  • both pedals are the best out there, no comparison needed anymore, just money... to buy both. fuck

  • stop being a pussy put them both on!

  • Woolly Mammoth sounds great in every demo..but the price, ouch

  • Zvex should release a Vexter Woolly Mammoth.

  • Dude I love your videos, but I don't even own a fuzz factory and I know that if you put the "stab" knob all the way up the oscillations go away.

  • "Obviously, you could go have a sandwich and just let that thing go" lol! so true!

  • The feedback is oscillation, similar to when a tape delay has too much feedback, so it could be prevented by playing with the gate and compressor knobs or by adding a noise reducer into the mix. Nice demo. The fuzz factory is nice for adding some highs to lower toned distortion. (it plays nice with the big muff).

  • Fuzz factory doesn't oscillate all the time as described at 2:30. You must "play" with all the knobs to find a "not oscillating" setting :)

  • @aorfix you must not know GearMannDude so well!!!

  • @monkeyxx No dude, GearMannDude is the one who not know the fuzz factory ;) But he rocks anyway!!!

  • Where'd you get that killer white coily man?

  • @jighead81 'tis a bullet cable.

  • would its still have feedback for the vexter with humbuckers?

  • you have to be Jack Black, I know this, it must be

  • hey can you do the fuzz factory vs the dunlop germanium fuzz face?

  • I really want a wooly mammoth but mannn the price, are there other any pedals that can match the sounds? and also how it is "friendlier" haha

  • @MrJacobFennell simple and easy to make my friend. Google it.

  • cmon gearmanndude that noise from the fuzz factory comes from the stab knob!, nice comparison tho

  • i have the fuzz factory , for so far.. it's the dirtiest pedal ever :d

  • this just screams Till I Get My Way.

  • @dystopicduality how do you do that then? I'm interested.

  • @newbking001

    Fuckin lol'd

  • OMG THIS IS THE PEDAL CHRIS WOLSTENHOLME USES. OMG.

  • @newbking001 Matt Bellamy uses it too, Plug in baby is made by this pedal.

  • @Poiuyp42 No, Chris uses the Woolly Mammoth, Matt uses the Fuzz Factory. Also, lots of Muse songs use a Fuzz Factory, not just Plug In Baby.

  • @SuperElectric96 It's used on a lot of songs, but also not as many as some believe. Just some solos and riffs here and there. I think Christ might use Fuzz more than Matt.

  • You can build a mammoth for <$20.

  • well, a better choice in my opinion than the cat form muse(?) having the FZFAC-

    Steven Drozd uses it -

    so.

but really who cares anyway. do you? probably not.

this is a fuzzy fuzz though, quite nice (both versions)

and Gearmann is the face when it comes

    to any demoing*

  • @Hankandthetanktops Correction, he is the FOOT of demoing.

  • @ImmortalDestructor - ha! yeah... i guess your right.

  • @Hankandthetanktops steve drozd kicks so much ass

so does the wooly mammoth pedal. shit I might get this to use with my guitar....along with the fuzz factory

  • At 0:55 I thought you were gonna play the Killling In The Name riff

  • would fuzz factory still make that noise if you dont play anything when have a noise gate?

  • @anyday82 of course not. GMD didnt experiment enough. That's just cus it was in one setting. The setting you can get with no background noise are literally endless. You'll never replicate the same fuzz sound with it ever.

  • Hank, is that you??If not ,you sound like him! Anyway , great pedals!!

  • Comment removed

  • A great way to control that fuzz factory is putting a big muff in front of it. I love playing it with the comp dimed, gate at 0 and the tone on my muff almost all the way down. Sweet tones by the way

  • I want the "not so friendly" pedal so I can play plug in baby in pwoper way :D [yes, I'm a muse fan (muser) too]

  • Now turn them both on at the same time and make some noise.

  • is this jack black ? lol

  • i like the wooly mammoth, anything that sounds like it for 100$ or under

  • @Kumoxi

Hey buddy its was just a statement, no need to be like that. :)

  • Ian D'sa from Billy Talent uses the Wolly Mammoth on the intro to "Devil in a Midnight Mass", and also in the breakdown in "Saint Veronika". He uses it not only in the studio, but also on tour.

  • @6stringvillain billy talent sucks

  • @Kumoxi Billy Talent is awesome..

  • Really sad review of both pedals...

