@endingway Actually, this is very simple to play, it's just the way he performs it makes it sound much much more interesting and better.... Performance is a key part in music :)
i dig it. there is a guy in san francisco that plays a santour on fisherman's wharf. he uses finger bows, like curved violin bows. with the combination of strumming and taping the sound is bliss.
you have to feel comfortable with it. start with very low speeds. If you try too hard to play your riz really fast, your not gonna get a smooth sound. good luck!
Thank you so much for the great music. I'm really curious about the tuning though. I'm a hammered dulcimer player trying to learn about the Iranian scales. Most of the Santoor players on YouTube seem to be tuned to a kind of G phrygian, except Farjami, who's using a B natural, which gives it a maqaam kind of sound (or C harmonic minor), to my western ears. Are these tunings interchangable in Iranian music?

practice using wrist for the riz and other than that your fine.
Takanaka001 3 years ago
The riz is wrong. Need to use your wrist more instead of ur arm. Other than that it's a nice piece.

This what i wanted to know as well. How can i improve my riz play? practice? or is there a secret?
NimaSun 3 years ago
just practice a lot, you shouldnt be using ur entire arm but instead just your wrists

You make playing the santoor look easy, and it is played beautifully. "Ba eftighar", as the Persian saying goes, great work!
