  • hhhmmm..no solo.!! i would like to learn that.

  • r u british?

  • @gugik1970 English, yes :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 ahh lol i noticed.... nice vid btw :)

  • you need to do an OPEN "I"

  • Good vid. But I prefer 10 on the E string twice then a hammer on on the A string from 10 to12. Then 10 on G and slide from 12 to5 on the D string

  • pum pum puru purum pum (8)

    nice video

  • oooh how fun! thanks. now I can seem like a sick bass player even if I only know this song >:D

  • เสี่ยว 5 55

  • Wonderful lesson. Anyone can learn this song. (except for the solo, that's gonna be another chapter)

  • ha i like your vids your always hyped like on on speed! haha i can tell you really love the bass lol :) im new at it so i still suck haha

  • My guitar lost its first and second strings, does it count as a bass now?

  • @cename21 Not even a little bit...

  • @Dmanlamius76 lol, why?

  • @cename21 Because Bass and guitars are different instruments. They look similar, but couldn't be more different. A Bass players function in a band is to maintain the low, support the melody, and hold the rhythm. We are the low end of the composition. Guitar is more treble, and sits in the high to middle ranges of sound. This is why we have big thick strings, and guitarists have thin strings, smaller necks and different pickups and amplifiers. This is why your guitar cannot be a Bass...

  • @Dmanlamius76 oh.. well i didnt get anything u said so i'll just consider my 4 string guitar a bass :D

  • @cename21 Your guitar is going to grow up with a complex. It'll be hanging out with Basses, and they'll all be looking at it funny, and your guitar will be like "hey guys, I'm a Bass!" and make a boom boom boom noise. But it'll come out a bit whimpy, and they'll all laugh at it. Think of the poor guitar, and it's feelings. Go get it two strings, and let it run free with all it's guitar friends...

  • @Dmanlamius76 oh :/ okay dude thanks for the advice ! now i'll go and fix my guitar so it wont be left out anymore from its other guitar friends :D

  • @Dmanlamius76 My mind is full of fuck at his response.

  • @yeee941 Whoohooooo!

  • chido chido chido

  • this is not easy at all :D

  • Stingray?!

  • dude, ur freaking awsome!!!! ive been playing bass for a year and a half, but ive yet to do solos and riffs while playing songs. i was wondering if you could tell me how u do it. i admire you and i thank you for posting these videos.

  • Just wanted to say thanks for posting your lessons. They are most helpful and, I think it is very cool of you to share your knowledge and talent with those who want to learn. In my younger days I played bass but, it was mostly classic country to some top 40 country. I am a child of the 70's and really dig the rock music of that era. I am just now reacquainting myself with the bass and with your help, I intend to expand my abilities.

    Thanks again!

  • what's going on with your thumb when you play through it? Are you using it to mute?

  • Wow thanks so much for this vid. Started playing bass about 3 days ago and this song is going well so far :D Getting a little harder after you move from 3rd to 5th to 6th but i'll get there ;D Thanks again :)

  • I watched a live version of Wild Cherry playing this and the bass player plays it in a different position, avoiding open strings. Why do you use open strings?

  • @wmjoca Same tonal quality :)

  • Way too much talking....

  • @ajw14

I wouldn't be able to do this without the talking

  • you are just awesome!! I mean 2 days ago I get my first Bassgitar and yesterday i saw this video and today I can play this song and that because of you!!!! thank you verry much. Also I have a question: Do you also have a video were I can learn how to play This Love from Maroon5 ??

  • @juutful I don't have that video, sorry. I'm really glad that you've enjoyed this video though :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 im a lead guitarist and im also starting to learn bass. i got an Ibanez bass, what kind do u use?

  • you are just awesome!! I mean 2 days ago I get my first Bassgitar and yesterday i saw this video and today I can play this song and that because of you!!!! thank you verry much. Also I have a question: Do you also have a video were I can learn how to play This Love from Maroon5 ??

  • wish i could play guitar!

  • how do you make the bass sound like funk and tight, everything i try on mine, it still sound deep long and boring and low

  • @Disco32er Practice getting the attack sharper. As in, how you hit the string. Try it on the 5th fret on the E string first. Hit it over and over, but try and get the duration sharper and sharper. Do this on each string, over and over. Eventually, it'll come :)

  • dude that shits magic ahaha

  • A useful video showing how to play a simple rendition.

    Instructions start at 1:25 min.

    YTR rating: 7/10

Like this comment if it was useful.

