I think that if we left Iraq we'd create a vacumn. Once we leave, the Iraquis will be forced to take responsibility of their country, or else a dictator will step in, or else (unlikely) it will enter long-term anarchy like somalia. Each morning the Iraqis have a choice when they get out of bed, either pick up arms and shoot someone or live a peace. Our being there serves nothing more than a distraction. If the Iraqis see our leaving as an opportunity to escalate the violence, this is again by their choice. Theirs is a very religious culture. We will soon see how well that religion serves them.

The Iraqi civilians are the people that are getting killed the most. And most (90% according to what I saw on CBS news) are being killed by insurgents. Leaving before the Iraqi army is strong to defend the new government is going to make things even much worse then they are now. And would probably result in a complete collapse government.
