  • shit!

  • @peiper1231 Never realised you're a Coast-To-Coast fan.......I'm shocked.

  • Luuuurrrve it!!

  • Playback....not even live

  • @Casonferal1 oh fuck off you twat

its television...thats what happens...all the greatest acts of all time have had to mime on tv thats just how it is...dick head.

  • @mrbarleymob I can tell by the language you used you are of low upbrining and therefor pointless in engaging in inteligent conversation. Any bands that have real talent will never use playback, only bands that have poor level of talent use playback becuase the chance of them messing up, going out of tune, out of key, etc. is high. Where as real proper bands don't have to worry about that. Its rubbish what you say because plenty of great bands will always play live on TV.

  • @Casonferal1

No, you're talking bollocks. I am fucking intelligent by the way, so the use of language is not always indicative of one's IQ.

Anyhow, many TV programmes in the early '80s, especially TotP, would only have bands that mimed to the record because the turnaround was much quicker than if each band had to set up their own equipment. It wasn't seen as being the easy option, merely just a way of seeing the band and their style on TV. OGWT had live acts.

  • @mrbarleymob to be fair they had to mime the real lead singer Alan Mills had left the band so Stuart mime to Alans recorded vocals anyway

  • chyeh charlie parker

  • this rocks...!!!

  • What are you on about?. This is the best version ever.

  • @flares agreed

  • @flares i agree

  • @flares This one isn't bad, to be sure, but the best release of this particular version was done by Chubby Checker in 1961.

  • @tchapman1977 Never. I've just listened to Chubby Checker's version and it isn't a patch on this one. This one IS better. It's got more energy.

  • You ever seen a grown man naked?

  • A good song , though it is a cover I might mention . Don't ask me who else has done it though . Anyway , good song , but they must have felt right prats doing that performance on stage . If not then when they see themselves now they must

  • @2100Rose . Chubby Checker?

  • @2100Rose chubby checker 1949 kay star ? the birdies 65 and many more

  • school days i loved this when you had punks in one corner rockrs in the other

  • So that's where Carlton got his influence

  • memories

  • the old toe heel toe heel

  • anyone know wher i can find the original?

  • I have it in my garage on 7" vinyl

  • i mean original,

    by chubby checker,

    or by Roy Milton

  • BRILLIANT

  • Vocals belong to Alan Mills still going with The Hucklebuck Band, recorded in 1980 a year before release , but band had split up, Sandy was a last minute for TOTP mime act, Founder members Buddy Ricco (bass) and Alan Mills sued each other, over illigal use of Alans voice on TOTP, Alan got the money and Bud got the rights to the name Coast to Coast, I know this because I became the next lead singer (no miming) Bud and I went on to become The Beat Mavericks for some years before my Solo career

  • even i love black metal and i agree as most hardcore religious ppl do that ALL music is from SATAN and this IS another perfect example............

  • so are you spunk sucker

  • Just post your music let's see what you like so we can take the piss out of you

  • It's not total crap. It's just a fun song.

  • one of the defining songs of my teenage years

  • Anything with cute, good-looking girls looks good to me; I like your taste in CC's music, and I thank the poster for putting this up! Who else is watching?

  • I watched this and laughed so much !!!

I did it in a play I did a while ago so I knew every word

  • My ex and I used to end up as the floor entertainment jiving to this :-)

  • Followed it up with "Let's Jump The Broomstick"

  • They were pretty good - a sort of "junior" Bill Haley And His Comets" for the 1980s. But why did they only have one hit?

  • they had at least 1 other hit with let,s jump the broomstick

  • @dfarmbrough

tThe B side of Hucklebuck called Telephone Baby was more popular on the Rockin circuit and the indi charts.

  • @motorvating i was about to say that.. have not got my 45 anymore, my younger brother probably broke it..

  • tis song ruuls the hucklebuck for life xD

  • Love this song - I remember a great debate going around my high school as to whether or not they were doing the "correct" version of the dance? I have seen a very different version but they are both fun (and good workout) Didn't Frank Sinatra record a version of this and get in trouble for improvising some "dirty" lyrics? :)

  • still waiting for the "our wayne" release

  • ha ha!right on!

  • sounds like a garry glitter record.

  • The lead singer on this track is alan mills the guy in the video is sandy if you look carefully you can see he is miming the song as alan mills was not available at the time of the footage because he had already left the band he is still about and fromtime to time plays in other bands he is a good friend of mine so i know that this is the real story great song and video

  • I brought The album coastin in the 80's when first released still one of the best albums around but I know very little about the band ,what are they doing know anyone know ?

  • The lead singer is now the CEO of GlaxoSmithKline.

This is the greatest song ever!

  • Think they still play on the holiday circuit.Lead singer left in 83 and is an actor currently starring in 'On The Waterfront' at the Theatre Royal,Haymarket, London

  • Algiannini do you know the names of all the members of the band shown on the video?

  • Nobody can do the hucklebuck like Ed Norton from the Honeymooners When he was trying to teach Ralph Kramdon...lolololol.

  • Man, I love this song! I think it's time to re-release it, whaddaya say?! ;-)

  • You can't re-release a song like this. It's too much fun confusing the under 35s with Hucklebuck references.

  • tigerboy1966: That is so true! The youth of today doesn't have the talent nor the attention span to appreciate tunes like this. I feel sorry for them really. :-(

  • i wish this music come back...i wasn't born in those times. i suppose it was great!!!