  • lol u sound like jaco at 13:30

  • Dman you have worked wonders for me. I began playing bass about three weeks ago and thanks to you, I am improving every day

  • @stephenandrhodes Excellent! ;)

  • @Dmanlamius76 DUDE YOU ARE EVIL. i have to buy a bass now hahah :)

  • this was really help full

  • he actually plays it the first E on the A string 7th fret and then the same notes as you do i think sounds really good thanks for the lesson!

  • thats a good version to play with the band?

  • @busislo01 Oh, definatly. You won't notice the difference.

  • just learned this song. it was hard at frist but i got it. thanks Dman!

  • sorry, but whats a rendition?

  • @busislo01 It means "a version of". Just incase I don't teach it perfect :)

  • i cant folo you an i just started playin

  • why dont you show us how to play the part where the guitar solo is man that the best part, I was diging this shit until you skimped out on us

  • How do you tune your AMP and bass to sound like that ?

  • nice bass, what is it? x

  • @GemWoody That be a Musicman Stingray :)

  • @Dmanlamius76 Ohhhhh that bass is sweet! How much does it cost? How much have you paid for it?

  • very good video. great music to learn for begginers, because you must get more fingers involved and its very fun to play. great videos overall dman! greetings freom slovenia!

  • Awesome! Nice bass ( :

  • This is a really great instructional video. Very patient, step-by-step approach. Much appreciated.

PS: At the "play that funky music til you die" riff, I think its a B, not a Bb. The Bb works, but it may be dissonant when pushed up against a guitar playing the B.

  • you sound like excactly (i'm dutch ca'nt spell that...) JX23 from machinima :D ps that's positive

  • Hey Dman i was looking at your site for the lesson tree but didnt find it.

  • Iv just started learning bass today :)

Does anyone have any tips for me on how to start off?

  • @GEORGEONZA I have many. Go to my site, Dmanlamius . com and go onto the lesson tree. Start from the beginning, and work your way up. Hope it helps :)

  • Great Job man

  • Music Man be supa coo. Funky Machoman can dig it!

  • dude that was awesome I just got a bass and am looking to get realy good could you send me the sheet music for this song?

  • Hello Kris, wondering If you taught the song China Grove on your vids? or maybe I just over looked it! Thanks!

  • its about time I commented, have been taking your lessons for a while now and must say your doing a great job man. Love your work. from Jay in OZ

  • thanks for being awesome man

  • If i were you m8 i wouldn't even bother to post a reply to the wankers who have a dig at ur playing. You're a v good player and a lot of people really appreciate your lessons so if they dont like them then f**k them

  • thanks for taking the time to post all these videos ! PS I understand your English :D

  • Can't help but notice how all the 'negative comment merchants' don't actually give any lessons themselves but just slag off others who are trying to help. If they're so good where are their videos?

  • Hell yes - now i can play the song marvelously - Thanking you Mr!!!

  • Sounds like Jamie Oliver !

    Good job, thanks for posting.

  • very interesting..i dont know a sht about bass guitar, but i found this helpful

  • ur the man!!kip en rockin sensei ",

  • great job, thanks a lot

  • @jcm9630 No problem man :)

  • @lclaughton Its a rendition. Thats why the "junk" stuff in the solo. A rendition. Thats what it says....Anyway, apart from that I agree with what you say. I might re-record this one.

  • @lclaughton quiet you troll, funk doesn't stay the same its tangible. dw you'll realise in life sometime

  • @lclaughton Your a douche bag. Saying you have been playing this song for years why the fuck you looking at a cover???? Then your hating on him, you post a video of you playing this song bet you would fucking suck. SOrry mate!

  • an advice for you man- first playing-after that- talking

very nice lesson by the way

  • an advice for you man- first playing-after that- talking

  • awesome lesson. thank you so much!

  • WOW, I didn't realize he was speaking English until like 20 seconds into the vid, clutch accent!

  • @jahenx94 Yea, It's English :D

  • this guy can teach.

  • Love your vids man, I've only been playing 6 months but love it, taught me loads, you deserve a medal. Would love to see you do a tutorial of the Eagles - Hotel California. A+

  • woh!!!

  • Oh, man, you're great!)

  • I think youre playing the guitar part, the bass part is little different

    E-0, A-5, A-7, (fast part now) E-0-3 A 0-5-7 and the same for the G part

  • EXCELENT teacher and player!

  • wow, that helped a lot, i looked at the tabs but i couldn't find any good ones or tell if they were right, but with this i can HEAR that its right... ut the solo, mabey teach that?

  • Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! You're playing the opening guitar riff! It drives me mental to hear bass players play that riff instead of the damn bass line! You'll NEVER get the proper groove down unless you listen to the original bass line. I know that this is your 'rendition', but really, it shouldn't be used as a tutorial in funk. Try listening to the real bass line, learn it, then do another tutorial. Sorry to moan...just want to help. :)

  • you have just taught me my first proper song on bass, thankyou so much, you're a brilliant teacher!

  • nice vid, well paced for someone wanting to get into the style.

  • Thank man! Thats great!:)

  • Man!! You are amazing!!! I found your blog totally by accident, but it's a keeper

  • mate that is a proper beard!

  • It's very unfortunate that other person's internet is too slow. He/She could have learned a lot from this video. When teaching, one needs to talk. I appreciate this instruction. You are a great teacher . And a great bass player. Thanks.

  • @TheAdampruitt Thankyou :)

  • You are amazing, I have always wanted to learn to play Bass Guitar, as soon as I can afford one I'm going to Do it and I've got a feeling your uploads are going to be of great use to me so thanks in advance, Pastorius!

  • nice work my friend! i haven't played in 12 years since my band broke up. your vids are making me want to pick up my bass again. cheers!

  • yeah i mean the chorus

  • Comment removed

  • my insternet is too slow and u talk too much, didn't watch.

  • @ButlerSONG GOOD.

  • Hey, thanks for all the videos, Ive watched a bunch of them because I just bought my first bass. I played the bass in a small school band but it was all improvised. You've helped me to develope some skills that I didnt know I had. Now I can play without improvising on the songs.

  • u r THE mAN

  • Hey, I played bass for years, leveled out in my skills, and then quit because my band broke up and didn't play for a few years. I read the book Talent is overrated and realized that it takes deliberate practice to improve, not just playing time. I started looking for videos on developing my skills beyond where they were and came across your videos. I really appreciate everything you do. I know it's a wide audience you cater to, but most players can learn something from you. Many thanks, Ran

  • @dripism No problem, Ran. Thanks for the positive message :)

  • I keep watching this because I really enjoy funk and it's into my liking that I play a lot of it: I've been offered into a band but I barely know how to play bass, I thought I'd give it ago with tutorials. Do you think it's a wise idea that I only watch yours and pick up your techniques & adapt mine so that I learn much faster? I've had my Encore for about 2 years & only ever played little riffs of my own. I really appreciate that your doing this for free, looking forward for more.

  • @MkieNedachi Yea, thats ok! Go through all my vids, and learn it as I teach. Its all good stuff that will get you into positive habits, which will help you in the future. Once you've learnt all the basic stuff, you can start evolving into your own style and way.

  • First of all ur a great teacher!! Second is it possible for u to show us Goldfinger by the Barkays! that is a really funky groove line for the bass

  • Great stuff man thanks

  • I skipped the tutorial part, just enjoyed your funky playing ;)

  • I have been dying to learn to play Bass! My dad and brother both play guitar really well and all self taught from watching youtube videos. Yours is by far the best I've seen for bass. It's so easy to follow. Thank you! I will definitely keep watching. You've pushed me to start learning asap! XOXo

  • hi, this is a great video but you did not really explain how to get the tight thud noise

  • EG: Riff one (extra open A)..i think

    you said:

    E, E,D,E A,B, D,E

    I think you play

    E, E,D,E A,B,A D,E

Sounds whiny I know, but it was really throwing me.

Sorry to complain. Am enjoying your tutorials

  • Great tutorial. Thak you very much.

You do not play the same thing you taught during the "play along portion." there's a bit of rhythmic embellishment in your verse riffs etc, makes it hard to play along.

When I play what you taught it conflicts with what you are playing.

Sorry to complain. Am enjoying your tutorials

  • I've been playing keyboard for years and have had one or two goes on acoustic guitar but given up. Do you reckon Bass Guitar would be a better choice to try instead?

  • do you have a facebook?

  • ur a very good teacher. im just getting into bass. would that song be considered easy to play? lol

  • thanks a lot man keep making these videos

  • thanks a lot man keep making these videos

  • been on your site and just, damn, your a natural multi talant! I really like that you wrote a book, and if I wouldn't be poor right now I buy it because I just love "colour of magic"

  • It's great that you post these tutorial videos for people to learn. But please, PLEASE make more videos of your music. I loved Everyone Sparkles and Snow, and all your other stuff. Please make more of that stuff.

  • Woohoo! That makes me smile, and yes, I will always make music. Thanks man! :)

  • And yet another great tutorial!..Thanks!

  • Thanks again D :)

  • This song is soooo much fun to play... it has very much opportunity to improvise and put your own fills into it:D

    Good video!:D
