  • This was the climax of the Big 80's. But remember, one of the biggest pop hymne and pop band was also born in this year: "Take on me" by a-ha..

  • does anybody know the girl at 2:38?? I fall in love with her :)) Typical 80's hair..

  • Beautiful song...great audience. AWSOME SHOW !!

  • Great song from an average band.

  • This went to No 1 in USA and Canada, but strangely only reached 7 in the UK. It was also Jim Kerr's least favourite Minds song, but is the one they will be remembered most for by the general public! They went a long way since I saw them playing in the Mars Bar pub in Glasgow in the late 70s!!

  • I was fortunate enough to grow up during this time; was the summer of 11th grade for me, and I'll never forget this concert. It was the world's focus and all everyone talked about. The pop music was just pouring out talent back then, throughout the 80's, with the members themselves writing/performing and even producing the songs, making the collaborations that much more special.

  • Remember

  • at least, this is GOOD stuff. In this days, the music that I hear sometimes makes my sad.

  • 5:24...

  • Great drummer ......

  • @graculareligiosa1 I totally agree with you. . . Dont know the guy's name, but I always liked his groove. I watched every second of LiveAid and I still thrill to see and listen to these clips. Guess this Internet thing is good for something after all ! ! !

  • excellent! one of the greatest shows i've ever seen.

  • my 10 year old son love this song

  • Omg the size of that crowd

  • Ah, the Breakfast Club soundtrack! I can't wait til I'm old enough to feel ways about stuff!

  • gigant music! fantastic!

  • classico !!!!

  • I wish I could play guitar and sing, then I would play and sing this on video, upload it to YouTube and send it to my ex-girlfriend :( .

  • *throws fist in the air"

  • I believe that "The Breakfast Club" was The Best Movie of 1985. The thing is, had it been releasted in, like, September, it would have had a greater shot at winning at least 1 OSCAR. This song not only should have been nominated, had it been nominated, it would have won. Too bad movies like "The Breakfast Club" aren't being made in Hollywood; Rest in Peace, John Hughes!

  • NEPOVTORIMI , NEZABRAVIMI, ISTINSKI .........MOGA DA GI SLUSCHAM PO VSYAKO VREME NA DENONOSCHTIETO

  • think, have been 20 in those years:)

  • Simple Mainds best 30 yard

  • This band and this song is amazing after 20 plus years....

  • very day should be a live-aid

  • Great concert I wish I could see them live. One of my best 80's band ever. No SP in USA in 2011. Maybe 2012???

  • awesome...

  • the drummer is kick in like crazy ..awesome bit

  • When you watch these videos nowadays , make the most of it, because there are precious few live bands worth watching now.

  • Wish I was there

  • shame the other drummer didn't turn up.

  • ALL YOU OLD FUCKERS!!! Still a few like myself think this is the best music of our time (evan though we were not born yet, myself 1989) I just want people to know i hate BS garbage we have now and i love the good stuff your were blessed 2 grow up with!!!!

  • Cuantos buenos recuerdos me trae esta canción!!

  • Always remember: The Breakfast Club!

  • Bom demais!!

  • Is Jim ALWAYS smiling, Or is his mouth like that :) ?

  • @roberth1964 It's different, but fine nonetheless. It's live.

  • Anyone that didn't experience the 80's will never understand how awesome it really was.

  • @WayneStandsUp, There speaks someone who missed the sixties and seventies and hasn't noticed ;-)

  • THE SUMMER OF 85.....LISTEN TO THIS THEN LISTEN TO THE CRAP NOW....DONT FORGET...THEN WALK AWAY...BRILLIANT

  • Oh man...the rythm is a notch TOO FAST! :-\

  • my generation's WOODSTOCK

  • @roberth1964 dude...it is live....the music is ad libbed to fit the crowd and moment...catch a clue

  • i think this band is the best of the world

  • Simple Music, Simple Idea

  • BAD-ASS DRUMMER!

  • Brilliant how Jim Kerr pulled this off , with perhaps, the gayest looking clothes ever ! One of the Live Aid highlites, probably his greatest moment ever.......

  • wena wena..locooo

  • @roberth1964 There's two versions of the studio version so that might be why we're not seeing eye to eye lol. The fill is the same in the one I've been listening to. It's just really hard to hear the toms and crashes at the end of fill in the live version.

  • @roberth1964 The drum fill sounds fine to me.

  • @roberth1964 What were the mess ups? I can't see them

  • It's awesome when a singer rocks live as much as in their video.

  • The singer looks like Messi , haha

  • Kick ass drumming :D Great performance!

  • essa banda dos anos 80 demais, podia nunca ter terninado esse tempo, show de bola...

