People who are scared of guns are just uneducated. They dont realize that just because someone owns a gun doesnt mean they are gonna end up shooting up a school or someone. Gun owners usually are responsible people who use their firearms safely and responsibly. I live in alaska and i dont know anyone who doesnt own 5+ guns including myself. They all take gun ownership seriously and they dont dick around with them. I worked at a shooting range too and there never was an accident.

when you buy a gun brand new from a store. they take your information and do a background check, and then the store keeps a database of sales registry with the gun's information, for tax purposes (which CAN be used in law enforcement investigations)) due to the background check, you cant pick up your gun for 3 days.
the gun show loophole has no checks. i believe this policy should require them. BUT, not be used as a tracking method for 2nd hand sales

These checks can be as quick as 15min and I have always walked out the same day with my purchased firearms from dealers. The loophole that they are talking about is buying a gun from a private citizen i.e. you selling one of your old guns to a friend. or because you need money. By requiring private sellers to have a background check the government is effectively banning private sales.

Just think, do you think selling privately without checking makes it almost as easy for a criminal to buy from a smuggler? You can't deabared law gabidingun owners from their rights when they buy their firearms at official gunstores or gunshow or thugs who commit their crime with weapons from illegal traffics.
At the gun show in my city you need proof of your right to bare arms (blue card) or else they would conduct a three day hold to ensure you were not a criminal. I suppose you could try to cheat the system through having someone else buy a gun for you, but if you committed a crime with that gun the person who bought it would get the blame. I don't think many would want to take that risk for nothing. Furthermore, the gun show is not any less safe than buying a gun from Walmart.
@mega4s1000 Not every American is obsessed with private gun ownership, and not every American owns a gun. Owning a gun for the purposes of hunting, marksmanship or just collection has become a tradition in some families. Self-defense is also a legitimate.

@kojiwoji If it's for collection, I don't see what the point in buying ammunition is. And if it's for hunting or marksmanship, there are other ways. You don't need a personal handgun. You can use something like an airsoft or paintball gun for marksmanship. And you don't need an automatic rifle to hunt.

A good gun collector that has used firearms fires that weapon every now and then to test its functionality. And automatic weapons aren't legal for ownership unless you have a federal permit to purchase and own them. Pretty sure that dissects your point.

I don't see a need really for three. Like you said, if you're testing your gun, why do you need so many bullets? Why not just 1?
@kmartmask It's not even a scope anything in regards to marksmanship, you obviously lack firearm experience if you fail to understand the massive difference. There also comes into play something else. Testing firearms, requires MULTIPLE constant firings to properly zero a weapon, adjust the firing mechanism etc. Why 30 bullets ready? Here's an idea, looks up some home invasion videos where the owner had 30 bullets ready to go and armed men were storming his house. Those 30 bullets saved him.

And I'd like to point out how statistically low of a probability it is that your house is going to be stormed by armed men. In fact, it's such a low chance that it's stupid to bring it up. And unless you're well trained with a firearm, which I doubt many owners are, you're still as good as dead.

And for scopes, a paintball gun or airsoft does not appropriately compensate for real time firearms marksmanship. It's very much so a sport, and can't be supplemented in this instance by a "scope"

when you buy a gun brand new from a store. they take your information and do a background check, and then the store keeps a database of sales registry with the gun's information, for tax purposes (which CAN be used in law enforcement investigations)) due to the background check, you cant pick up your gun for 3 days.
the gun show loophole has no checks. i believe this policy should require them. BUT, not be used as a tracking method for 2nd hand sales

These checks can be as quick as 15min and I have always walked out the same day with my purchased firearms from dealers. The loophole that they are talking about is buying a gun from a private citizen i.e. you selling one of your old guns to a friend. or because you need money. By requiring private sellers to have a background check the government is effectively banning private sales.

This happened to a woman once who's ex-husband made good on a threat to kill her. She tried to get a gun, but she had to do the waiting period. She was approved for the gun, but by then, she was dead. But, at least she didn't go through that evil loophole, right?
Besides, background checks don't take that long to run. You can have someone's BG in less than 24 hours!