If you don't want the Fuzz Factory to give bad sounds use decent Gate and Stab settings... Its one of the most versatile if not the most versatile fuzz pedals out there. The wooly mammoth is designed for bass but sounds equally good on guitar.

  • the fuzz factory is made to give oscilation, but you can turn it off if u want

  • can you try the mxr el grande bass fuzz on a guitar? cause i cant find any vids of it used with a normal guitar

  • The FF is "not so friendly" because it's an oscillating fuzz.

  • Where's the snakeskin?

  • factory for versatility, but mammoth is the thick juicy one

  • i had the fuzz factory awesome pedal. As for the weird sound that happens when your not playing only happens when it's set a certain way. I've never got it to do that sound, i've never got a good sustain either. But it's definitely for the industrial guitarist you can so many cool sounds and noises as well as good bright fuzz. The opposite of my Little Big Muff.

  • the fuzz factory sounds like a vuvuzela when you aren't playing.

  • man I want a woolly mammoth but I don't have the $359 to buy one so I guess I'll make one cause its like around $30 in parts lol

  • word. jack black.

  • MILLER!

  • GMD, if you turn the comp up and the stab about at 12 it will get rid of that annoying buzz.

  • its jack black

  • i dont know..i want mammoth,,but he is very expensive... fuzz factory is good...but sound of the mammoth??..omg..very nice..i dont know..i have got a big muff..the sound is very nice..but i want something more drive...give me some any advice??thx

  • @lukasjochymek get a job, make bank, and BUY THE WOOLY MAMMOTH

  • are you christian slater?

  • the woolly mammoth sounds pretty good. (:

  • obviously you can go have a sandwich and just let that one go..... haha

  • Is there any setting on the factory that doesn't crap out when you're not playing?

  • Yes, you have to turn the stab completely up

  • @butterscotchtele

    yes, i have one and it's stupid easy to set;

    don't listen to this guy.

  • @butterscotchtele or you can set the comp and gate both to about 2:30 and the stab to 3:00. works pretty well whilst keeping a rele nice heavy fuzz tone. this aso gives you all the freedom to play with the drive as much as you like.

  • man, that sounds like jack black!

    get the pick of destiny!

  • Sounds like Christian Slater doing the demo! LOL

  • jhahahaahahaha

  • I think Zvex is way overpriced. You can buy superior boutique pedals for the prices Zvex tries to get you to pay.

In real life/live situations the Fuzz Factory is unusable.

I guess for experimenting and recording it would be cool but for the money my pedal better serve me live because that's when it matters.

  • tons of musicians use the wild settings on the fuzz factory live. the oscillation is ridiculous and allows for some interesting riffing. you just have to think outside the box.

  • what makes the fuzz factory unusable live?

  • Well, I'll clarify. First off the Fuzz Factory doesn't shut up unless you turn it off. Unless you like standing in front of your pedals like a stiff it's really inconvenient. I'm too busy flipping out when I'm playing live to be just standing there like a jerk.

And usable settings involve adjusting all the knobs not just one or two easy turns. It's such a small pedal that even the slightest changes make a huge difference.

    Also....

  • ...Also when I'm in a crazy rage I don't feel like getting down on my knees and adjusting my pedal for a minute interrupting the whole show.

Playing live it's all about usability and reliability. Playing live is all about chemistry. How well you blend with your fellow band mates. Yes, even when you solo it matters what everyone else is doing and how they sound.

I prefer being able to make quick adjustments in the dark, even when I'm on stage and things are getting blurry, lol.

  • the fuzz factory just shows how much power it has lol

  • Really solid demo, man. Would have liked to see you explore the pedal settings a bit more, but A/Bing cleverly between the pedals and between the clean sound was very helpful. Nice telecaster, as well. :)

  • haha it sounded like he said he was gonna crush them with his boobs... haha

    that guy is awesome

  • he said boots but what you said is hilarious.

  • GearManDude had the Fuzz Factory on ONE SETTING, and didn't adjust the GATE!!

I have spent 4 days with my Vexter Fuzz Factory, getting different sounds each time!! It can be set to so many sounds it's insane! From vintage overdrive fuzz to Atari 2600!!

