What amazing reception from so far away. I would have loved to have gotten into TV Dxing, but now with it all going digital I guess it is a dead hooby now :(
No. Not dead, rather reborn and transformed (okay, perhaps not for the better). Digital TV signals are affected by propagation just like analog. The trick is that any digital station has to dominate it's channel if one is to identify or see it at all. One side benefit is that DXers in developed countries, with the local analogs off the air, will have clear channels on which to DX analog stations still on the air in developing countries.
Here in Thailand we can still DX to TV from Burma, Cambodia, Laos. In Thailand we have HDTV (HighDef TV) already. Vietnam is now digital but still in low quality (LDTV) but they said Vietnam will have HDTV in the coming years
And in Thailand whole country we have about 10 DXers! But only 3 show up on the internet, but not Vietnam. So Vietnameses won't know the Khmer and Burmese TVs if they don't have satellite
E5 stands for 'European System Channel 5' which uses the European Standard frequency for PAL-VHF/UHF unlike the American system (A5) which using different frequency for NTSC-VHF/UHF

Part 2 (part 1 is below):
At 16:30 KTS kuwait shows up! Until 16:50 then time and "CH 5" shows up. 5 minutes later this song.
I got this information from a website.

Here is about testcard!
At 22:00 closedown shows programs of tomorrow and then cool ident! Koran reading follows. Test-card shows up,
At night testcard is only 5 minutes and then switch off transmitter! Testcard is like this but without clock, music and CH 5 (it is beeeep)
Then at 14:30, the blue screen shows up! With no sound (quiet) until 16.29 and then PM5544 with nothing for one minute and then "KTS KUWAIT" shows up
THis is just part 1.

True. Perhaps there is still some room for TV DX'ing, but it will take some more sophisticated equipment from my part of the world (Scandinavia).

Interesting placement of the clock on the PM5544.

Qatar has the same position of the clock

That is a really bad choice of test pattern music. I think the BBC had it right in that department.
gregrudd 4 years ago
Yes but this is a Arabic country so you would expect them to have this type of music.
