  • The Wizard (of Oz).

  • What's the drummers full name?

  • @coolioto Keith Carlock

  • I don't get how you dislike this, Even if this is music you don't really listen to. It's still some pretty crazy stuff.

  • AWESOME DRUMMER! :DD OMG IT'S JACKIE CHAN!!

  • Keith always steals the show.

  • Yeah boy those drum charts...Intro 4 bars Verse 8 bars Chorus 8 bars...shots...groove 8 bars...vamp 4 bars...

hahaha Before all you drummers get all pissy I'm kidding(mostly)

  • @edidpro What instrument do you play Mr Ignorance?

  • @Crusada54

Guitar, violin, viola, mandolin, dobro, banjo, lap steel and I sing. I do sessions and teach for a living. You can hear me on my page or with the band I'm currently finishing an album with. "Druckfarben" In my spare time I drink excessively and taunt drummers as my alter ego "Mr. Ignorance"

  • @edidpro I'm a drummer and I have to say...dude, you're right. A lot of times modern day drum charts really are that easy to get through. It's not a bad thing, you probably should be giving a break to the guy who needs to be the most solid. Guitarist's can drop some notes and it's no big but if the drums are on some bullshit, it's ALLLLLLLL over.

  • lo adoro.

  • thank youuuuuuuuuu for this upload!! wonderful. a jewel. been watching this since 2006, still everytime i watch it i sweat for 6`

    pure joy :)

  • Will Lee has the best moves!

  • Come on guys, any musician of this caliber , reads music like sentences, have to be precise , otherwise they dont get the gig, at least as a freelance musican you have to read like Colaiuta or carlock right here hehe

  • uuu....Carlock! ...Carlock !

  • I love Oz Noy! What's the guitarist's actual name?

    Guitar - ?????

    Drums - Keith Carlock

    Bass - Will Lee

  • @goldensleeves Oz Noy is his name.

    Carlock rips this up!

  • @goldensleeves real name is Oz Noy

  • @goldensleeves It doesn't look like anyone ever replied to your ?? - His name is Oz Noy...yes, that's a real name...

  • this its a shit !!!! scofield rules!!!! assholes clones form scofield in the 90s

  • @EstudioBlack good thing oz noy sounds nothing like scofield

  • @licksforalltheplayas

yeah, it's a good thing no musician in this world sounds like anyone else. I love it when EVERY musician in the world has their own COMPLETELY ORIGINAL sound, including Scofield. We're all so fortunate.

  • the musical ability in this group is crazy! all of them are at the top of their game.......just amazing to watch....... personally, i think Carlock is the best fit with Oz Noy out of weckl, Fig and Colaiuta

  • ... wow... reading

  • what a groove!

  • Will Lee: One of the most entertaining bass players ever. He juggles lines like a circus preformer. You go Will!!!

  • This is sick. Real interesting melodies n form! Great sound. It's good to hear Will Lee play like this. He's on another planet. Keith Carlock just shreds this thing.

  • Hey Will you should have Oz interpret some beatles with you!

There is NOONE using those scales and effects together like him! Man I can see why you have been at this gig so long!

Hope to see you guys in Chicago!

  • absolutely great stuff! So What and Impressions on speed

  • Keith is PHAT!

  • 4:04 prepares for the killer break. could loop this forever ♥

  • Comment removed

  • yeah... say what?!!

  • @bell0039 listen closely to the accents keith is hitting, they are very close to the most of the guitar parts, and you can see he is reading his ass off. amazing stuff

  • keith is too fat...:-)

  • What a killer 3 piece! Those dudes shred!

  • must really small type... i never saw the

    pages turned over...........

  • Carlock is god. Lee is reading the piece as well. RIF is right.

  • Keith is reading his ass off!!!! Keep in mind kids: READING (music as well as words) IS FUNDAMENTAL!!!!

  • ...Erm... dogmaaaaaa!

  • @smurd82

yes, and keep in mind that all the reading in the world is not going to give you Carlock chops

  • @Baddstuff I didn't say anything about reading giving you chops. If you want chops, practice chops. If you want to be able to read, practice that too. I was just saying that being able to read music, which I think should be mandatory, will give you the "one up" on someone who can't read; especially if you want to do studio sessions like Keith. You can have all the chops in the world, but there are people in the world who don't get gigs, namely recording sessions, because they can't read.

  • @smurd82 Actually you don't need to read music to be a good musician. It helps to communicate and write down ideas, and of course it's good to have that knowledge, especially to be a session musician, but there are thousands of great musicians who can't or coudn't read (George Benson, Robben Ford, Dennis Chambers, Eric Clapton, Hendrix, Wes Montgomery, Charlie Christian, Maceo Parker, Paco de Lucia...).

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte But if you want to be a top professional musician, reading music is a must. I get gigs all the time were people send me the sheets and I have to learn the drum parts in a few days for a whole setlist.

