  • im very sorry that i pissed everyone of with my comment ;) im just such a mazda fan, and i just hate it when people just ADD more weight even if it gives more performence. its just not the point of an mx5 ;)

  • I say there needs to be a Turbo f20c conversion !! ot a k24a2 conversion

  • what kind of mpg are you getting on this thing?

  • Comment removed

  • hi i plan to swap an LS1 in my TVR Chimaera.how hard was it to fit in an MX5 and how much did it affect the handling do u guys use the original gearbox which came with the engine ???tks for ur help

  • yeah the way it should feel :S dude, u only messed up the perfect handeling an weight distribution by throwing to much weight in the front. put in a 13B and will talk again;

  • @Ninosilvio: weight distribution is essentially unchanged. Scroll down to read comments from the builder. The video in this car was his first build. Since then he has built four more. Each one sold fairly quickly.

  • @BoiceInTheHood

let him build one with a 13b and let those 2 race :)

  • @Ninosilvio ROTARY ENGINES SUCK!!!!!!!!!! They have NO (i repeat NOOOO) power low to mid range! He made a good choice.

  • @Powersproductions130

but it runs on double cream ;) you HAVE to REV the shit out of these engines, thats what makes them good ;)

  • @BoiceInTheHood I wonder if the all Aluminum V8 part has anything to do with that. lol. Anyways, looks like fun. I wish my miata had a v8

  • @Ninosilvio your a retard. you know nothing research your shit before looking retarded. ls1 engines that people swap in only weigh 40 more pounds than the 4 cylinder

  • @Ninosilvio I think the LS1 swaps with all the bracing and beefed up drivetrain only adds 150lbs total to the car. And seeing as you need to beef up the diff and driveshaft, not all that weight is in the front. The original ironblock is quite heavy. Anyway I think a miata would be better suited with a naturally aspirated 20B than a 13B.

  • I've seen the remote turbos you're talking about, in 2 corvettes once. I think the LSx is enough... would be for me. with a turbo it would be what... 600hp? in 2500lbs of car!! LOL, it would be nuts.

  • Although do love these V8 Miatas they do lose the point of a Miata and are not how a Miata Should be.

A Miata (mx5) is about good, clean, cheap fun or that at least was the intentions of the designers originaly. A 5.0L v8 Miata isn't far off this if compared to a mustang though.

  • mx5's arent cheap now days lol hav eyou looked at a new mx5 pricings?

regardless, people like miats for its handling

  • @dirtmerchant18 Quoted from my own comment " that at least was the intentions of the designers originaly"

  • Wow that is crazy mad props. I think you should find a way to supercharge it... That would wicked awesome... I would have said turbo first but that would be weird haven't a V8 turbo...

  • how is it weird, well not weird to me i think a turboed v8 would be easier to do, you could do a remote turbo system so you would have more room in the engine compartment at least, with the supercharger u would have to make room.

  • i am Pakistani American, and i like import cars, but their is nothingg like the AMERICAAN V8

and when put into a lighter Japaneses chassis the possibility are ENDLESS

  • except for wieght distro balance and the fact that it now sounds like a motor boat.

  • Weight distribution and balance don't get affected that much. Check other videos of monster miatas on the track, they handle very well and it sounds like a V8 miata to me not a motorboat.

  • @JUNENFIONA looks like you haven't a damn clue about the swap. most of them come in at close to 50/50 with barely any weight gained (the LSx swaps).

also anyone who thinks that 50/50 weight distribution automatically means a good handling car is a fucking idiot

  • Oh man, it sounds like a shitty v8, what is wrong with you man?

  • Here's some more information on it:

"...this engine was rebuilt from a 91 Mustang GT but retains little of the original motor. The block was bored to 306, blueprinted and flatdecked to create higher comp. The heads were upgraded with stiffer springs and a multi-angle valve job so that they flow on the bench like a stock GT-40's. The stock cam was replaced with a E-303 and the entire intake is from a Lincoln MKVII (60mm). Horsepower is about 250 at the rear wheels."

  • I didn't know putting a 5.0L V8 in a space designed for less than 2.0L was something lazy people do.

Lazy is a cold air intake, rims and a body kit.

  • Comment removed

  • for sure im doing one without a kit dont imagin with the kit would be a weekend job or anything im thinkin either way its a large undertaking considering you replace the entire drivetrain along with many other parts its like putting a big block in a mini van

  • @trogdorpontiac I'll only do the C.A.I.... not because im lazy, because im broke D:

  • Werd the fuck up. Americans are too fucking stupid to understand Wankels. 13B w a nice turbo would own this fucking POS set up.

  • You're a bigot and an idiot.

  • You're a fucking pussy.

  • Oh...and a white trash American. Go fuck yourself with a pushrod pussy.

  • Thanks for proving my point that you're a bigot and an idiot. For a 31 year old you sure act immature. Go take your low-IQ idiocy elsewhere, loser.

  • As you for proving mine...you're a fucking cunt. Just STFU already you pussy ass bitch.

  • C'mon guys -- you're getting too personal about this stuff. Albeit Miatas are cool cars, but they're cars nonetheless. People have different tastes, and the "now" thing in cars is personalizing them, which is where this V8 project came from. V8's are not for everyone, and that's fine. 20BMX5 -- I'm not into American cars either -- but you gotta respect people's likes, dislikes, and opinions. I have a lot of buddies who love their Fords, and it's cool, but I'd never own one. . .