  • yeah cos hes doing a comparison with the woolly mammoth... the mammoth doesnt have all the crazy over the top oscillations like the factory - he was trying to get similar sounds for the comparison

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the gate knob will help kill the idle noise. I've been trying to decide between either of these pedals and an analogue man. Unlike most of your videos, this one didn't help. Sorry, you let me down Gearmanndude!

  • @nbrothergtr I used to have a fuzz factory, none of the names on the knobs for the pedals mean anything like what the knobs do, just turn em untill you find a nice (ish) sound, you can get some great sounds out of it though, all the knobs do is controll the occilation.

  • WHY WOULD YOU PUT A BEER ON A 70'S TELE?! and... a miller light to boot... jesus christ.

  • Lol, go have a sandwich... Funny man :)

  • Just throwin out that Matthew Bellamy Uses the Zvex FF live...infact it is actually built into a couple of his guitars.

  • why is it that on every single fuzz factory demo, there has to be something about OMG DOOD FROM MUSE HAS THIS

  • well most people know the brand because of bellamy's endorsement, and he's pretty fucking awesome.

  • who talks like that?

  • i believe he's southern

  • @colashanacogh

    Hey, I resent that statement.

  • well i resent your reply.

  • Cause there fucking awesome?

  • because he is amazing at using it (more so around 2001)

  • lol becuase MAT is so COOL! lol but he does some cool things with the FF

  • @YourHearse matt bellamy

  • @YourHearse cuz dood from muse has awesome tone

  • @FakeFlourescentSkies depends on the song... but its got nothing to do with the fuzz factory

  • Comment removed

  • @YourHearse agreed.

bellamy only ever used the fuzz factory once in the studio

  • @12345l6789 He's used it on Plug In Baby (most notable one), The Groove, Supermassive Black Hole, New Born, Knights Of Cydonia, Citizen Erased,Stockholm Syndrome, Neutron Star Collision, Map of the Problamatique etc. Too many to list so you can't say hes only used it once . He's made it quiet famous on various songs and not only that but also adds it in way more to live songs. Sometimes even songs that don't use it. Point Proven.

  • @Pescado2020 Yeah the studio version of SMBH sounds like just distortion but when he plays live it sounds like he uses a FF.

  • @xHighPotencyx actually the part where the song starts saying "ooooo ooooo oooooooo you set my soul alight " u can clearly hear the fuzz factory

  • @12345l6789 Obviously you don't know very many of their songs.

  • @xHighPotencyx errrrr noo obviously i have. obviously ive been a fan from the beginning. obviously.

  • @YourHearse Muse is the biggest name band who runs one and is overly public about it. Muse does it well, but the effects are a little too over the top and I own the FF.

  • @YourHearse cos Dood from Muse made Hysteria. Say what you like about muse but that song is a fucking beast.

  • @TeddyBearAutopsyUK + 1 on that man. I think most, if not all, of their songs are fucking beasts :D

  • @YourHearse He makes it sound heavy as shit though

  • @YourHearse he rarely even uses it in comparison to his other pedals

  • @YourHearse i agree, the muse Sucks big balls

  • @YourHearse OMGGOOMGOMGOMGG!

MATTHEW BELLAMY FROM MYOOOZE UZES THIS PEDULL ON PLUGG IN BAYBEEE!!1!!1!!HB ;KJSHJNADSAAas

  • @PrestonDowMusic aha that made me laugh

  • @YourHearse because matt does a really cool weird intro in the beginning of the song plug in baby, he has it built into his guitar which is really cool and he can mess with it on the fly

  • I like the Fuzz Factory better. It sounds more sharp.

  • @seanchristiandavid It will cause the woolly mammoth was designed for bass, and sounds abit crappy on guitar.

  • The Woolly wins. Thanks for the demo.

  • two germanium transistors im pretty sure

  • i actually like the mammoth better in terms of tone, but the fuzz factory is really cool with the ocillations and sqelches and such.

  • what leads is that?

  • No, no he doesn't.

  • mate, it doesnt make that sound if you change the settings.

it self oscillates on certain settings.

also, the fuzz factory is used live lots.

    1 star.

  • Also you wanna hear a band that uses fuzz pedals right check out Astroqueen shit is beautiful

  • astroqueen yessss :D also fu manchu, truckfighters, asteroid and i belive some kyuss songs

  • lol thats not even close the woolly mammoth sounds 9 times better how much does the woolly cost?

