I have a 2001 ZRX and I love it. When I bought it this august it only had 5500 miles on it and in mint shape but in the month I've owned it I've put over 1000 miles on it. The bike feels like it was built just for me. There is a place in Tennessee in the States called the Dragons Tail that has 318 curves in 11 miles I want to ride this bike on it next season I hope
Hi, good luck with that REX (I have an 03 version myself) but be careful on the Tail of the Dragon...a bunch of overzealous squids have hyped up the law enforcement patrols in the are.Watch your speed.
@gsxrjez The only thing non-stock about the engine at that time was that it had an Akrapovic end can (not even a full system). The bike is still normally aspirated.
@RichardHMorris I thought so, what a potent bike the Rex really is. I've known it from riding one but watching it go head to head with these windemups, it really drives it home.
Ride on man.. Impressive riding on the curvies with our heavy ZRX's.. I got a red one, and I love the broad power band and torque this bike has.. I will never ride anything but a ZRX
thats some kick ass riding.....do u have clip on bars or the stock bars because i was wanting to race my zrx 1100 and was wondering which is better.....thanks
Suspension Settings: Front Front Sag 20mm Rebound 3 clicks from full Compression 5 clicks from full 3 grooves showing on preload. Rear Rear Sag 7mm Rebound No. 2 Compression No. 3 Preload third position
Boy, at 42 seconds it looks like the front end got a little squirrely. Cool bike and mad props for bringing it to the track. You make thrashing 600cc supersport bike look easy.
Tell me how do your bikes handle a track day, I'd loce to take mine but Im concerned i cook them or the back wheel gets to light under heavy breaking and i lose it... lol It happens on normal roads as it is when i give her a carrot and have to break hard the back end floats, I mean she's no ZX6R for example as that is whaat i used to ride 3 months ago.
great ridin! i was trying to decide which bike to buy shortly,a rex or fireblade, you have put my mind at rest,(i used to own a gpz750r lawson rep years ago,no other bike was ever the same for me since,i think the rex will make up for that!) cheers!
Thank you for posting this vid! I've been whooping up on supersports with my GREEN 01 ZRX for years. Amazingly usable power and tranny! Handling is VERY stable as well, though definitely not flickable.
Please keep in mind that a newer supersport with a good rider can eat a ZRX for lunch on the track...fortunately most riders on the street riding the masses of Gixxers and such aren't that good and public roads don't support 14k plus RPM's either.
I try to get my braking over before turning in then keep it neutral through the turn before accelerating on the way out when the bike can then drift out and is starting to stand back up again so there's a greater contact patch.
That was great... I'm not that brave on my bike (2002 ZRX red). It seems like you coasted through the short turns... brought your speed way down before entering the turn, then coaasting, then opening up out of the turn. I've had the rear wheel let loose on turns and it's really made very careful (read: slow) around tight turns.
Oops! I managed to hit "Remove" instead of "Reply" to a comment; sorry! The suspension is standard on my ZRX, just fettled for my size and weight and stiffened for fast road/track use. Another good thing about fully adjustable suspension.
I to have a fll Akropovic system, pushing 129 BHP on the dino. Funny you should mention the R1 because if i do put mine on the track in will be with my mate on his R1, he'll kill as the track is rather BIG with some long straights and a mine shaft of a hill. never the less it will be a good day. i'll let you know. Ill video some of it, with my Dogcam system. Just take forever to download while using a mobile phone as a modem lol. Dean
Just bought a 1100 and joined ZRXOC. Watching this video makes me wonder if the REX is faster than quick track bikes, or if your just a much better rider than these guys. There are spots in the video where it seems like you were about to make up room because of the rex's torque and taller gears. Great Vid!
The Rex's torque does apparently surprise sportsbike riders as they expect to mullah you onto the straights, but the low-down torque drives it out of the corners like a big V.
So I take it there are no issue's with cookingthe breaks etc. I've just moved from warrington to my home town in South Africa and am looking for work. Once I get sorted for work I'll be take my beast out on the track Kyalami. cant wait as i want my mate to take his r1 too
The brakes are very good: more so if you use braided hoses and sintered pads. It'll be no match for an R1 ridden by a rider of similar capability though.
Retitle the video "Good Rider vs Mediocre Riders" to be more accurate. Good riding

Listen closely.... Is it just me or does this bike sound like it has a turbo or super charger? Maybe it's just me but that sounds extremly non-stock

They're OEM bars. I've seen a couple of ZRXs with clip-ons and they seem OK.

Yes, it could probably do with a steering damper for when you're on the power and changing direction.

The ZX6R is a much better track bike than the ZRX, but there's something about muscling it around that makes you grin like a loon.

Nice clip. 2:26 overtaking on the outside and 4:27 smoking the other ZRX onto the straight were my favourite parts. Thanks for the cool video.

No probs. That was a ZX-7R my ZRX was overtaking, though, not another ZRX.

Nice riding mate, enjoyed watching.
Not been Mallory for years, looks tricky on a bike, no real straights so always turning.
Wouldnt mind having a go at that on my 56 ZRX, bought it a month ago and absolutely love it.

You should! I love Mallory.
