Everybody says that, Kentaro Miura is still alive. The only thing bad about Berserk is that the speed of which the chapters and volumes come out. The manga started in 1989 and it didnt finish the first arc till 1997. Guess quality takes time eh? Because of this. A recurring joke is that Kentaro Miura the creator of Berserk is old, (around 55 years i think) and that due to the time it takes to produce the chapters he will die before he finishes it. hmm.. read the manga. It may not be philosophical all the time, but many of the governing concepts of the Berserk universe are pretty deep. The explanation for the existence of magic and monsters is pretty was very insightful and actually made sense, rather than some anime that just says "Poof, here's magic, lets duel." Yeah, the violence and gore is over the top, but it is a dark story set in a Medieval setting and with VERY convincing demons and beasts, so do the math

also, the characters go a lot deeper than senseless violence anyway, the mangaka wants you to question weather guts has ever done one thing a generic good guy would do and then he wants you to think 'but why the fuck do I sympathise with him then?'

Berserk never had a real ending, but that was because 1. funding, and then 2. wanted wait for the US to finish translating the manga. Which leads back to #1 lack of funding.

It was a great show other than that. It wasn't like inuyasha that dragged out for 150+ eps, and had no fucking ending.

No, the anime is definately over. The manga, at last count, is at chapter 292 (i think), and if I'm not mistaken, it's still ongoing ^_^

If you're curious, you can find the whole thing for free on most manga sites. the translations are kinda engrish in the begining, but they get a lot better.
