I still can't fathom why Shock Treatment was so reviled. I do love Rocky Horror more, but Shocky is completely fun and unique, with its own brilliant songs and acerbic wit. The reasons I love Rocky more come down to personal taste and self-identification.

@MmeLEnfer Shock Treatment definitely has things to say (and it was pretty damn prescient) with a brilliance of its own, but it really doesn't live up to Rocky. Rocky looks utterly timeless, ST is very dated. Rocky speaks universally to outsiders and the jokes are classic pastiche of tropes and films which will never be forgotten. ST is more of a moment in culture. Finally, the characters in Rocky are unquestionably iconic, ST is too obscure for that kind of appeal. IMO.

@trinityj1 That's true, but I don't think the soundtrack's really dated. The look is, but in a way I think it was necessary. And Shocky was quite prescient. However, I do agree. Rocky is the greater, and I do love it more. It's a one of a kind classic hit.

I remember seeing this around the time Shock Treatment came out, a bunch of times because someone had it on video. In the 30-odd years since, every time I've come across a reference to Shock Treatment, my brain would always play, "Not a prequel, not a sequel, but an equal, to the Rocky Horror Picture Show." Hearing it just now it sounds exactly how I remembered it, but I thought it was Richard O'Brien who said it. Ah, the internet, shattering false memories since 1995!
