  • Jewel good, Garth go away, this is a girl song....R U Homo

  • Beautiful song... And in Jewel's voice I like it even more. Just loved it

  • To say shes sexy would be an understatement!! WOW!!!!!!!!

  • Thamk-you Ian Tyson from Vancouver, what a song, lyrics are amazing! These two did a tremendous job.

  • It's nice to know that I was such an inspiration.

  • Ty Murray is a lucky man............

  • I DVR'd this just had to search for it on here, thanks for posting =)

  • Pretty cool that Garth Brooks would entertain our troops with Jewel.

    That steel player is spot-on.

  • Pretty cool that Garth Brooks would entertain our troops with Jewel.

  • Ah man Jewel, ah man, that's just beautiful. Great violin and steel guitar work too. Damn!

  • sweet girl but she does`t put her soul into the song like the best singers

  • She is so beautiful!

  • Her singing this song makes me want to vomit !!!!!

  • @ernlay

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, even if it's as idiotic as yours.

  • @jmarsh22 Thank you so much !!

  • I love this song and Jewel. As I watch and listen to this performance I can't help but be awestruck by the fact that she performs with what god gave her. Not a lot of people make it as far as she has with that sort of integrity.

  • @sbattig thats a really nice comment :)

  • When was this? I thought Jewel was very new to country music.

  • @TheKev1960 Around 2000-2001, I see some of her bandmates of the This way album era, so it might be around those years.

  • @lopert Thanks bud. She is nice. Glad I discovered her.

  • Geez...that wasn't pre-planned or anything, was it? Not a great version of this song, either, by the way.

  • What a voice, beauty!

  • Her "little girl " voice is what made her the best in my opinion! She can be cute, fun sexy, beautiful and so much more in just one song. She is someone I wouldn't mind my children looking up to, rather than girls like Britany or Lady Caca.

  • her voice is so sexy, she is gorgeous and a total package.

  • She's okay but I'm not a fan of adult females with little girl voices.Which is exactly what she is.

  • @alan4sure Huh? She is outstanding. Better than listening to someone like Janis Joplin with a drugged-out voice. Just my opinion..........

  • Garth Is The Best Can't Wait Till He Fully Comes Out Of Retirement.

  • oh it was perfect right up to the part where garth starting singing.

  • I remember the night this came on, I was so thrilled she was his guest. She actually did "Standing Still" first though. Wish I still had it on tape . . . each of those three shows Garth did at that time felt magical, but she was my favorite guest singer he had of all three, and I'd liked her for a long time anyway, just never dreamed I'd see them on the stage together. Thanks for posting.

  • @YankHoe your very welcome, indeed Jewel is an inspiration and a true everyday angel.

  • @YankHoe I too remember the night it was on and I have been looking for it since and only found it tonight! She sings that song so heartfelt - you would believe it was about her :)

  • @YankHoe i farted

  • Jewel's version is not Judy Collins' or Suzy Boggus', but it is still very interesting and very Jewel

  • She does this up pretty.Plus it's very fitting, since she is married to a rodeo man.

  • similar to Sherrie Austin if you can remeber that beautyful voice.

  • Oh goodness, Jewel is so off-key so often in this song. Frankly, I always thought she was better than this. :(

  • @devonvanna- if you watch all the diffrent versions they have their owne which make them unique .This is 2nd best only to Suzy Bogguss's version.

  • @devonvanna I don't even know if I should respond to that post; however, i have to....when you can sing better than Jewel, go get a recording contract. You know the old saying, "Those who can, do.....those who can't, criticize"

  • @mojorising0071950 Know what? I happen to like and admire Jewel? That said, my ear is sophisticated and I stand by my comment that on this one she is way off key far too often. You know, not every performance is perfect--we all know that. And honest criticism should not be met with a childish retort. Simply put, I'd have expected better of her...And from you too for that matter.

  • @devonvanna Let's see....first of all you are entitled to your opinion, but that is all it is..you make the comment that you have a "sophisticated ear" so I assume you have had professional musical training, right? Try to utilize your training for something more productive than criticizing. As for the "childish retort"...like you, I was expressing a personal opinion, your "honest criticism" was merely met with an honest response. You shouldn't have expectations of people you don't know.

  • @mojorising0071950 you come across as one of those cretins who just have to have the last word. Here is your chance to prove me wrong.

  • @devonvanna Looks like your post was more along the lines of having the last word yourself. When you resort to name calling it is a substitute for real intellectual debate, or for having an intelligent or valid response to make. Post what you want, it is irrelevant to me, remember it is a free country and I have every right to express my opinion. You must be a Republican since you obviously feel challenged by any statement which does not agree with your myopic perspective.

  • @mojorising0071950 BTW, far too much space has already been wasted for this inane correspondence so i will take the initiative to end it here. These posts are supposed to be in reference to music and we have strayed way out in left field so lets just call it a day.

  • @mojorising0071950 Cannot vote yet; only sixteen, as the song goes. And, I win. Teehee.

  • I knew if I looked I could find Jewel singing this great song by Ian Tyson it fits her well.

  • Garth had a a lot of great stuff and seems he'd be a cool dude in person. Jewel reminds me a lot of Kelly Clarkson, in that she can sing pop or country and sound amazing doing either one.

  • I am no Garth fan, everyone has their own taste in music. Just because I don't appreciate his performing does not mean that I should bash him. Jewel is fabulous.

  • hey for all you people that bash garth brooks and jewel i sure don't see you up there singing or making millions.

