  • what if I'm happy to plan it?

  • @Funwithatoms yea, Spike's The Ultimate Fighter

  • Thanks for the video.I wish Bruce Lee would have played the lead role.I think

he came up with the idea

  • it's important to remember that the TAO was NOT written by one man... Rather these werethesayings and teachings of Sages and hermits.. Collected and transcribed by Lao Tszu

  • Always be yourself, express yourself, have faith in yourself, do not go out and look for a successfull personality and duplicate it.

    Bruce Lee

  • @Funwithatoms

You have the wisdom of Solomon. Truely, you are a light for others to follow.

  • @Funwithatoms I believe that the Tao te ching is frequently quoted thought out this series although not necessarily in this particular clip, and the words contained in the Tao te ching are considered by many to be words of great wisdom. Therefore there is a lot of wisdom being communicated in this series, even if you may not enjoy the show.

  • @Funwithatoms If this truly is the case, why did you feel compelled to post a message at all? After all, it was just a silly TV show. Nevertheless, to many Westerners it was our first glimpse into philosophies that were totally unknown to us. You would also be very surprised to hear a mind of an eight year old is very admirable in Taoism, for this is a time before deep social conditioning and egocentricity. With Compassion, Moderation & Humility my friend.

  • @yinyangnature I love the videos you post.

The comment from Funwithatoms is meant to get a rise out of people. People like that are what we call "trolls" . And their purpose is to get people upset to make themselves feel better because they are insecure. I just wanted to let you know.

  • @yinyangnature I had no choice in the matter. My youth was, simply put, hell in the form of chaos. To keep in simple, I used my stubbornness to hold on to my young-child mentality, to a time when I knew nothing, yet learned everything; it was no surprise I uncovered the VERY SAME INFORMATION THAT ALL OF THESE CLIPS DESCRIBE! (Ok, with a -little- more salt then was said... if you know what I mean...). Everything makes sense in the total perspective of it! (And my username has meaning to me, w/o#)

  • Because I always get all my philosophy from 70's TV shows....

  • @scorpius319

If you were hungry would you refuse to eat a piece of bread because the plate is simple and cheap?

  • @WSWarthog

If the bread was moldy and of no nutritional value, sure I would reject it. Come up with another false comparison, oh wise one.

  • @scorpius319

I can't because you undid my last one too easily so now I feel scared ;]

But really, why is it that you consider philosophical precepts from television shows 'moldy' as opposed one form any other source?

  • @WSWarthog

Because You are staring square into a RV show who's man purpose is to provide content worthy enough that advertisers to feel safe enough to allow their commercials to be associated with the show. It. Is. TV!!!! And Hollywood ALWAYS gives realistic depictions of reality. Getting inspired by TV shows is just ridiculous. Reality is to be found elsewhere.

  • @scorpius319

Well of-course it's just a TV show. Fairy tales are just fairy tales in the same way; but people still used them to try and convey some sort of moral precept or other type of message. What really matters is this; does the message match your experience with reality?

  • @WSWarthog Yup, because I always carry more expensive plate with me.

  • Thanks for your commentary and your beautiful expression of the Taoist philosophy.

  • @claudelebel55 You're welcome! (Alias yinyangnature)

  • These videos are wonderful. I love seeing old clips of the old show and your discussions are inspirational. Thank you.

  • this dude needs contacts...now

  • beautiful

  • well as a man i will not cry in front of a woman never, i will go to some hidden place and cry there.

  • The traditional society view not allow men to express their emotions, in my opinion, men's tears usually means real deep from undernneath their heart and it is so precious, I will cherish every drop of men's tears.

  • if your a lady and i am assuming you are, your a very rare type most women do not like men to cry in front of them.

  • @doctorw2 we are all, to a greater or lesser extent, prisonners of the likes and dislikes of others. Tears are natural and come in different flavours - poor-me tears are a reflection ego, but there are tears of compassion, of love and of joy. What do you wish to live by, the likes and dislikes of others or the way nature intended you to be. The results of repression are evident in the insensitivity and violence we see around the world.

  • @doctorw2 gee, I thought it was a man, a rare type of man :)

As for most women, most everyone is taught to repress their tears and so it is that we pick up addictions and violent expressions of all sorts all an expression of the pain within.

  • Society is mere abstraction. It does not exist.

It is a man alone led by his false beliefs that stops him from emoting.

  • @hkking83 a man who represses his tears is doing violence to himself.

  • @doctorw2 this simply means you are ashamed of your natural self expression. You were not born this way and it makes you suffer. There is no freedom in it.

  • This teaching is very similiar to the episode where Caine blindfolds himself and has a contest with three other students as younger disciples watch. As Master Kan approaches he asks Caine have you good cause to risk this danger?Caine says he was testing his agility and courage, The Master says I had already hoped these qualities were already yours. The he goes on to say was this for your benifit or theirs? (We must seek to find the harmony of the birds who sing looking for nothing in return.)

  • I miss David's presence on this Earth...Although it is not gone, the manner of his death leaves me with a great sadness

  • ...DO you follow or live the words of Lao Tze?

  • Ultimately, I think it's better to intuitively feel the spirit of Lao Tzu; in a way that is beyond words, symbols and concepts.

  • @yinyangnature Doesn't Po die though? Or is this another memory of Kaine?