The entire point of doing these background checks and such ARE TO PREVENT MORE PEOPLE WHO HAVE A CRIMINAL HISTORY FROM OBTAINING FIREARMS. It's shouldn't make it much harder for citizens, unless you have something to hide, but it will make it harder from criminals. More guns = more gun-related crimes.

@nousername789123456 Private sales of guns, between two people without checking the background of the person purchasing, is what they're trying to stop, in order to prevent more criminals from obtaining firearms easily. Just think, do you think selling privately without checking makes it almost as easy for a criminal to buy from a smuggler? The person may be somebody who is a a gun enthusiast, or looking for weapon for self-defense, or some criminal who just got out of jail, looking for revenge.

At the gun show in my city you need proof of your right to bare arms (blue card) or else they would conduct a three day hold to ensure you were not a criminal. I suppose you could try to cheat the system through having someone else buy a gun for you, but if you committed a crime with that gun the person who bought it would get the blame. I don't think many would want to take that risk for nothing. Furthermore, the gun show is not any less safe than buying a gun from Walmart.

@mega4s1000 Not every American is obsessed with private gun ownership, and not every American owns a gun. Owning a gun for the purposes of hunting, marksmanship or just collection has become a tradition in some families. Self-defense is also a legitimate.
Sure you could take them away and supposedly no one will have to worry about them. But then people will just resort to more brutal ways of murder and coercion (axes,hammers,machettes).
On a side note i'd rather get shot than axed. :P

@kojiwoji If it's for collection, I don't see what the point in buying ammunition is. And if it's for hunting or marksmanship, there are other ways. You don't need a personal handgun. You can use something like an airsoft or paintball gun for marksmanship. And you don't need an automatic rifle to hunt.

A good gun collector that has used firearms fires that weapon every now and then to test its functionality. And automatic weapons aren't legal for ownership unless you have a federal permit to purchase and own them. Pretty sure that dissects your point.

I don't see a need really for three. Like you said, if you're testing your gun, why do you need so many bullets? Why not just 1?

@kmartmask It's not even a scope anything in regards to marksmanship, you obviously lack firearm experience if you fail to understand the massive difference. There also comes into play something else. Testing firearms, requires MULTIPLE constant firings to properly zero a weapon, adjust the firing mechanism etc. Why 30 bullets ready? Here's an idea, looks up some home invasion videos where the owner had 30 bullets ready to go and armed men were storming his house. Those 30 bullets saved him.

And I'd like to point out how statistically low of a probability it is that your house is going to be stormed by armed men. In fact, it's such a low chance that it's stupid to bring it up. And unless you're well trained with a firearm, which I doubt many owners are, you're still as good as dead.

@kmartmask That so? Tell ya what, look up what happened in the UK when they took the mass majority of the population's guns away. Deaths by violent crimes increased by 400% the following year. A weapon is as much a deterrent to something happening as it is to resolving the issue if it happens. So your quip in that sense is completely pushed aside with those common sense facts.
Also, care to tell those that have experienced home invasions that their chances of it happening....

@kmartmask ...to them is extremely low? Well, have fun with that one. Many a time a personal handgun with the proper license to carry has kept myself safe as well as several of my friends and family members who have similar licenses. Once again, life experiences remove your point altogether.
And for scopes, a paintball gun or airsoft does not appropriately compensate for real time firearms marksmanship. It's very much so a sport, and can't be supplemented in this instance by a "scope"

You have to go through firearms training courses in how to properly care for and handle your weapon. So, yes, anyone that legally owns has more than enough actual training to use it effectively.

*Marksmanship is a sport and hobby. Telling me to use a paintball or airsoft gun is like me telling you to play badminton instead of tennis when you want to play a racquet sport. They're similar, but it's not the same.
*You're right, you don't need an automatic rifle to hunt. I did touch on self-defense in my original comment. You definitely could use an automatic rifle for self-defense.

Congress has power to make any necessary laws, and today is a bit different from 234 years ago.
