming autistic. I've always wondered about this because I had a very low birth weight and I also had many of the same symptoms. I got teased a lot in school, so I don't know where the teasing ended and the autistic symptoms started, but suffice to say that I don't know which is which. I still have trouble with people, but I like social settings.

My little brother is autistic. He's 12, and he basically runs around the house like a maniac. He shits in a diaper, and only communicates by babbling nonsensical sounds or screaming. He understands simple commands, but does not talk, and only seems to listen to us once in a while. We cannot take him out in public or do family things with him because he gets uncontrollable. So yeah, autism fucking sucks.

I think Autistic children are beautiful and each one are gifted in their own little way. :)
People should be aware of things like that and not look down upon them because they can grow up to be successful as well.

The survey testing for this looked at 12 children and was funded by the childrens lawyers - it was not reliable science, on the other hand vaccines have practically wiped out many deadly diseases 100 years ago 1000's of children diesd every year of some illnesses that have now been completly irradicated, if people stopped vaccinating they would return and your child would be a million times more likely to catch a fatal disease than get autism from vaccines!

I sometimes forget my son has autism, and then when I bring him to play with other boys, it's so obvious that he does. Today was such a hard day and I cried for hours. I can't take my son out to eat because he can't stand the high chair. He acts out in public when we are in an unfamiliar place. People stare at us and I'm sure they are judging my parenting skills. At home he is very well behaved. I pray that the therapy he is getting will make an impact.

I know how you feel. I got to a point where I didn't want to take my son out anymore because I couldn't handle the stress of him acting out and causing a scene.. He is 6 now and I am able to take him out for dinner, to movies and even shopping. I think he just adjusted to outside stimulation with age.

No sunshine might be a contributing factor, but someone living in a world of patterns would say that according to that theory, if a kid stayed outside all day for the first two years of life he won't get autism. Well, my mom worked outside and I was out in Colorado (more sunny days than San Diego) with for for 3 hours a day and I have HFAso there must be other things as well? I had a bad childhood. I've seen studies that implicate that premature babies have a higher chance of becoming autistic. I've always wondered about this because I had a very low birth weight and I also had many of the same symptoms. I got teased a lot in school, so I don't know where the teasing ended and the autistic symptoms started, but suffice to say that I don't know which is which. I still have trouble with people, but I like social settings.

My little brother is autistic. He's 12, and he basically runs around the house like a maniac. He shits in a diaper, and only communicates by babbling nonsensical sounds or screaming. He understands simple commands, but does not talk, and only seems to listen to us once in a while. We cannot take him out in public or do family things with him because he gets uncontrollable. So yeah, autism fucking sucks.

My son has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. I designed Awareness Cards to hand out to others whether in public or to classmates. They have been invaluable!
Our son's Speech and Language Therapy is no longer covered under our Medical Insurance so the money that I make from my sales goes to paying for his Therapy.