  • $359

  • shit i was gonna get a FF but i didnt know if u didnt play anything it makes that annoying sound. thanks for the review

  • it doesn't. if you set it in a way not to have that sound, it won't. the thing is super versatile. you can set it dozens of ways for different sounds/behaviors.

  • I think the Mammoth is better if you want to PLAY your guitar and the FF is better if you want to do the oscillation stuff or make noise. (Muse rulz...)

  • Indeed they do.

  • Woolly Mammoth

  • Is this Dale Gribble giving the demo?

  • lol thats better than the jack black comments

  • eu prefiro o mamute!

    I prefer the mammoth!

  • If you turn compression all the way up it shouldn't oscillate

  • but it then cuts the sound. its weird though.

  • lolololol. Do you have any idea how many famous guitarist DO play with the FF? I think you mean if you want to play songs with the same old boring Fuzz Face sound you can't play with the FF. Also, Noise is AWSOME!!!

  • You CAN not-play with the fuzz factory. I hope everybody knows this. To get rid of the noise you use the noise gate or compressor. Or just keep the stability fully cranked. Its simple. Don't misrepresent FF.

  • Where should you stick a noise gate or compressor in the fx chain?

  • it's on the pedal.....

  • i just made a sandwich...

    the mammoth has my vote!

  • they both have their uses... i really wish he would've chained them together. that'd be interesting.

  • yea a combo pedal would be sick

  • i have the fuzz factory, and i love the mammoth but yes for some soloing action, the fuzz factory makes a sexy vibe.

  • I am so getting the Woolly Mammoth... or at least a DIY-clone of it, which is like 300 bucks cheaper...

  • what's the difference between model of the mammoth on this vid and this model - youtube . com / watch?v=oN6iOVIWpMw ?

  • Nothing. Zvex effects are custom handpainted and the painters change the design sometimes.

So the only difference is the painting. (unless Zach changes something time by time)

  • omg the sound is so nice

  • You need to apply more Noise reduction on the Fuzz factory. The Noise knob is used exactly for that purpose. That makes it a lot more "friendly" as you put it.

  • There is no 'noise' knob. Do you mean gate?

  • Yes, sorry about that. I had "Noise Gate" on the brain. In fact, "Gate" is short for "Noise Gate" on the pedal.

  • jack black?

  • dude i was thinkin the same thing

  • Fuzz Factory foi projetado para guitarras... o Mammoth para contrabaixos...

  • I like the Wooly Mammoth better.

  • that depends i have both and i use the F.F. for my guitar, and the WM for the bass cuz it has a "punchier" sound and fat sound the F.F. its more noisy and "fuzzy"(hehe) for a guitar

  • 2:26 Bollocks, turn down the stab control, and it stops.

  • You mean turn UP the stab right?

stab = stability, which means high stability will stop the oscilation

  • Yeah thats right, sorry. I knew that its just logic that lead me to say "turn down"

  • You usa a bass effect on a guitar?

    i'm sorry, i'm dutch i didn't understand the story:P

  • it sounds great on either

  • friendly*

  • "frendly"

    hahahahaha

  • WOLLY MAMMOTH IS BETTER!!!...but dont buy it...its my sound...not urs!

  • hahah i love how on every single one of this guy's videos there is always comments that say

    "DuDe R u TeH jAcK BlAcKz!!11!!?!?!?1"

    haha.

  • HE IS, Jack Black.

  • i agree with orchid haha

  • the fuzz factory sounds more fuzzy

  • you sound like jack black :)

  • LOL @ the curly cord.

    Much <3

  • Mammoth is more "smoth" & the Vexter is more hard rock

  • there is a gate on the fuzz factory...

  • fuzz factory doesnt always emit noise if you are not playing, that's just his setting, what a dumbass!

  • well, matthew bellamy of muse has a fuzz factory built inside his guitars, i.e. plug in baby

    check it out live

  • telecaster + fuzz = tone heaven

  • The oscillation from the Fuzz Factory at 2:34 can definitely be avoided. All knobs have will have an effect on whether or not this sound will be output, the amount and how it sounds, but increasing the level of the gate should stop it. By dialing in more compression you should be able to back off the gate too.

  • I saw another demo where the fuzz factory had (almost random)knob positions that didn't create that noise when a note is not played... also, in defense of the FF, there are MANY extreme tonal variations, based on other youtubes.
