  • @HealthyFoodStorage, you are absolutely correct about needing more food in many situations. This video & article is urging people to start somewhere, to take action of some kind. Many people can't afford the money or space of having a larger food supply. And, there are articles at the URL listed above for more ideas.

  • It is a good idea to have at least a 3 day supply of food, but considering the length of time people were without food and water during the Haiti earthquake for example, you would want to have more. In the U.S. we can look at Hurricane Katrina to see the same situation. Emergency help doesn't always get to us that quickly. I would say to have a month supply, or longer. Get food you like so it doesn't go to waste if you don't end up needing it for an emergency.

  • i have been working on a 4 year food supply but i am VERY rasionitet

  • I forgot my usual harp when responding before:

Those plastic bins are good for canned food but unless you can verify through the manufacturer that they are food grade don't use them to store items in boxes or plastic bags. They are not good for potable water cartage either. The chemicals in the plastics are toxic. Use only food grade buckets for storing goods in soft packaging.

  • @WurledPeas thanks for the info i didnt know that. I did find out another wild edible plant thow goat head leaves are edible when young and thay serve medical benifits as well thay do all kinds of great things for your body. There is a few names for the plant i cant rememer them thow but thay go for 61$ a lb and we have plenty of them growing alaround here thay grow all over America im shure you thave them there but thay are a nusence and thay hurt when you step on them.

  • @gary77777778888888 I had to go look that up. Nope no goat's heads here. I knew what they are but had never heard of them or knew they had a use. I'm in Southern coastal California. No goat's heads here. We had a place in Bullhead City years ago and the town is named after those cursed things. Bullhead thorns. I used to hate those damn things. No kidding, they would puncture a bicycle tire. Been there, done that.

    $61 a pound? WOW.

  • @WurledPeas ya i didnt think there was any use for them eather but it turnes out that thay are healthy and ive had my share of flat bike tiers from them to and ive had some get my feet.

  • I am only stocking iodized salt non iodized salt and shuger we always have food in the pantery but we live around lots of deer, cows, rabits and antolope so salt will help dehidrate the meat and keep bugs off it wille i turn it in to jerky. We do have lots of reloading stuff i got most of it for my 22-250 because its my best all around gun i got 55gr molly coted vmax slugs and just vmax slugs and lots of H414 powder and lots of large riffle primers so we are set

  • @gary77777778888888 I'd suggest you store more food. Game migrate and unless you are really and I mean REALLY out in the sticks once the poop hits the prop the woods will be crawling with game spooking city dwellers. Plus over a long term a predominately meat diet will plug your guts up so get some fiber.

  • @WurledPeas Yes i am very aware of migration and thayer path the deer right now are north of here and in the fall thay come down to lower elivations because its wormer and there is more abundent food that aint coverd in snow and ice but still in the summer months some deer stay in this area and the antilope stay here all year long i am right by the Arizona strip lots of antilope any ways it would be a good idea to get more food stored your right-

  • @WurledPeas but the thing with messing with deer in the summer months thay cary tiks that cary lime disease and minets after your kill the deer tiks start to come of the dead deer and thay are looking for another host.

  • @gary77777778888888 Yeah, the ticks will be an issue to some degree. A tick needs to be on you and in your skin a while to transfer the lyme disease so a good self examination and wearing of light clothes will help mitigate that. That and some repellant.

  • i would have thought most people would only go the shops once a week anyway? maybe twice for milk... seriously 3 days of food? i am glad you said to extend it to a few months later. i mean give me 8 liters of water an i can go 3 days WITHOUT food. But... i guess we've all gotta start somewhere sometime....right

  • @trje246

There are lots of situations you may not be considering. Event if one goes shopping weekly, before getting there something could prevent successfully getting food. That could be a situation outside your area that keeps the stores' delivery trucks from arriving.

You may be a healthy person who can get by on water only for three days. Not everyone can.

I'm glad your situation is such that you don't need only a 3-day emergency supply of food. Others aren't that lucky.

  • yeah, i totally get it, listen if you are serious about being prepared. and you stick to this 3 day food thing on the side. you would already be not only have more stock than most people put away, you would have the advantage and peace of mind of knowing that you'll be okay for that time. i myself have many month supplies ready not just food either things like the luxury of toilet paper for example. Doing this and having that MINDSET is just as important as having stocks for 3 days or 30 years

  • Have you increased your food supply from 3 to 7 days yet?

  • @rosrychaplet We actually have 3-6 months of food on hand. How about you?

  • that is good for the first 72 hr but longer shelf life stuff should also be packed... I always pack a 1lb salt container and 5 jars of bullion cube inside each 5gal mylar/plastic bucket with oxygen absorbers...Salt and bullion will help greatly with some flavor for the pinto beans and rice.. I

  • Pretend you have just been through a major earthquake. The roads are completely impassible for cars. You need to get yourself and your three days food storage to a shelter. Grab up your current supply and lug it around the block.

Did you survive the walk around your block? Perhaps you need to re-think all of this ultra heavy 72 hour supply of food. It is NOT evacuation friendly.

  • @BohemianGarnet Better to have several months of supplies and stay put. That shelter you seek may end up being a prison. Just look at what happened in the dome after Katrina. It was horrid, people were beaten and raped. The doors were locked. Those people were imprisoned by FEMA. Do not depend on government to help you, help yourself instead.

  • Good information.....Thank you..

Hey, you guys...check out my "favorite videos" for similar and some different ideas..

  • Very good thank you

    Save you many containers