  • Werd. Still sacreligious. I personally like Mustangs. I wanna do a 2J swap in one. lol

  • Nice! I plan to build one next summer. But I plan to have it straight pipe lol. It need to be waaayyy louder than this hehe. Just curious tho... what kind of muffler do you have on right now?

  • Nothing like the sound of an American V-8.

I own two Miatas and would love to do this to one of them.

  • Do a Wankel instead. Almost as reliable as a POS American engine too!

  • @Dangerousrobb How much is the conversion?

  • to quiet make it louder! and the company was called monster motorsports.. im debating right now to sell my mustang shell and do this... hello ferreri slayer!

  • Typical stupid fucking American. It's "Ferrari" dipshit.

  • You are the supid one here. What country are you from?

So you do like Mustangs? By your logic that must mean you are trash. But everyone here already knew that :)

  • I heard that Linda Ronstadt owns three Mustangs: a 1967, a 1998, and a 2006. They are all inspected and ready for the road at any time. . .

  • i like the sound, you can still catch the people who can't recognize a v8 idle off guard.

  • What shops do the conversion?? These things look awesome to drive. Nothing like a V8 in a tiny car. I want mine supercharged.

  • There used to be a company out in California that did about 30 a year -- forget the name -- but they went outta business. Now I guess it's just dudes like Jayson hooking it up in their garages. . .

  • How do these things handle once u drop a v8 under the hood?

  • probably about the same as if you had an adult passenger in your car. ie, no huge noticeable difference.

  • Did u ever drive one? Just wondering because I would think it would make a pretty noticeable difference. If you have an adult passenger in your car they are not sitting on the front axle. Plus an iron block iron headed v8 has to weigh somewhere around twice as much a 4 cylinder with an aluminum head.

  • A Fully dressed 5.0 v8 is around 120lbs more than the 1.6/1.8. Add aluminum heads to the 5.0 and you drop about 50lbs from that.

  • Wow.. that's it? I thought it would be pretty much more than that.

  • Not only that, they do a 0-60 in about 4.7 and can take a SERIOUS beating.

  • its pretty funny, if you see the engines side by side, they are almost the same size. It blew my mind. The main difference is the head size.

  • no wonder jimmy is having a good time there is no female in the car haahahahaahgah

  • too bad the gas tanks are a little small...i did have a 97 m-edition till a dumbass woman ran into the back of me and made me hit the car in front of me yesterday at a red light...its totaled...my roll bar probably save the rear end from crunchin

  • Damn. Sorry to hear about that, Mike! Sounds like you're OK, though. . .

Get another one and save the wreck for parts? ? ?

  • yeah im alright besides a pump knot on my head from hittin my roll bar...didnt have any aftermarket parts except for cat-back exhaust from MTX...and it got snapped from the axle-back :( i loved that car too

  • Listen -- I hope insurance is taking care of you on this otherwise. . .

Where do you live at, dude? Are you in PA?

Might be able to help you find another one :-)

  • oh it is :) i live in NC..in the foothills

  • "Holy Crap!" ^_^

  • I gots to get me one of these.

  • It's all about home build Street mashines, no Non-sense 4our banger bull shit.

  • A 400hp Turbo 1.8L is how a Miata should feel.

  • what all do you have to change aside from the engine? axel? tranny?

  • "Replace the transmission with a Mustang's T-5 trans. and the rear differential with a mid-90's Thunderbird's 7.5 inch unit w/ limited slip. Axles are custom made to fit the Miata but are much thicker than stock. The radiator also needs upgrading to a larger capacity aluminum race radiator; the front springs are also upgraded to handle the increased weight of the engine. Original front springs are moved to the back to provide more support for the heavier rear end."

  • "Pre-1994 Miatas also have to have the brakes upgraded to at least 1994 spec size although many people opt for a full custom big brake kit."

  • I have a '91 turbo'd miata producing about 240hp/225ft-lb at the wheels and have loved it that way for years... but I've driven a friend's 5.0L/302 miata and I'm out to do the same as soon as I can afford it ($ and time). The weight imbalance of having a V8 is a total fallacy. Vehicle weight went up less than 150lbs and the dist went up 1 point. 53/47 vs 52/48 (when he had a turbo before). It handles like a dream. Torque on demand. Sounds fantastic. It's the way a miata should feel!

  • Comment removed

  • Does the V8 not wreck the handling of the Miata? It was designed so the centre of gravity was in the middle...slap a V8 in it and that concept is out the window.

  • Here's what Jayson said:

"Find someone who will let you drive his and then try to make that comment. The Miata as is has 51 front, 49 rear weight distribution. With the V8 with iron head the weight shifts one percent to the front. That is still better than any Mustang, Camaro, or any front drive "tuner" car. It's even better than an AC Cobra from the sixties. If you sub out the iron heads for aluminum your right back to where you started: 51, 49."

    --Jayson

  • corvette killer?

  • Yeah that was harsh, my bad, I'm a purist I guess you could say, so this obviousely annoyed me.

    take care.

  • It's cool, man. You have some nice favorites on your page. You need to get a camera for your ride and those of your friends. . .

  • POS

  • Sorry you feel that way, yo. Maybe someday if you get some videos posted -- instead of like 284 favorites -- I can comment on your vids (?). Or maybe not. . .

  • lmao. i cant wait to v8 my miata.
