technique aside, the fact that this lock opens up anyway is more than enough proof that it's a good choice for somebody looking for a good place to start. I also recommend master no. 3's, as these are both easy to find in stores and simple beginner picks. To take it to the next level I recommend something with security pins, like an American 1105, as these aren't too hard to find either.
How about the Abus Diskus? While this copies that look it has the same cheezy padlock Master key. The Abus has that angled pin crap like the Medeco locks. //

Wasn das für ne Pfeife, hat kene Ahnung wie man ein Schloss öffnet.
Erstmal geht soetwas absolut Gewaltfrei und nicht so hastig und gewaltsam wie da.
Es ist eig nichts dabei, wenn man mit dem Schloss geübt hat.
Der letzte lockpick ist ein Extracktor, der nicht zum Schlossöffnen gedacht ist,
sondern um abgebrochene Schlüssel zu entfernen.
Der hat echt kein Plan von senem Set :D

Abus does not use a rotating bottom pin sidebar
mechanism,It uses mushroom pins.