  • @TheSyncopator Maybe you have wider rage of possibilities when getting a gig, recording session... but GOOD MUSICIAN doesn't equal MUST READ. Michael Landau is not a good reader, but is one of the most demanded session musicians, because he knows what the song needs, sounds great, he has good taste, creativity, groove... etc, etc. And those things have nothing to do with reading. Of course reading will help you, but in my opinion is not a MUST.

  • @JusticieroDeLaMuerte I never said a "good musician" needs to know how to read. I said a top professional musician. I am by no means an only sheet music type of guy. I started drumming at three and didnt learn to read until I was 13. Just saying, If you wanna get more gigs and get paid, then It is a huge plus to read. I have nothing against people that cant read music.

  • @TheSyncopator You are right, reading will help you. Knowledge never ends. But there are a lot of top professional musicians who can't read.

  • @smurd82 I agree. Tom Robbins is one of my favorite authors as well.

  • haha its awesome to see will lee performing! Gettin his groove on... and is he barefoot?? :D

  • just heard about this guy a couple minutes ago...i like it. oz is fresh and inventive, but to me the drums stick out as being the star of the show. the tone of that kit is nice. i ike the srv style lick at 1:32!

  • Check out Wayne Krantz too. The drummer here Keith Carlock plays with him as well. Same type of music but I think Wayne is a little bit more obscure.

  • What a simple drum kit!!! I do love the track "Schizophrenic" from Schizophrenic album............ Try it;-)

  • this track is say what from the album ha,

i love this track the studio version is bangin.

  • Nice!

  • awsome!!! Who can suggest me an album to buy?!

  • i like fuzzy the best... although i havent listened to all his albums

  • maestro!!!!!!!!

  • fuckin 1000 stars! je

  • Are you doing this one by one or all 1000 at once?

  • wow that was SICK!!! im am a huge fan of keith and now im a huge fan of oz that was fantastic

  • it cant be!!!

    mf´s.., this is atomic

  • so damn good that I watched it twice and put it up as a link on my friends FB wall.....

    sick-good shit.

  • amazing groove love carlock remember will lee from a roy buchanan album street called strait check out my channel for more

  • you gotta love this.....check out will at about 5:30....i think this trio should stick together for some time eh?

  • big will, showin' all the young dudes

  • Whoa that's something! I've just heard of this guitarist and he's amazing! :O :D

  • Carlock is a mind-bending talent. What an understanding of music. So much expression, communication.

    I'm absolutely floored.

  • He took over for Dennis Chambers in Steely Dan, what does that tell you? Check out my vid of him live with Steely Dan on AJA amazing. Great video2

  • I saw Steely with Ricky Lawson and Carlock , they both were amazing !!! Check Chambers with Tower of Power video here , so amazing , the dynamics and groove.

  • Keith CarLockin' it down!!

    Will tuggin' seriously!

    Oz is just other worldy!

    Awesome...

    Thanks for posting dgbtman33!

    Regards,

    R~

  • DAYum me like this!

  • i literally got a little scared watching this

  • oz is the man

  • Damn, I love that lick at 1:51 that Oz throws...lol...love it.

  • Just watch from 2:55 to 3:10 how the drums and guitar lock in to the same phrasing! And Keith is probably sightreading for Christ's-sake! That's Musicianship!

  • Whoah he *is* reading as well. Didn't realize that til I saw your comment. Seriously impressive.

  • reading is no big deal for Keith Carlock .. he went to North Texas State . A world famous jazz program there . He played in the top jazz band ... the famous 1 o`clock lab band ... the same one gregg bissonette , steve houghton and ed soph played in .

  • This jam is bomb.

  • WIll Fucking Lee....this is the bass player all the young Jaco Wanna-Bees need to pay attention to. Will does it all; funk, rock, jazz, blues...and for those who don't know, Will sings his ASS off! His jingle credits are legendary. First time I've ever heard Oz...he smokes! And Carlock...damn...I had no idea he was that freakin' good!

  • Amen!!

  • Damn that was fucking sweer.

  • Sweer indeed...

  • very sweer!

  • heeeeey, good one.

  • Very Cool sco funk groove !

    Nice phrasing.

  • Kieth dude your the best drummer ive ever seen. Your work with Steely Dan is real impressive. At the end of the song ASIA live, thats just pure awsome! keep up the great work!

  • he sure is talented BB...

  • i saw keith the other day with steely dan. my dad has played several gigs with him in the past

  • Carlock rocks. He's also on the new Walter Becker album. "Circus Money" ... not so much improv, but he has such a tight groove.

  • love it, fun & very groovin'

  • keith is my uncle my name is jeremy carlock

  • lucky bastard

  • Ok? That means he has relatives... that's not weird. Everyone has relatives.

  • Lots of drummers use huge ass drumsets but I love it how Keith keeps it simple with the set, yet complex with the beats. And that thing where he uses rim with one hand and then makes rim-shots with his other is really fun. Try it if you havent because you can get a lot of good sound out of it.

  • you mean crossticking?

  • the bass players choreography is pretty funky at 3:10

  • oh yeaaa he's feeling it!

  • and 4:40 and 5:25!

    haha awesome stuff

  • levi is that you?!

