I wanted to finish the below by adding that doing this job increases the humanistic componant - thus increasing the depth of ones art. Your point is well taken though. Just slightly myopic. Thanks for a great post
Yes, very very good point. But if your art doesn't tap into what is popular art (Like yours) , it IS quite difficult, and you do need a second job. Mine is working in Mental Health (I only sell about 20 albums a month on Amazon). Risking sounding cynical, the Doctors I work with have found a way to deal w/ the stresses you mention. Many of them do not care, and switch the difficult work to nurses.
Wow, this made me feel really good about my future. I'm still in high school, and the core academics are really drilled into us. I believe education is something that should be highly prized, but I also believe that we need more focus on liberal arts. I want to go into special makeup effects, but all that anyone (who even knows what that is) will talk about is how competitive the film industry is. This video really helped me feel more confident about my goals.
what about the 40 yr old whos at the end of their rope. i love her lecture she gave at omega but it all seems very geared toward the young artist at the beginning of their careers. wheres the love for the old dreamers?the ones who set out and failed? that said shes awesome, very inspiring.
She's cute. You can be whatever you want to be, but whatever you think you are or want to be is just a delusion and this is the only hard part of it. You are what you are, not what you do, or pretend to be. This is almost impossible to grasp with the mind because it is beyond the mind to realize. But when it happens you can play any role in this life at easy.
When people say "oh, that's going to be hard" about artists/writers/musicians, in my experience they are referring to "hard to earn a living." Doctors earn a very comfortable living, which is why nobody would say that to an aspiring physician. It's purely a financial statement, and nothing to do with how "easy" or "hard" each career is in day-to-day life. I'd love to see a society that honors and supports the arts more so it wouldn't be "hard" for people to pay the bills doing it!
Excellent, and so very true. Art is discouraged and why? It communicates across all barriers, even time. People are not encouraged to believe they can achieve something. We need to relearn that skill.
great interview - I think this is the case no matter what you are called to do. You must follow your calling and if it turns out you made a wrong choice you can deal with it when you get there. Life is about making mistakes and learning from them.
Krista, I think you should write about that "choice" people have to make. When people leave the path or stay on it.

Great video on living your truth! Stop chasing what I think someone wants me to be and start being what I want to be - what resonates with me.
