What bullshit! These are the same tired nationalsm arguments that get dragged ot everytime. Your mouth pieces on the radio are always keen not to openly say english bastard or bloodrag but the comments clear that up in an instant, actually I do know about the situation in Cornwall and history of Cornwall thank you and do not wish to see more propaganda. The Cornish are not a race and you do not become a seperate race just by feeling that way, how absurd!
@themightyrara How absurd that you feel quailfied to speak for an entire nation on how they are supposed to identify themselves. Surely it's up to them. I'm afraid you obviously have little idea of th situation if you're unwilling to accept that there are reasons and justifications to why people feel this way. You can't really ignore 50,000 (MORI 2002) signatures asking for a Cornish assembly or 37,000 people identifying as a Cornish nationality in the last census despite no tick box.
@themightyrara What a strange thing to suggest that we hate the English. How closed minded are you? I can assure you that most are aware and modern enough to realise that xenophobia is no way gain a positive outcome when dealing with nationality and devolution, unfortunately a great deal of English people don't allow the same courtesy to the Cornish. They didn't like it when the Welsh and Scottish were asking for an assembley either.
@themightyrara I'm sure you know by now that youtube comments are usualy filled with the scourge of society, who think that primary school name calling is the way to conduct debate. You go to any video and you'll find xenophobic and homophobic comments strewn across it... no matter what the subject.
@themightyrara your very naiive if u think love for your own country, nation or identity means hate towards another country-maybe your demosnstarting how your own identity relies on intolerance and a lack of undertsnding
What this conversation really lacks is a separation of nationality & ethnicity. There's no conflict. Now if someone says they're Cornish by nationality then it's simply a matter of geography.Ethnically speaking it would be about language/culture irregardless of geography.I understand there's always a xenophobe problem with ultranationalists, but being a reactionist is as bad.Of course DNA is relevant.Ethnicity is based on family ties.Though I'd remind some, the Celts always adopted other peoples.
Cornish nationalism grew in the face of economic realities. That's what modern nationalism is based on.. A need for us to take control of our own Duchy, one of the very poorest regions in Europe. A dream in the mind of the Majority (55% - MORI 2003).
Your arguments are getting very thin.
You've been repeating the same crap with no valid retort for a long time. And what on earth does MK have to do with support for nationalism. Remember that the Lib Dems support an assembly too!
Cornish Nationalism died in the face of economic realities. A dream in the mind of internet nerds who post on Cornwall 24 (yeah, go there and see the nutters in action) or for the 0.00001% who vote for Mebyon Kernow.
So If I want to be Chinese...all I have to do is say I'm Chinese and then...I am?
They have a really bizarre idea of nationality.

They ask what is it to be Cornish ? Well, the same as it is to be Scottish, Welsh, Irish. Freedom from Westminster for us all.
RedPawl 2 years ago 3
@RedPawl You forgot the English. We English also want freedom from Westminster, the occupied former English parliament.

No-one in the debate agreed with the DNA=ethnicity stuff.

A good talk. I feel Cornish, English and British. I don't like this talk of genetics and DNA tho, too much like Nazi Germany.