  • Keith's hands are so...different...than any other drummer i've seen. He really lets the stick pull back alot - very cool. This could be revolutionary.

  • You may find that if you allow the stick to do that it allows the drum to sound its best...paul wertico has been teaching that for years....check out han bennink if you can...hes a true inovator....

  • THAT'S the other drummer that has this technique...Paul Weritco! I could picture him in my head but couldn't put the name to the face. Thanks man!

    "Han Bennink"...will do. Cheers.

  • fantastic music, fantastic musicianship.

  • love it :)

  • Not my cup of tea this style what is it called prog, jazz?

  • On top of it anton and will are fucking sick.

  • Noy is a fucking monster.

  • Carlock has to be one of the most bad ass drummers of our time!

  • What a band!!!

  • Oz is a fucking guitar genious !!!!!

  • Love the tune, and Oz's playing is just to cool.

  • Will Lee is so damn COOOOOL!!

  • I mean, isn't this one one the grooviest trios around? Will Lee and Keith Carlock!

    They look like brothers...

  • you should check out a guitar player in Texas: Van Wilks, go to his website.

  • the camera guy is sick man.lol

  • Will Lee is a ill player !

Love his stuff , hes one of the greatest.

  • nice! Carlock is the man. luv his skills

  • GREAT!!!! (the guitar volume too high)

  • Love this vid...the style and tone remind me of John Scofield, which is a fine thing. Lee and Carlock make it memorable. Thank you, noble poster...good one.

  • Carlock:| his skills make me drewl.

  • keith really brings it!

  • there is a reason why he's on DiMarzio's roster... his tone is cool.

  • For those of you who think the guitar player's tone needs to be "fattened" up, Oz Noy happens to believe that too much distortion actually makes a guitar sound too thin. This video doesn't do his tone any justice. On his albums he achieves a very psychadelic, fusiony stevie ray vaughan tone.

  • great drums and bass...guitar sorta alright but annoying

  • Will Lee "wanks" on David Letterman? If your going to "wank" then at least make a TON OF MONEY DOING IT! That way you can play your fun stuff when you want for who you want.

  • You maybe right, eternal David letterman's sideman, politics of culture and power no matter the original band is kicked off the Letterman's show. Other wise, I looked for Will Lee leader work and I found nothing at the Bibliotheque et Archives Nationales at Québec.

    GOOD VIDEO !! this

  • Fattin' the tone up on the guitar!!! Great trio, though.

  • Keith Rocks!

    darrellnutt dot com

  • Good job shooting this vid Mr. Fogel!

  • Jeeeeeeeeez how good is Carlock, damn!! Great power trio.

  • Shit, this guys can surely play. That bass player alone -and his dancing- just makes up for the stillness of Oz. And THAT drummer...I'm fokkin' speechless.

  • I love these guys...keith carlock-100% felling

  • what is that called again when you play snare and rim like that?

  • Ndugu Chancler claims he invented that style. He calls it the "Ndugu cross-stick"

  • It's just muted crosssticking :)

  • Wow, this is really fresh sounding. Dunno who said he sucks, but whatever, prefernce is everything... its obvious he doesn't suck, maybe you just don't like him? Anyways, nice use of effects top...

  • Oz kicks it old school IDF style. Damn! Oz is giving it to us straight from the Holy Land! That's what i'm talking about. Let's see any of those chumps in Hezbollah play like that! In your face-Go Oz!!!

  • atleast understand what's going on in the music and if you do,then that's a respectable opinion, despite the term "suck" which is a pretty un-articulate way of explaining why something doesn't apeal to you. That's the problem with music in general these days,no one has an educated opinion, nothing, there's way to much bias situated around the main stream. Not to bash main stream, because I love ALOT of music in main stream.

yeah this rant fits in 3 windows

  • I don't understand why everyone needs to say all these amazing musicians suck. There's no "right" or "wrong" way, if you're going to say something sucks,

  • HA I'd LOVE to play with a bass player with that kind of diversity. He's wanking off but he wanks off in such a smooth groovey way.

  • He 'wanks' every night on the Letterman show!

  • No way, the "grizzly man" got eaten by a bear during one of his stays in Alasca. Check out the documentary Werner Herzog made.

  • Nice....

  • Where's HIRAM ??

  • carlock is really great

  • this band sucks..go fuck yourself..

  • that's a frank zappa song you like him too?

  • You my friend, are a twunt

  • Love it. They over played the head but it was very cool

  • Keith Carlock is amazing.

  • Couldn't stand Oz himself, Carlock was excellent and Lee was good. You can watch two more vids from this gig on Keith Carlock's website.

  • What cant you stand about him? He is doing some interesting NEW things up in NYC.

  • Personal preference really. When he does his groove in this, it's nice and tight, his tone is ok... but there's nothing new or interesting about it, it's just "ok". When he branches out into his other sections, I just don't dig them much, they seem abstract, for the sole purpose of being abstract.

  • Ughhhh

  • YES!INTERESTING THINGS CAN STILL HAPPEN TODAY!
