  • Holy crap, this looks amazing. Problem is, Apple II games need to be displayed on an original green screen monitor. It just looks wrong with colours.

  • Landing the plane in WoF... was akin to landing the plane on the NES version of "Top Gun"... lol

  • Ah, yes my brother, father, and I spent hours upon hours playing this game. I found an emulator on the net for this game.

  • Thanks for the memories - my favorite game on my IIc. But I only had green and black screen, so its a little different in colour! Can I get this as a mame rom, I wonder?

  • This was my favorite game on my old c 64...

  • This game rocked, I use to play it on a IIgs. This game and Tetris. Maybe Arkanoid, or a little Dark Castle. Landing on the Carrier was a bitch.

  • I played this on my Apple II GS when I was a kid. If you set the GS to fast then I would turn that Hellcat into a jet fighter. haha

  • Faster and uglier than c64 version

  • I loved playing this game all day and all night - on my Apple IIe clone, a Franklin 500 - couldn't in 1985 afford a IIe. The coolest part was the camera zoom technology. One of the best games around at that time.

  • Oh my this is terrible!!! AMIGA RULES!!!

  • @dagbli

Yeah, stick it to a computer made in 1977....

  • I cannot find any place to download this for my mac! I loved this game!!!

  • Now we have Il-2 1946.

  • I loved this game. I don't think I got any farther than sinking the aircraft carrier. Was there an end to this game?

  • mac gaming hasn't progressed much since

  • Rofl QFT

  • @caesiume This isn't a Mac. This is an Apple II. Same company but entirely different platforms.

  • Holy EFF!!! I loved this game!!

    OMG,I need an Apple again.

  • Did anyone learn how to land this thing? I got it right about once or twice in hundred takes.

  • Yeah, I finally found the trick for landing. It did take a while to figure out.

This game was awesome. I have fond memories of starting at Midshipman 1 and playing the whole day until I started looping the Captain levels over and over again. Fun times.

  • who knows if / where this is downloadable for play?

  • send me an email.

  • Holy Crap! I spent so many hours playing this thing. Gunning down the tiny soldiers was the best! plik!plik!Plik!

  • I remeber playing this when I was 13 back in 1997, yes, I mean 1997. I remember the background on the version I played was blue, because I was playing it on an Apple IIe with afaulty monitor.

  • I loved that game back when i was a tod, kinda hard though after a while.

  • This is one of my favorite games of all time.

  • I remember playing this game a lot! Wow, what memories. I remember there was a glitch that let you get 30 of rockets or torpedoes. (Something about scrolling thru the list of weapons on the carrier and then suddenly reversing direction and clicking.)

  • Definitely agree about the Apple II version being superior for gameplay (I've tried the Amiga and PC-Windows "enhanced" ports). Still one of my all-time favorite games, it was like a hybrid flight simulator and arcade game.

20 years ago I discovered a glitch in the Apple version that gets you unlimited planes (involves crashing your last plane on the deck of a sinking enemy ship).

Did you know an Apple IIGS WoF port almost came out from Matt Crysdale and Robin Kar (the Alien Mind guys!).

  • Check my amiga 500 version of this. MUCH better graphics, and im playing with a Xbox 360 controller ;)

  • I played it on my Apple //c. How far did you guys get on Captain level?

  • I couldn't agree more. This video brought back a flood of memories!
