Wow girl...you buy pre-made pizza dough and sauce? And then put the whole thing in the microwave? Apart from the fact that the cheese is overly processed?? And then call it whole food??? Sorry, I think you got the whole idea of nutrition wrong...even if you go vegan just for the animals you should make sure you eat proper food!! Just don't eat cheed all together...we don't need a substitute for everything! I am vegan but normal cheese is probably healthier than this stuff...
Daiya really irritates my stomach :/ I wanted to like it....I can stomach it on pizza if it's not too much, but I can't make like a grilled cheese or mac and cheese with it.
I bought Daiya today because of this review. It is not good. I repeat this stuff does not taste good. Save yourselves. Next time my pizza will only have veggies and sauce. I am now recognizing we truly do not need a substitute for everything.
I've been interested in Daiya, but your right it is incredibly hard to find, and if Whole Foods is one of the only places that carry it, I'm in trouble....the last place I bought a weeks worth of groceries at Whole Foods it was what I could splurge on Non Vegan Stuff for a Monty ($_$)
I got a bag of the mozzarella and there is $5.89 down the drain. The smell of it bad I could not get it to my mouth. It melted in a sticky blob like a wet bread dough and smelt not better than eating raw bread dough. Sad, I wanted to like it.
the daiya cheese that i bought came from canada and it is in a different packageing.my daiya doesnt taste like regular cheese and it taste bad.i wonder if usa and canada daiya cheese taste different ?.cool that you can get those stuff at a health food store.
so are you saying all vegan cheese is "unpleasant"?I would really like to try some myself but when that one word pops up it makes me think it might not be worth my time to try to even make some home made
@tappakeggaday1 before Daiya, there were very few good vegan cheeses. Daiya is incredible, and Sheese and Cheezly are also quite good. Definitely worth a try!
I live approximetly 22miles from whole foods so when I heard of the excistence of this store and that it carried a lot of vegan products and Daiya cheese I bought 8 containers and OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo GOOOD!!!! I am in love!!! It is better than real cheese! I want to tell the world about this perfect cheese. It is too good to be true!!!!!!!!!
I just tried some cheddar on nachos and it's incredible. It smells like dairy cheese, tastes like dairy cheese, and melts like dairy cheese! Except Daiya doesn't have that pervy hormone laden milk of another species.
@DragonBunni thats what I used to think, but they taste really good in recipes with spices. I made lasagna and paninis with the moz and it was fanastic.
I hate any other vegan cheese >_> Follow Your Heart's cheese is absolutely terrible.
That's right, the orange/yellow version is cheddar and the white is what Daiya calls Italian Blend. You've got to try a grilled cheese with the cheddar - unbelievable! They don't have a retail package yet but I understand they are working on it. At Expo West, they told me they pronounce it "day ah" but many people pronounce it the way Eco-Vegan Gal does which they thought was pretty cool too. They say they will update their website with any news on availability and any future retail release.
The yellow is actually the cheddar as it says but the other one is the mozzarella. They must have put the wrong label on it. They are both delicious! I have had several pizzas at WF already. I don't eat soy or gluten any more so this cheese is ideal. I have them make the pizza on a gluten free rice crust. It is amazing!
I have been to several WF's and none of them sell the cheese by itself. That is so cool they do that at the El Segundo location. Thanks for the heads up. :-)

A lot of plastic packaging for an eco-conscious person. :)

@selenite1 it doesn't smell like cheese at all... ಠ_ಠ
DragonBunni 5 months ago
@DragonBunni To me the cheddar one does. I didn't care for the mozzerella (sp) one.
selenite1 5 months ago
@selenite1 The cheddar one was the only one I kinda liked. The mozzarella was bland and the pepper jack tasted like straight up sewage :/
I thought they all smelled kinda root-like, almost plastic-y. They smelled like synthetic material.