  • I miss the 80's!!!! Best music ever

  • My man, Mel Gaynor...what a fucking beast on the drums!!!!! I love his passion for playing. This is exactly how I think a musician should play live. :-) Great band too, by the way. Cheers to all the Simple Minds' fans! :-)

  • tästä kaikki alkoi ,nyt yhessä 26v simple mainds best,

  • groovey moves Jim....

  • boy that drummer was gettin it lol

  • thumbs up if you like gonna kill the Radio DJ when he ends this song before Drum solo

  • Back when people sounded as good live as they did on the radio

  • @mnthaedwards That's so true

  • @mnthaedwards Better than they sounded on the radio

  • Mel Gaynor is one of rock's great drummers.

No poncy triplets of high hat stuff. Nothing fancy. Just absolute power.

    Bonzo would approve!

  • Only two things YouTube is good for... Silly/cute/funny Cat videos... and Keeping the 80s arena anthem music alive. :)

  • @RichMaxwell um.. this is new wave buddy. but agreed 100% about the "80s music" part

  • @falaqdad15

This is a trillion miles away from new wave, it's 80s stadium rock.

  • @bankruptstate No, it is indeed New Wave. Research it. I did before making that claim.

  • @falaqdad15

Research it? I was around at the time. In the US the term New Wave referred to bands such as Blondie. In the UK New Wave was a musical style originating from the UK Punk era.Real Punk i.e. Sex Pistols, The Damned etc...bands such as The Ruts, Boomtown Rats etc.More musically sophisticated and more palateable to the general public and ultimately more commercial. than Punk.Even The Jam were seen as New Wave. The movement died-off with the rise of Ska/Two-Tone in the UK in 79/80 :)

  • @bankruptstate So, you're from the UK? I had in mind Modern English, The Psychedelic Furs, Blondie, Talking Heads, Thompson Twins, The Fixx, Joe Jackson, The Cars, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, I could go on.

But yeah, you know what you're talking about. I am a huge real punk fan. and Post-Punk (manchester scene) for that matter.

Stadium rock in the US to most US people is associated with Hair Metal.

  • What great music that year had 1985. Love saying that word 1985. Who's gonna remember 2011 or the last 10 years before that in 20 years time? But the 1980's ? an eternity.

  • That was a phenomenal live performance. That's about as close as you can get to studio perfection. The reason why i love the 80's is because they were so much fun and sentimental years.

  • @tinaspanther

Nice post - völlig einverstanden :-))

  • 54 people were forgotten

  • 54 people are wrong in time

  • This event was organized to raise funds for relief of the ongoing Ethiopian famine in 1985. Now 26 years later the food crisis in the horn of Africa where 12.4 million people is suffering and the might of the people of the UK and the US is gone. The mightiest nations in human history who used to lead the rest of the world in situations like this couldn't care less, our pride is broken, the world is really gonna miss us.

  • @dodgesxt Nice comment and oh so sad but true..... wish things had turned out different. The occasion of this concert was a great tragedy, but the fact all were prepared to perform and all those ppl on the world watching and money was raised, it gave me the feeling back than life wasnot that bad.

  • i first heard this song in the movie The Breakfast Club and i was like ? Does this kind of stuff exist..yeah..it at least DID back at the time

  • Awesome!!!

  • 80's definitely rocks!!!

  • @downwithisrael1 Let us not forget things like new kids on the block. Same kind of thing. Assembled by a record company to make money. Is it more so today? Probably. But it was bad back then too. Far to many people look at say the 80's and completely forget how mass produced it was. I for one am a fan of hair metal. But after you get through the 8 or 10 big groups of the day, the rest began to truly all sound the same. And that is in large part due to record companies.

  • Ricordo questo evento musoicale ero un ragazzo di quindicianni...

  • @downwithisrael1 I love 80's music as much as anyone. That said, no offense but the 80's stuff was mass produced just like today. Look at music at the time. By the end of the 80's, pop, rock, country and rap were all going through massive changes. Reason being that all those genres started having artists just blend together. Record companies will take the new "next big thing' and beat it into the ground. Just like they've done since the 1950's. Many many copy cat bands in the 80's too...

  • no internet ,no cell phones , no ipods , JUST BAD ASS MUSIC and MOVIES!

  • @RAMSASS There were celluar phones in July 1985 and it's likely at least one member of a rock band had one then.

  • @Carmaker1 Well there may have been , but not everyone had one . So that means more people where actually listening to the music

  • @RAMSASS

    You`re so right!!!!!!!!!

  • @RAMSASS if it wasnt for internet we never could see this and any other 80s videos...