  • True, so true...... every word

  • "the purpose of discipline is to live more fully, not less"...so inspiring

  • Under more info,I quote this:

"It is commonly believed that trusting chance is too risky and success can only be achieved by rigid control."

How would this coexist with e.g. learning to play the classical piano?

Or are we talking about a different kind of "rigid control"?

Or would learning to play advanced classical pieces on e.g. the piano, not be considered as a "success"?

  • How would you prefer to learn classical piano? Would you prefer to learn it in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere or would you prefer it beaten into you by a very mean spirited individual? I guess in either instance one will eventually become a proficient pianist, but which method is more likely to produce someone who experiences music as a deeply spiritual experience?

Music should always be about enjoyment and not rigid control. After all, we say play the piano, not work the piano.

  • @yinyangnature I am glad to have come across this, your words inspire me friend :)

  • @MrEffTee Thank you!

  • Something strangely soothing about this.

  • Not all emotions show a sign of weakness, but most of them do.

  • I think it's very important to pursue the 'Middle Way' in all things my friend.

Too much emotion can be just as bad as too little. There is a time for showing emotion, at a funeral for example and a time for not showing it, when confronted by a bully. But everything has its place, so we should never say never.

P.S. Personally I just wish I didn't cry when I watched sad movies. I find it very embarrassing! :-)

  • But sometimes, showing emotion to a bully (e.g. sorrow, pity, compassion, determination) can resolve issues without fighting.

  • Crying can often be very therapeutic, allowing one to recover and move on. Preventing yourself from expressing your pain may actually prolong your suffering. As Master Po said in this clip, "Let tears and joy come unplanned" then one may forget one's deepest pain and continue to grow.

  • No one can deny their emotions indefinitely my friend. They are a very important part of being human. Otherwise you will simply be a stone Buddha and not a living one.

  • @TheDamnedKing this is called repression and the sense of vulnerability is simply a reflection of an inner conflict, some part of you that feels unwanted and unloved. It will continue to shout and scream until you embrace it.

  • I cried today and it helped a lot, its a human nesesity.

  • RIP...

  • sharing emotions in our culture can be very dangerous sadly.

  • Very true - however, the world as a whole is not a spiritual place. Spirituality is expressed within the heart of an individual. What is true, is that only a few see this light. For the others, one can only prey that they see this light. No need to be sad. Be grateful that you make this distinction.

  • ご冥福をお祈りします。

  • Thank you!

  • i need to see this tv show!

  • It's available on DVD.

  • RIP David Carradine

    you will be missed.

  • This show changed my life when I was a 11 years old little boy. Thank you so much to post theses videos.

  • This is my favourite TV show of all times, I use to watch it when I was 11, I have been looking for it for long time, specially for the spiritual teaching at Xiao Lin, and you have put all together, thank you so much.

  • "through discipline comes freedom"

  • I did not get it..

In these days how can we be without looking for joy? otherwise we will be imprisoned in a monotonous life.

  • Life is both tears and laughter my friend. If we never had tears how would we recognise the value of laughter?

We must also recognise the wisdom that often comes through our disappointments. How could we have empathy for the pain of others without knowing of pain ourselves? From suffering comes compassion.

Wanting only joy without pain is like asking for the yin without the yang. Or summer without winter; up without down; in without out; day without night; or life without death.

  • When I was a kid - I think around 6 years old - I remember seeing this sries screened for the first time (in UK). Even then, it was the only TV programme I would come running in off the streets for (those days it was pretty much safe to play on the streets). Once a week, without fail. I loved the philosophy. Now I am a lot older and I am sharing these teachings via these videos with someone who is a lot younger than me but very close to me in heart and soul. Nameste to you too, my friend.

  • Your childhood story is very similar to mine. Namaste to you also.

  • Thank you for the KUNG FU videos! All I can say is: The Tao of Kung Fu #19 - "Let tears and JOY come unplanned."

  • Congratulation's my friend i found my way in life with tao, is like i understand life or should i say life understand's me? Everyday everymorning i smile, thank you so much!!

  • i have to post something. I am a zen monk from the states training in a monastery in Japan , in my forth yr here. It would be not untrue to say watching this as a kid and over the yrs did not , among many other things , guide me in this direction. I have only a rare oppourtunity to check out the internet , but since I found somebody has been so generously posting these "gems" , I check them when ever I can. I'm as moved as ever by it. thankyou !

  • Thank you. It's so great to hear from someone who is living the dream or should I say, waking up from it. Nameste my friend

  • Keep posting these videos, they are gems that I enjoy immensely

  • Beautiful insight.

  • thanks

  • This is fantastic!

  • So wise...

  • Thank you for posting these great Kung Fu clips and providing some excellent commentary!

  • Thank you! It's nice to know someone is reading the commentary.

  • I learned about the channel through your post on the Tea House forum; I'm very interested in Taoist philosophy, and appreciate any help along the path :-)

  • It's always great to met a friend from the Tea House. Have you visited my web site?

  • I've clicked on your site, but haven't gone through much yet. I will in time :-)

My other passion is peace and personal liberty (including the work of Ron Paul), and a lot of my time has been spent promoting material in that realm. Perhaps it's time to back off from that a bit to continue my path toward understanding and living Taoist philosophy.
