Probably Shin had been working on this piece at the Cello Class and Master Aikawa was there to lend a bit of tone.

Looks like the cellos are doubling the same notes, perhaps to balance the huge piano sound. This piece was written for small voiced fortepiano, clavichord, or harpsicord.
