True, Cenk may not have the full story about the riots outside of London, but just from the tone and choice of words made by that lady reporter, one gets a sense of how British minorities are not genuinely granted their full civil rights.
I usually agree with TYT on most issues but this video is seriously off base. Darcus Howe was making absurd points, points not supported by the IPCC investigating the death of Mark Dugan and provably exaggerated - his head was in NO WAY "blown off". The news presenter's question about condoning the violence was poorly thought through but it sounds like she had to decide what to ask on the spot and it was a bit banal. Please research what you comment on more thoroughly in future.
I remember the Los Angeles riots after the Rodney King beating. All the rioters in the first couple hours were POS thugs & deadbeats. As it unfolded, it quickly became obvious that Chief Daryl Gates was holding back the police to show all of us what the Rodney Kings of the world would do law enforcement didn't exist. The kids in London, whatever color & race, didn't give a sh*t about a dead black man, whether he was guilty or not. Opportunism & destruction of the culture, plain & simple.
And why the comments about the police targeting blacks? Because the VAST majority of violent/serious crime in London's deprived areas is black, and particularly black-on-black. London has a huge problem with racial gangs, and it's hardly surprising that the police stop and search more of those who are statistically most likely to be involved in serious crime.
These rioters get thousands of pounds in benefits each year. They get council houses. They get the protection of a fair legal system, an army, and a police force. There were some interesting points made here BUT ultimately the main reason the riots escalated was because youths and yobs saw this as an opportunity. The point I was trying to make is that, at least so far as I see it, the conclusion that this is merely a matter of "disciplining the public more" is WRONG. It tells you that there is a systemic social problem. This problem can justifiably be pinpointed to a widespread sense of helplessness by the youth in the UK because they are being neglected by their governing officials relative to other groups of people in that country. British policy is hugely discriminatory regarding age. It also speaks to the nanny state that now exists.
I think, too that there is a huge systemic social problem in the UK. I usually agree with TYT on most issues but this video is seriously off base. Darcus Howe was making absurd points, points not supported by the IPCC investigating the death of Mark Dugan and provably exaggerated - his head was in NO WAY "blown off". The news presenter's question about condoning the violence was poorly thought through but it sounds like she had to decide what to ask on the spot and it was a bit banal. Please research what you comment on more thoroughly in future.

There were some interesting points made here BUT ultimately the main reason the riots escalated was because youths and yobs saw this as an opportunity. In my view, this had very little to do with the shooting of Mark Duggan. It was simply an excuse to have a go at the government and the Police. Other cities had NO reason to start riots. What I found ironic was that those who were stealing were those without jobs, now they have a criminal record, they have no hope of getting one in the future!

@ZealotsACH The song, as I see it, is about frustration being expressed through violence by those who felt a lack of regard by society for themselves. I don't think it's right or wrong, it just is. These thing happen time and again, and mostly for the same reason. The weight of poverty and stagnation wreak untold havoc upon the human psyche.

As an Englishman, I can tell you 1st hand, the people taking part in the riots are not political philosophers. They are not rioting because of deprivation or because of policing. They are rioting because they have realised they can have stuff for free and they enjoy conflicts with the police and they enjoy damaging property, Watch the footage, they are smiling and laughing, desperate people with a cause don't smile during a riot.

The banks and corporations robbed them of their future, they feel hopeless and that society doesn't care about them. They aren't a political group. It's a mob. Although I can understand the frustration that blacks in the UK feel when they are constantly treated unequally and unjustly looting and rioting is not a way to address the issue. Just as looting and rioting did not solve anything after the Rodney King incident.

In recent days, you could hear a lot of people testify that something is seriously wrong in some areas of the U.K., and a wrong attitude within the police AND government are a big part of it (see bribes / Rupert Murdoch by the way). Don't be so ignorant. It was reported several times that the looters were using blackberry messenger to communicate and let each other know where police presence was low. The same applied to an extent on other social media.
This video is absurd as the man is clearly stuck in the past. This isn't Brixton circa 1981. Also, the rioters were mostly attacking small chains, small businesses, and robbing people in the street. That is NOT political.

One of my fellow residents in Ealing died last night just for trying to put out the fires & was attacked for it.

You're right about one thing; there are factors in society that lead to this. Namely a subset of (mostly) part of a generation of young people who haven't been bought up to respect anything or anyone in society. I truly wish the UK riots were about something meaningful, unfortunately they're not

It tells you that there is a systemic social problem. This problem can justifiably be pinpointed to a widespread sense of helplessness by the youth in the UK because they are being neglected by their governing officials relative to other groups of people in that country. British policy is hugely discriminatory regarding age. It also speaks to the nanny state that now exists.

The gov't in the UK, and more so in the US, works for whoever can fund their campaigns - BANKERS AND FINANCIERS! The people accepted social entitlement programs because they think they benefit from it. However, the more dependent you become on your gov't, the more power you give them. The gov't owns you.
