There is one more thing i do not understand when the rohirrim arrive, when theoden says make save this city how have they won? There are still half the orcs within the city not to mention the olog-hai still left in the fields who could easily take down 10 riders or more. or maybe they already entered the city itself. even if the riders cut diwn the witch king's flank of orcs the rest in the fields would fire them with arrows, also how would they fight in the already crowded streets with horses?

One thing Tolkien didnt think about while writing the story is,that Mordor could easily bypass the Minas Tirith all together and burn down the rest of the world while all these soldiers/people where hiding in that city.It would be far more deadly strategy than to use goblin wave attacks against such a powerful fortress.There was nothing standing between that evil orc army and rest of the country, its not like Minas Tirith stood in a middle of only passage to the west!

The thing that annoyed me always about these battles was that there was never a stalemate scene; either man was getting it's ass handed to them or the orcs were getting raped. I just wanted to see an exchange of death in one scene instead of "Omg we're all gonna die!!!!"

However, as soon as the gates were breached gondor lost a lot of troops and by the the time rohan arrived I believed less than 2000 at most remanined.

@ThomasDelPiero Theoretically The surrounding Orcs would have removed the dead Orcs. In reality they are not seen for the convenience of the non extended Version. Because the Battering ram is only seen in the Extended Version when the Orcs are being slaughtered. So it would not make sense if a huge pile of Orcs lay there would it?

Okay, This is my favorite part of the entire movie. I mean, there's this whole "Ring" thing, but then there's 4:55 where all the Orcs are charging the gate, and if you look, there's one orc charging heroically at a small door next to the huge gate. Wonderful. What's better is that at 6:19, the door is open. Elegance. One Orc made it through the walls into Minas Tirith.

Well about 10,000 gondorians vs about 200,000 Morranon orcs , mordor Uruk-hai plus 500 or more Easterlings , 200 trolls and 500 wargs. 9000 gondorians died, you would expect that. even when 6000 rohirrim arrive they still have to fight more than half the orcs who haven't entered the city. And now 20 Mumakil and 500 haradrim from harad. and maybe some trolls and easterlings who also haven't entered yet. Both gondor and rohan both lost 90% of their army, This was an epic battle.
