dude those guys are awsome just need a little me whiskey added but for french not bad at all i have to do this song at the first of the night or other wise i end up kissing the floor
The East Texas variant is a toe-slide right-left, slidestep right, toe-slide left-right, slidestep left, right foot cross over the knee, left foot cross over the knee, 4 jog kicks starting with the right foot and then a half-turn left right foot stomp then left foot stomp, and then one more half-turn left with the 1-2 stomps. And then you hop up and repeat the cycle. Hope that helps some people out.
this is awesome... i know the arkansas verison i guess its pretty plain and basic.. the guy in black is doing it awesome... i wanna learn this version!
Except for the extra hand-to-the-floor and the kicks (hitch-step instead), this is the (very old) standard 24 step line-dance "Kentucky Chug" (unknown choreographer, and often called Copperhead Road), danced to "Copperhead Road" by Steve Earle.
But variation is the rule for line-dancing. It's like the old game of passing a story around in a circle - person-to-person; the facts are way different by the time you go around once. The rules are: don't crash, do enjoy.
I would have to agree. I know two ways to dance to this song. This is one way (minus the whole hitting the ground thing) the other way I have yet to see on youtube, but it is just as upbeat, if not more then this one, I prefer the second but it is difficult.
"Copperhead Road" tells of a Vietnam War veteran, scion of a rural moonshine bootlegging clan, who returns home to Johnson County, Tennessee Straight from wikipedia lol
I like this dance...but here in Jackson tennessee he teach the Schottische to this song beginers because its slower that the usual songs for the Schottische.
OMG this is my fav video for this dance...im from Chicago area and this isnt how its done here but its still the most popular line dance out my way!! And if any of the hot cowboys in this video wanna give me a shout....
Thanks again for being on top of this. NO, it may have nothing to do with the song, but the name Copperhead Road (which I understand is a real road) must have been named after something. If it has nothing to do with stills, I'd bet on the snake. anyhow, not an earthshaking issue. The song is great and this version of the dance is also.
It occurred to me the "copperhead" might also refer to the still, rather than local snakes. Song does mention Granddaddy buying copper line. Does anyone know?
i live in SC and we have the "simplified" version. i watch this video all the time its effing awesome!!!!!!! I'm gonna teach it to my friends at cowboys
I loved this video, wish it was all there! The cowboys are looking mighty fine with their kick there and when they touch the ground. We do this line dance in Oklahoma! Very similiar but haven't seen them doing all that! I'm loving it though!
I thought I posted a reply to your comment but don't see it. Didn't mean to criticize YOU for videotaping a fragment of the dance. I thought the dancers did the videotaping and wondered why they didn't tape the whole dance, it's so good. I think the song has nothing to do with copper or mining. Copperhead is the name of a snake that lives in the Southern U.S. The road probably was named after that. The song is about making moonshine liquor.
Hello Thank you for the comment, I filmed this sequence the last year in the festival country in august " Bains de Bretagne" in France. The dancers don't say to me where this came variant Copperhead road but that practice is now very frequent in our country . It may to be the mime of child labor copper? I hope that , may be, the dancers write , one day their own "commentaire" about that . ;-)
Are there only TWO versions of this? I'd think there would be others. There seem to be various versions of most line dances, sometimes designated beginner, intermediate, advanced. The CH Road dance I learned is much simpler than this and not as challenging, just four step-kicks and two stomps and a quarter turn. It feels like a war dance. Some guys say they want to fight someone after they dance this, and isn't that the purpose of a war dance? I want to know what they are shouting.
This version of the dance rocks and the guys at right are very good! Just wish the whole song was here! Who are they and why don't they put out a full version? Whoo!
Wow! This is really really good! I hadn't seen this version either, those quicks are grreat. And I agree with chevy girl, black shirt cowboy is looking fiiine with those moves
There we go, finally the real dance. The other version sucks and it was made by people who couldn't learn this one. If you don't know the real dance, just sit this song out and let the people who do know it have the floor. Those kicks are great.
there are different variations to ways people dance it and this one is very good!!! I have seen something like this in Houston, TX but usually its so packed people just do it the watered down version. They did an awesome job, especially the guy in the black shirt...go COWBOY!!!
FINALLY This is the only video so far I've seen that do the kick with it too. That's the way I learned and I haven't seen anyone do it. You guys are good.
dude those guys are awsome just need a little me whiskey added but for french not bad at all i have to do this song at the first of the night or other wise i end up kissing the floor

@KaraokeSC I recall folks in Kentucky & Tennessee doing the kick but not the hand-to-floor whenever I saw Copperhead Road performed for line dances.
