Honour Killings: Turkey

so in a population of 70 million about 1000 women are killed by their relatives (it was 60 per year 8 years ago, so the 1400% increase). How many women in the US are killed by their husbands? I bet it is way higher than 5000. So the US is no better. This is not a muslim problem, it is rather a Kurdish problem. Honor killing almost unheard of among ethnic Turks. Big majority of these killing occur among Kurdish people.

The people who carry out and implement this tradition of "honor" form the vast voting base of the current Turkish government. There are even women who support these things. As a Turkish citizen, I can claim that this thing does not happen very commonly, but still it is not insignificant or negligible. Unfortunately, the east part of the country is still very unsophisticated and some parts are still in Middle Age. But there is a vast majority, that has overcome the issues with human rights.

This is a very informative video and one I wished I'd have seen a lot earlier. I salute the women in Diyarbakir who are being so proactive in preventing this brutality towards women. I was a foreign victim of an attempted honour killing in Istanbul. The act was carried out by 2 men from Diyabakir. balcony. These men received no punishment. I too live in fear of their death threats. I thank these ladies for their wonderful work in Diyarbakir
