I had forgotten the greatness of this song from my childhood. Brought back so many memories of the trip my folks took my little brother and I on when I was 13, to as many Battlefields as we could fit in on our way from Texas, through Louisianna, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. I was a student of the War of Northern Aggression back then. This trip gave me a true love and appreciation of Dixie. Thank you for putting this together....God Bless Dixie!! God Bless Texas!
These are also some things Im in love with. Now tell me that America isnt a great country. Country is something that comes from the heart and if you dont know what Im sayin then youll never understand. Yes, the lone star state is also one of my favs., of so many great places. Id like to thank ya very much for postin`.
@dandebonaire. I hear ya loud and clear. Im also in a way different place. Each time I listen to this song I sit here with tears in my eyes. Its called home sick. Yes, if thats the way of life that your used to livin, it does get quite touchy when yer listening to this kind of music. But theres always a way back and if its just on vacation. Theres nothing that would ever part me from the things I grew up with. Keep faith and pride and leave everythang else behind. Take care guy.
@20rich02 I´ll be goin back to Texas and Im planing to stay with my father till the end of his days. I lived in Texas before and I really love that place from the bottom of my heart. This song could be the greatest southern song ever written....I'm deep southern Ga, and this song represents everyone I know and have ever been around. Atlanta is NOT Ga. Its a whole differnt world and DOES NOT represent what Ga is all about, I promise u that!!!!!
i wanna know who thinks this is racist! Where in this song does it say that whites, or any other race for that matter, are superior to any other race. The definition of racism, according to websters dictionary is "a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race" where in this song is one race saying its superior to another?!?
Dang I love this song. I'm a 7th generation Texan and might proud of Dixie. This is a song about heritage, not hate. I'm having a hard time understanding how anyone finds this song racist. It just makes me sad to see all those beautiful images and then to consider it all covered in oil.

That song is special to me. My grandfather played it over and over when I was little so that I could sing it to him. It makes me tear up every time I hear it.

If you spent much time in Pasco county where the Bellamys live you know they were singin about that special place.
