Arnel's version is also quite amazing. What makes Arnel's rendition more amazing is in the quality of his voice, which is just plain compact and direct delivery (if you have not noticed it yet after your listening to Journey songs, he, he) without the commercials, so to speak. He is awesome with the true meaning of the word when he sings ... no question about it. But what is the fuzz?

I agree with you that Dave is the original and better range in this song (although with my total collection of Survivor albums from Dave's first LP to Robin's demos, Jimi hits the highest notes of all 3 on the song Burning Bridges) and yes, I agree with you that Dave hits the D with more ease, but that's not what I'm after. The passion part is debatable, but I'm not after that either. I'm after Dave singing more often through his nose than Jimi. That's his style whereas Jimi is all top heavy.

Don't get me wrong. Dave is a great singer and I'd love to have a voice like his (although I'd find a way to do less nasals, lol). I think they both have passion in their own ways. You can't question Jimi's passion in his ballads Across the Miles(a classic!), Is This Love, and The Search Is Over, while Dave does his songs with grace and flawlessness as well. I highly doubt that Robin McCauley could do the same with any of their ballads, although all 3 do well in the fast songs.
