  • The day FGW retire the 125 is the day a tear runs down my cheek...

  • What a load of wank. Were's da tonez?

  • Love it! What's the noise at 0:28?

  • @FrontierAstro07 It's the starter motor cranking the engine up.

  • @macthewesty start motor pinions engaging

  • @FrontierAstro07 "TURBO" start

  • what is the differance between a valenta and a mtu?

  • @terry987654 The Valenta was 30 years old, a V12 with one BIG turbo and the MTU engine is no more than 5 years old in the HST's, V16 with I think 8 small turbos. They are a lot more efficient and quieter but don't have the same appeal as the Valenta engine to most enthusiasts...

  • @macthewesty I'll definitely second that! RIP Valenta.

  • All but a distant memory now...... RIP Paxman Valenta...

  • @paxmannut go look at the Valenta sunset;Mother of all starts

  • They're magnificent V12s.

  • that square dance they do !! lol

  • ★★★★★

  • great moves by the redhead hopin she wont get noticed but looking help

  • @bonzo874 There's more male/female body language cues going on here than count. its really entertaining.

  • cool, I've been there!

  • That girl didnt like the smell of the clag (42seconds)

  • no, she's just shat and suprised even herself.

  • that man at the end is my dad (the one that steps out of the engine cab!)

  • lol at 7 seconds. Made the camera man jump.

  • Hahahaha, you have so right. :D

  • Well the 16V4000 cannot be heard to full effectin stations - noise limits - smoke limits ah and I almost said smell limits. Try winding the window down on Hemerdon - Volcano is the best descripion.

  • There's not a problem with 16V4000

  • other than having no charisma?

  • I must admit, hearing an MTU in the flesh, they don't sound too bad but sorry the Valenta wins it hands down, the presence of the Valenta engine just cannot be matched.

  • This video has historical significance now as all FGW's HST powercar fleet is MTU engined now.

  • i love the sounds of those engines. if i had the money i would by one, put it in my garden and start it up 24/4. that would just be cool

  • @DarkRage960 itd cheer yr neighbours up no end !

  • another comment...well i loved how the people suddenly looked up as it woke up. if theres one thing i could love the sound of more than the scream its the start up!

  • ive seen voyagers clag more than that. ill admit that some of the valentas needed replacing but ones like this...i dont think so. top video!!! 5/5

  • thts awsome those two women were like wtf??!!

  • woooooooooooow the beast sneezed bless you. eat hart out mtpoo

  • I think when they were introduced they had to be started seperately but now I believe they can start both engines from either end...

  • ok cheers Mac & happy easter ;-)

  • When they started this power car up would it have started the other one at the other end... or do they have to walk to start the one at the back /??/

  • Think they still have to do them seperately - cabbed many HSTs and never seen a "start other end-up" button anywhere, only a "start up" one

  • I may be a diehard steam fan, but I've got to admit that BR got it just right with the HST. Great success story, and as big a commercial step forward as the Deltics. Pity APT was pulled. If ever there was a case of 'defeat stolen from the jaws of victory' the APT was it!

  • nothing beats the sound of a paxman valenta hst

  • 43 secs - what's the matter girl - Paxman Valenta clag not your style?? Love the book wave!

  • LOL bookwave. silly cow doesnt understand the joys of a clagging screaming paxman valenta. I would be in my element, and Im female!

  • What a beast! Nothing beast a good old Valenta

  • Music to my ears!

  • That sounds soooooo nice.....

  • man would i love to see one of these beauties running around on Amtrak's Northeast Corridor or anywhere on Amtrak's lines.

  • I'd love to see these on the Norwich-London line along with the current 82s/90s.

  • Is it me or has the comments system gone a bit awol? I got an email yesterday saying that macthewesty had replied to my comment, but I can`t see the reply!

  • I did reply but I don't where it went! I thought the fire was in 43189 at OOC...

  • I wonder if it`s that powercar that had the exhaust fire at Old Oak Common.

  • Whats the sound at 7 seconds?

  • One of the horns... He knocked the horn switch as he leant over the desk!

  • You cant beat a waking sound of a valenta!!

MTU well i dunno wot 2 say

  • sure, MTU's sound alright, but i'm deffinatly going to miss the paxman's when they vanish compleatly off the GWR

  • haha those women were scared

  • That's the sound of him activating the control desk. Was this an unrefurbished HST (i.e. not the one with the MTU engine)?

  • Yes this is 43012 with the Paxman Valenta engine and not MTU though I would of thought the engine had just been overhauled considering the lack of exhaust on tick over...

  • quite new AWS equipment
