can they speak the language without doing the clicks also ? or do they need the clicks all the time,, this language allmost sounds chinese with clicks
@JOKAWILD26 No, you cannot speak the language without clicks. They are just another sound in the language, like say 'f' or 'v' in English. Just like there are some words you cannot say in English if you don't use 'v' or 'f', there are some words you can't say in Xhosa without the clicks. In fact, you can't even say the name of the language without a click. But they are not as frequent as in this clip. These are tongue twisters, chosen for the unusually high percentage of vlick sounds.
@jonykakuyo They use 3 main letters: 'q' for the loud popping clicks you heard in the first tongue twister, 'c' for the clicks you heard in the second which sound a little like an English speaker saying 'tsk tsk', and 'x' like in the name of the language which sounds a bit like an English speaker telling a horse to giddyup. These 3 can then be modified by things like putting 'h' after them to indicate they are spoken with a lot of air or putting 'n' in front to indicate they are nasalized.
This is not Zulu. This guy, when he does get to actually make sentences, he speaks Xhosa. I know, I can speak them both. The clicking sounds do not make sense, its just show off. In Zulu youcan make a complete sentence without making a clicking sound which is a 'Q'. This consonent is not in every word.
