  • Wow! I hope your mum had a good time at the shop. From the ex-employees I've met, they all had a good time there... and the trips up north seemed a real treat, albeit hardwork.

    I remember (or at least been told about) running awa up to the shop, aged about 4 and getting sweeties. It was a magical shop in my imagination growing up in Australia.

  • Brilliant! My Mum trained as a dressmaker at 'Gordon's Of Alford' & worked for them from age 15 until she was 27 in 1957. She used to travel north with them (as in footage) & she loved those days & the craic up in the wild wooly west.

    I live in Lochinver now with my family & know from some of the older folks up here that remember & loved their visits north!

    As a child I have so many fond memories of visiting your Grandfathers wee emporium - but sadly, shops like his just don't exist anymore!
