Little girl it's a great big world but there's only one of... MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spinal Tap is an obvious nod to 70s band Uriah Heep. They had that type of sound (check out the song "Gypsy"), an album called "the wizard's birthday" (so "Stonehenge" isn't it?) and one of their bass players was electrocuted on stage...
I wounder if anyone ever wounder that if we hate todays music cause were used to old music. and maybe thats how our parents and grandparents though of when they listen to the music in the 70s and 80s?
@StealthTroops Thats true lol. but somehow kids eat this shit of music today. Like how kids ate there shit of 90s rap and grudge music and kids in the 80s ate the rock and pop and glam music and kids in the 70s ate there disco and rock music and kids in the 60's ate there rock music. Now we just got lame pop and autotune music :\
@narutoguerra Not all kids though - I'm sixteen and the only modern music i would even think of listening to in underground punk. Most of the people i know, though, listens to either deathmetal or autotuned pop.
@narutoguerra Dude, I'm ten years old and I hate all this faggoty pop love music going on. AUTOTUNE AUTOTUNE AUTOTUNE....They can take rap, roll it up into a ball and shove it up there ass.
"On what day did the lord create Spinal Tap? And couldn't he have rested on that day too?" LOL! Love this movie! Probably one of the greatest songs of all time!
Yes rock n roll reached it's zenith in '74, but when Spinal Tap turned they amps up to 11.1, they changed time with all the power, so they actually were at that zenith even tho on our clock it was "84, not '74. This was confirmed by stephen Hawking at Cambridge and it is a fact. There's only one thing more powerful in the universe than Spinal Taps' amps and thats Chuck norris' Fist
He's also Smithers, Kent Brockman, Reverend Lovejoy, Dr. Hibbert, Lenny, Otto, Rainier Wolfcastle, Dr. Marvin Monroe, Principal Skinner and Ned Flanders :)
The 80s were mainly about other stuff, I'd say. Rock and especially metal had a mixed time of it, from what I know (probably not that comprehensive since I didn't live through any of it!)
Although thrash came into existence during the 80s and punk was still producing some very good bands in the US.
So do I, especially considering that they were all written and recorded by Chris Guest, Harry Shearer, Michael Mckean and Rob Reiner (Spinal Tap and Marty Debergi). They are all very competent musicians in real life;so it's not surprising that many of the songs on this soundtrack record are melodic and radio friendly (60s through the early 80s material). In fact, Hell Hole and Cup and Cakes were minor top 40 hits in Europe, when the movie was released.
They have an album out that they released in 94 called 'Break Like the Wind' which is very very good. Has collaborations with Slash, Zappa, Satriani, Beck even Cher! They are releasing another album this month called 'Back From the Dead", which I cant wait for.
They actually made two albums and went on two tours, in both 84' and 92' respectively, for The Black Album and Break Like the Wind. I donn't think that Break Like The Wind was as musically good or funny as the first record, though. They were are The Folksmen, from the movie A Mighty Wind and do a great job with some of the materiel on that soundtrack. Very underrated and in some cases, unknown musicians.
A question of taste of course. Most 70's pre-punk rock musicians were professionals, say jazz or blues musicians who played rock, and in the music you can hear their influences. I think Punk, although great, changed things, which culminated with the 80's hair bands. Skills were in the end limited amongst the hair bands. However, i prefer the 80's, because of heavy metal (not hair/glam), and the awakening of more extreme metal music, like thrash. :)
@aydooknow I hate all of this pointless nostalgia. The 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, and 00's all have its share of great music and utter mainstream shit. Great musicians don't stop being born. But then again, if all you do is listen to radio and watch TV, you will rarely find something half decent. Were the 70s any different with disco?
@aydooknow how about tame impala, radiohead, karnivool, tool, sugar army, sigur ros, the frames, earth, birds of tokyo, mgmt, passion pit, queens of the stone age, the sword, thrice, third eye blind, portugal the man, opeth, fair to midland, he is legend, john butler trio, oceansize, one day as a lion etc.?

Music today doesnt suck, if you think it does your just fucking lazy
@br4ve Very good point. They just don't market good music anymore. No money in anything that would appeal to anyone older than 25 that has financial responsibilities.
@velvetsnape Ironically, since you brought that up, Eric Idle and George Harrison were actually best of friends. In fact, George Harrison put up his house as collateral to help pay for Life of Brian.

It's a comedy film. The members of "Spinal Tap" are both actors and musicians (Harry Shearer is a prominent voice actor on The Simpsons.)
They made the movie, but it was popular enough and the songs were good enough that they decided to make an album under the band's name and do tours.
