The part where the gas station exploded is to show how the ps3 cell proccessor would handle visual effects and physic that is simulate to real life which the xbox 360 can never handle. This is from the wiki.

this is all real,the animation is done by jimjagger from Londonstudioes.This project has been canceled by sony europe due to lack of budget.Apparently it was one of the most expensive project..
