4wd cars don't have a parking brake front and back. I bet the fronts locked up because its a front wheel drive and in park, the back is locked up because the parking brake is on.

Second, there is not a parking brake any where but the rear axle.
Third, if I wanted to get your car, it is gone is 20 seconds.
@JusmeAndy How can you have a car gone in 20 seconds when you don't even know what kind of car it is. That is a 1997 - 2000 Toyota RAV4. It is all wheel drive. He should have used dollies!
@1HotLegendLS - If you have the right tools and knowledge to disconnect the rear drive shaft is 8 to 10 seconds, unlocking it and taking off the parking brake, 6 seconds and the car should already be lifted and secured on the left wheel only for another 4 to 5 seconds.
@JusmeAndy - One more thing, since you mentioned that this is a Toyata Rav4, if you are willing to take an extra 30 seconds or a total of 40 to 50 seconds and have a sling truck, you can simply sling it, open the car, remove the brake, use the override for the transmission, place it in neutral, if an automatic or put it in neutral for a standard then drive away without damaging the tranny.
After you are in a safe spot, just put it on dollys for the rest of the trip.

this isn't the first idiot. my brothers yota pickup (not tied down) slid off the back of a ice covered flat bed at 45 mph ,in park, locked in 4wheel drive, with 31" tires. it destroyed the tranny, bent the steering, and hit a parked car! they tried denying it but it was caught on his work's security camera. he ended up sueing the shit out of the city, the best part was the truck was legaly parked, and illegaly towed! woops!

Its easy to stop towing...just buy a wheel clamp and put a lawyer sticker on your car. Then rig the gas tank to the cell phone and connect the terminals. When your car is stolen by the towing company if they bypass the wheel clamp....call the cell number and the car explodes. Problem solved. Say that they destroyed the car and you will get a brand new shiny car.
Point is what you said doesnt make sense or work. For example rigging a gas tank to a cell phone and connecting terminals in any manner will not cause an explosion. that only happens in the movie. But, however, I do appreciate your point.
Applying the parking brake only applies the brakes to the rear wheels. The reason the front wheels aren't moving is the fact that the vehicle is front wheel drive and is in park. Dont these guys have Dolly wheels for towing 4 wheel drives. They are a great invention. Put them on one axle and strap car to them then lift the other end. Or why didnt they just use a slide and tilt truck as these Toyotas are full time 4 wheel drive normally. Or if all else fails do what i have done before. Lift the car climb underneith and disconnect the prop shaft it takes a bit longer but saves destroying the customers car. Great video just cant belive some recovery drivers are so crazy.

As a tow truck driver...i can say that this dude has no dea what he's doing, a rav 4 needs to be hooked from the front, or go on a flatbed if its AWD. but dont blame the tow company if you get towed, the city makes the parking ordinances and you can obey them or violate them.
I quite agree with you Aviator664. The government or local government make the rules and put up appropriate signage/road markings to signify a no-parking zone. The driver has the choice to obey or violate. I believe it is ridiculous to criticise tow truck drivers for your own mistake. On the same breath, the local authorities should be verifying the skills & knowledge of the tow truck drivers they employ/contract. Their goal is to enforce the law not damage/destroy personal property surely.

Just FYI, the parking brake is only on the rear wheels. Assuming it's an automatic, all the drive wheels are locked by the transmission when the car is in 'Park'. But no doubt this tow truck driver is an ass clown.

Dont these guys have Dolly wheels for towing 4 wheel drives. They are a great invention. Put them on one axle and strap car to them then lift the other end. Or why didnt they just use a slide and tilt truck as these Toyotas are full time 4 wheel drive normally. Or if all else fails do what i have done before. Lift the car climb underneith and disconnect the prop shaft it takes a bit longer but saves destroying the customers car. Great video just cant belive some recovery drivers are so crazy.

author's stupid comments just amuse me. I have two 4x4's and each have the parking brake on the back ONLY. Unless I engage the transfer case the front wheels are free.

As a tow truck driver...i can say that this dude has no dea what he's doing, a rav 4 needs to be hooked from the front, or go on a flatbed if its AWD. but dont blame the tow company if you get towed, the city makes the parking ordinances and you can obey them or violate them.

I quite agree with you Aviator664. The government or local government make the rules and put up appropriate signage/road markings to signify a no-parking zone. The driver has the choice to obey or violate. I believe it is ridiculous to criticise tow truck drivers for your own mistake. On the same breath, the local authorities should be verifying the skills & knowledge of the tow truck drivers they employ/contract. Their goal is to enforce the law not damage/destroy personal property surely.

this looks like a repo to me. the description is wrong on the vid. there is no such thing as all wheel brake. the only reason the front wheels lock up is because its a toyota rav4 which is awd but mostly fwd. the rear wheels do turn but more than likely the break is on. yes the guy should have just dollied it. there is no way around that with a rav4

Lots of drivers are just too damn lazy to throw dollies! Point is, dude shoulda quit tryin if he didn't know what he was doing, which was obvious. If ya didn't have the equipment or the know how to do it right, then ya shoulda left it alone! If it were my car that got treated like that, I'd have the companies butt in a sling. I worked for tow companies and drove for them, so I know how it's supposed to be done and this definitly wasn't it. But it was fun to watch!

It looks like a Rav4. 50/50 shot if its NOT AWD and this one appears to be AWD. So I agree with the other comments. Dollies? Hell I got them on my hide-a-way sling. Trust me they come in handy!

this is a repo. and to the poster of the vehicle, they dont have a parking brake on all wheels. the only reason it would squeal is due to the awd system and its diffs. the parking break is only on 1 rear wheel. a city contracted tow truck driver would of had wheel lifts

and yes it is legal to break into cars if your extracting them from either city streets or private property as long as your towing the car u can do whatever it is u need to do to extract that vehicle without damaging it mind u within the oundaries of the law of course

Just FYI, the parking brake is only on the rear wheels. Assuming it's an automatic, all the drive wheels are locked by the transmission when the car is in 'Park'. But no doubt this tow truck driver is an ass clown.