  • This is an Ian Tyson song (of Ian & Sylvia way back in the 60s), Judy Collins and Suzy Boggess covered. Suzy does it proud and so does Jewel. It is one of my favorites to sing too.

  • Still, no one can do this one better that Suzy...but I love Jewel. Maybe Patty, but it's a Suzy song.

Garth is like Taylor today, no real voice. Garth had two great albums with a B voice, but lyrics and the city cowboy movement was going in full force..Taylor doing it with teens..least Garth was country..for awhile.

  • I am not a huge Jewell fan, but she is lovely. And you have to love anyone who does this for the troops.

  • Ian Tyson's masterpiece

  • Lookin' for his fawn. ~cg

  • i outa whup your ass

  • bland and no soul from these 2 products of the music industry. Judy Collins did it better. Someone called Garth the antiHank, I forget who, but I agree.

  • Most real music fans already can 'hear' with their ears that Jewel is one of the best musically talented singers in the World. If its rubbish you want to write negative comments about please google jessica simpleton or spear britney!

  • No question. Her voice is definitely one of the best in the music business. Almost reminds me of a young Stevie Nicks.

  • i agree.. if u dont like this type of music y listen to it to start with??

  • Garth REALLY detracts from Jewel's performance here. He's singing the bridge, which is normally the strongest part of this song, with virtually no feeling, emotion or strength. Compared to her parts, it's almost embarrasing. Hopefully, he was tired or exhausted, but I know he could've done much better.

  • you really mustnt like country if ur picking o Garth and Jewel.. they both sing with passion and that outs meaning into every lyric that they sing.. i think that they make a wonderful couple..

  • I apologize -- it wasn't my intent to pick on either. I have always loved Jewel, and tho Garth is not my cup of tea, I think he's an extremely talented and gifted performer -- they both are. I just feel he could've sang this with a lot more energy. I do like a wide breadth of country music, from way back when to today. Again, no disrespect toward either Garth or Jewel, just my opinion about his part in this performance. If they've got other duets, I'd love to hear them also.

  • i do understand that everyone has there opinion on music but i am a strong believer in the songs that he sings and writes.. i do also apologize..

  • shut up or ill whup your ass

  • Garth isn't singing for you! He is singing for the American service members on board that ship! Apart from the journey he had to take just to get there, he probably spent as much time before the performance meeting and greeting the sailors, as he did setting up. And maybe his perfomance was lackluster to you, but compared to the usual unknowns and B list celebs (J. Simpson), Garh on a bad day is still much appreciated by the sailors so far from home.

  • Sorry, I left out a few words. Usually, the people they get to "perform" for the troops overseas are people just tarting their careers and stupid people like Jessica Simpson. So compared to that, hearing even an out of tune Garth is light years better than the usual bad entertainment that the USO gives these days.

  • I was liking it until Garth chimed in. Not that he isn't great, I just would love to hear Jewel do it solo.

  • poor simmadana......It is NOT COOL to admit you don't know Judy Collins. You even seem PROUD of your ignorance, you poor sad young naive thing, you. google her - educate yourself - it won't hurt, and you'll hear a bit of history.

  • you guys keep on saying that Jewel relies on her "cuteness"

That's totally not true cause she has an amazing voice!

    She's cute....AND has a unique voice

    I mean...come on you guys...she amazing!

  • Jewel oozes sex appeal. Her voice is spectalur and she is by far one of the greatest song writers of our times. I absolutely LOVE her and this performance.

  • Um, I have never heard of Judy Collins. I don't think she's as timeless as you believe.

  • Just because you've never heard of her doesn't mean she isn't timeless. It just means you haven't heard of her. Timeless means she's still relevant.

BTW, I also love Jewel and think she has incredible talent, so don't think I'm dissing her. And I think she'll be relevant in 40 years, or as long as real music is appreciated anyway

  • OMG OMG OMG I LOVE THIS!! & garth is my hubby!! lol

  • Absolutely. How cool is this. But then again im biased cause i think he is great and im pleased to say i have seen him 3 times in concert... Birmingham UK, Sheffield UK and Belfast Ireland

  • Actually the best version of this song is done by Judy Collins. Garth begins to mention it but stops. Artist's ego stuff, I guess. Jewel has to rely on her cuteness because her voice lacks the conviction and timre of Judy Collins. Just listen to Judy Collins belt this out.

What you hear is desire. And a tip of the hat to Ian & Sylvia.

  • I haven't heard Judy Collins version, maybe it is better. But if you honestly think Jewel doesn't have a good voice, you're a moron. She has plenty of other videos on youtube, I suggest you give them a try. I will concede that Jewel sings her own songs better than those written by others. But there are some truly awesome accoustic performances by Jewel on youtube.

  • Listen to the Judy Collins 1969 version on You Tube.

    It's Judy Collins'lust vs Jewel's "cuteness."

Flavor of the month?- let's see where she'll be in 40 years- Read the comments on Judy Collins'voice by the sailor who played it on the osciliscope- Sorry you missed the sixties- they were great-You live in a very boring time-All homogenized-

P.S.Try some Joan Baez too-"Tears of Rage" will do nicely- these are WOMEN!! Not cutesy chilluns-

  • I definitely agree with you. Nothing compares to Jewel when it comes to singing.

  • AWeSOME! Nobody could sing it better. Give Garth

Brooks credit, he picked the best. I'd love to get

the original series of this. Thanks.
