i've seen billy elliot many times in london, but never on broadway... i've been watching clips of the 3 original broadway billys loads recently and i think out of trent, david, and kiril, david is definitely my favourite! obviously i can't say for certain cuz i've not seen any of them live or in a full show, but based on these clips, david's portrayal of billy is just spot on in my opinion.

@kerryellis511 I think for shows like Hairspray, Billy and Hair, there is a deeper meaning that is clearly understood on both sides of the pond. For Billy...I think the main point is for us about living dreams and never giving up. .I am sure you get from Hair the whole Peace, love, freedom thing and Hairspray the racism. Just b/c we may not fully understand the history, I think there is a deeper more imporant meaning to take away then the history.

I dont think you can really say one is a "better Billy" than the other. It depends on what you see the character of Billy as being. Some of the boys are technically better dancers than others. Some might be better actors or singers than others. But overall I dont think you can say which Billy is the best without it being your personal opinion. David is brilliant though, no doubt about that. Dancing is his strong point but can also sing and act his socks off! I hope he is around for awhile yet.

David Alvarez is the one that has been extensively reviewed by the critcis, and all the reviews are rave. I've read at least two reviews, one from the NY Times and another from Pointe Magazine saying that his Billy is the most appealing (or something like like) of them all.

Thanks 4 the response! My family visited NYC just after "Billy" opened, and were completely blown away my the incredible performance given by David Alvarez. It's seems 2 me from the reviews I've read since seeing Billy that David has a broader appeal..others I've spoken 2 say they preferred Trent's acting 2 his dancing n vice versa 4 Kiril. From what I've heard, all 3 Billy's r amazing (n there understudies don't do a bad job either) n I 4c a Tony Award 4 Best Actor divided between these 3 guys

i loved seeing david as billy. my favorite piece throughout the show was the angry dance. i remember going backstage with one of the members of the chorus group thing and he said that david wasn't the best tap dancer but him and kiril were the best ballet players out of the three of them.