  • Hahaha, Carlton does the Hucklebuck when he dances.

  • my mother used to dance 2 this in her prime!!!

  • it was toe heel toe heel in 81 to this

    great to hear it again

  • plz can some1 tell me y pete k has not released do the hucklebuck. christmas no.1 for definite (not my comment)

  • R wayne !!

  • haha i loved the clip of him singing this lol

  • Good shaggin` song!

  • uh uh uh uh uh baby

  • I LOVE R-WAYNE.

  • Lol I got here from there.

  • Well, it's good, but it's not as good as R Wayne's version

  • dancer on the left is late at 1:43..

  • so great to see and hear this!

  • Top 5 hit in early 1981 - but does anyone have any more info about them?

  • I used to see them all the time in the late 70's / early 80's in and around Corby and Kettering.

The original lead singer had quit the band not long before they appeared on TOTP's, and then there was a law suit over who was singing on the record.

  • Superb!

  • "Superb!" its comments like this that make this horrid gay video worth while.

  • Another tune we used to jive tom lordy I miss my dancing :-(

    super thanks

  • I remember dancing like Shakin Stevens to this as a young 17 year old, and got through the whole song. Id need resuscitation now just to get me through the flaming intro!!

  • Northerners love this sh!te!

  • Fun stuff!

  • i remember this very well

  • Fab song! Is the blonde dancer Shirlie, backing singer of Wham and then from Pepsi and Shirlie fame?

  • Simple answer is

    Nope ;)

  • Looking for a cd of this song, don't care even if it's listed under "various artists", thank you? even a K-Tel special

  • You'll find it on the 1981 edition of the Music Of The Year series, on the Spectrum label, which I believe has since been re-branded as 'Friends Reunited - Music Of The Year'. Charity shops or your local weekend music fair might turn them up.

  • The lead singer of this group did some building work at my school in the early 80's.

    Great song!

  • brought back great memories of when music and life were fun.me and my lady just tried to do the dance and i suffered a hernia and my lady had a prolapse.

  • Great fun ! Where are the fun records these days ?

  • Pure Class !!!

  • Fucking brilliant

  • youre brill sophiemae

  • This was originally done by Chubby Checker but I think this version is better...more energy. Brings back good memories and fun times.

  • incorrect, I believe williams [not sure of first name] sang this long, long prior to Chubby Checker

  • Wow...I didn't know it went back to 1949..however Williams admits that the his song is not the same song anymore...."There seems no doubt that everyone involved in that November 1949 session: Paul Williams, Teddy Reig and songwriter Andy Gibson had heard the Charlie Parker tune. But the "Hucklebuck" was a loping tenor sax instrumental, not a frenetic bebop number. "It's not the same song," Paul Williams told me in a phone interview.

  • I disagree, only differ is the " wiggle like a snake", Williams sang "wiggle like an eel",and also Chubby Checker sang "wiggle like an eel" and more of a "swing" style in 1949. This version is up more tempo, like watching "Happy Days" and their "up temp" of " Rock around the Clock"

  • Anyone got the royal Showband Waterfords 1960's version?

  • Brought back lots of memories. Saw them live when I was about 12, with my family at Meldreth Village Hall, Cambridgeshire, along time ago, but have not forgotten them

  • my kids know the hucklebuck....wooohooo...and they are yougsters 15,12,9,who have been brought up on the greatest music....

  • This brings back some good times in the 80's I was only 7 and my mum has the 45 still!! We must've danced our socks off to this most nights!! Clean, good fun!

  • Do The Hucklebuck :L

    Good Time's Like :D

  • ......t

  • Yeah i was miming on TOTP cos the recording had already been made when Alan Mills left and i joined.I re-recorded it for foreign release and the album Coastin.Typical 70's/80,s pop scandal! Who gives a shi

  • Apparently - a signed record lies in the loft of my hubby as Sandy used to work with his dad! Hope you are all well!

  • I thought the singers name was Sandy or where you using a different name at the time still have the album and yes it still gets played all the best

  • Sandy Fontaine actually, a name made up from a childhood nickname and stealing Fontaine from Eddie Fontaine.

  • nice one sandy , brings back memories of the flat in finedon. how you doing ?

  • fab 80s

  • Wow! Is that Mark Ellen introducing the video? I used to watch Beat Club. I miss the old VH1...:( Thanks!

  • Yeah, he used to be a writer for Smash Hits, then he started presenting on "Whistle Test" - we all thought he was kind of cute like Paul McCartney :)

  • are these guys still going ?

  • may have been cheesy but great stuff, brings back memories, thanks for posting

  • Look, I know it's just me, but wouldn't Morrisey look great taking this one on...? rofl

  • The guy singing owns the voice you can here..i know that as an absolute fact cuz "he ain't heavy..."

  • It certainly brings back some lovely memories, it may have been cheesy, but it's a hell of a lot better than the crap today. Keep on rockin'

  • great stuff, i remember being told that the guy on here was just miming because the real singer was a bit ugly to front it, i wonder if that was true.

  • he is miming, i go to school with the original singers son! :p

  • So cheesy, but i rocked to it as well

  • Ha Ha - great bit of cheezy rock n roll, I saw this lot at the Ipswich Gaumont in the 80's they were supporting the Jets.
