  • LOOK! IT'S MARTY!

  • amazing!

  • your awsome

  • I Loveeeeeeeeeeeeee you!

  • marty, this may seem like a stupid question, but i cant find the answer anywhere...okay. when you play the scales how are those scales extended? like how do they tie into the original scale? how do you know those notes fit?? and also how do you play the scales all up and down the neck, and make them fit..obviously you cant just use the scales anywhere to make them fit into the songs your playing....right??

  • @comradeXD im having the same issues.. care to answer for us?

  • @comradeXD

major and minor pentatonic scales use the same five positions for all keys.

Get martys e-book. Its all in there!

    Hope it helps!!!

  • @comradeXD The easy answer to those question is that they are the same five notes (six if you include the blues note) repeated over and over. There are five basic positions - each containing roughly two octaves of the pentatonic scale - and Marty is showing you one path through several of those positions. That's how the notes fit, because they are the same notes in different registers. He is covering more than three octaves in pitch from the low end of the run to the high end.

  • tnx for the jam track marty . ;)

  • @testicles213 if you know how to read tab guitar pro has a good version of it

  • i realy wanna see a lesson on "let me hear you scream

  • hey Marty. it looks like you stole Ralph Nachos guitar. lol sounds great.

what year is that? looks pretty new. do you like the Maple Fret Boards more than the ebony ones? I have always loved the look of the Maple, but I like the sound of the Ebony more.

  • Marty when the lesson on the head nad face movment? Great love good blues!! Thank's have a gnarly day

  • I love how you rolled onto Black Dog be the awesome Led Zeppelin! you're great at guitar and have a natural way of doing lessons! thanks!

  • @tylord97 i mean by lol

  • Poptop22 is right. Pentatonic scales (usually minor pentatonic) scales can be used over Minor Blues progressions or major blues progressions.

    Big Ron

  • I's based on the extension of the blues scale, which is the pentatonic scale with an added blues note. Most of the time we play that scale in a box which is over the barre cord based on an E chord position. What Marty is showing is an extension of those notes below and above that box. When he says "and were now ... (6:12) he is back on top of that common pentatonic box.

Thanks Marty, nice run down the fretboard.

    Big Ron

  • Niice lesson ... Very informative and i like the way you noodle around to show us what can be done (in the bigger picture) ... Keep em commin ...

  • Hey Marty,

Where does this come into play with theory? Is that a patern that was just made up for lick purposes or is there a scale involved? What is this pattern called?

    Thanks :)

  • @blink2wice79 You can play this extended scales pattern with the Am Blues Progression

  • Grande Marty , sei il migliore.

  • You're the man Marty. I have learned so much from you.

  • @iplaymetallica You talkin about Marty? (if not please disregard) Simply, Marty is one of the sickest teachers on youtube. He's not a noob. Haters really suck. Learn to appreciate all.

  • @iplaymetallica -- you're in the wrong place dude. Gay love and bass players are on a whole different channel. This channel is for learning to play. If you already play metallica, you're wasting your time here anyway. You already know everything.

    Excellent video Marty! Thanks.

  • Awesome playing, you make me wish I took the guitar more seriously back when I was a kid.

  • OK - Wizzard of You Tube videos, did you go get a green screen to shoot in front of? It really looks cool. How did you do it?

Yeah I know Col Sanders don't tell about the chicken spices either.

Thanks for the extended lesson. Great lesson

    Big Ron

  • @Vermillion2176

mostly all you need to do a green screen effect, is a large sheet of green fabric, and some bright lights shining on them.

Most video editing programs have "chrome key" and "picture and picture" effects, it should be in there.

  • Ok,,,very good

  • cool lesson. marty are your jazz dvd's still available?

  • Very nice fail at saying hello :D

  • Hey guys. sorry but noob needs help. I just began learning and playing the scales and I heard Marty talk about the extension of the c-minor pentatonic scale. Is there such thing (or did I miss out on something?) and if yes how does the tab look for it?

Please help me out and thank you in advance guys!

    Great vid of course !

  • @Corpsegrinder1712 for the c minor pent the tab would be

    e 11-13

    B 11--13

    G 8--10--12

    D 8--10

    A 6--8--10

    E 6--8

I suggest you learn it as C, Eb, F, G, Bb

  • @ISS5731 Thanks man ! You really helped me out on that one ! Is it possible to even add the blues notes (A-9) and (G-10) to this extension of the c-minor scale so that it would be for String A :6-8-(9)-10 and for the G-string: 8-10-(11)-12 ? Thanks again !

  • @Corpsegrinder1712 It sure would, just don't use them too often, which is a common mistake. The way I do it is I don't think of them as part of the scale, but just an extra note that can be added every once in a while. But just keep practicing. Also, if you have an iPhone or iTouch, you should get the app "guitarists reference". it is extremely helpful.

  • @ISS5731 I really appreciate your help ! Thanks. Thats really helpfull for me. I wanna use the Blues notes to fill little gaps or like an extra note for a lick or "doodle" that I play along the neck. But I dont have an iPhone unfortunately. Please excuse my english but I hope you understand what I'm saying. So thanks again for your help and regards from Germany !

  • @Corpsegrinder1712 Not a problem. Also feel free to message me if you have any more questions, and I'll do my best to answer them.

  • @Corpsegrinder1712 You can play the minor scale/minor pentatonic all over the neck. The extensions are just other positions of the scale. So basically the extensions are simply somewhere else you can play the scale on the neck. In total, i believe there are 5 positions of the minor pentatonic. However, it is probably better to learn the notes of the scale, and find where they are located, like ISS5731 said.

  • @PurityCurse I heard that scales can be played in different positions put I dont know the rules behind it. I have no clue considering theory yet.

  • @Corpsegrinder1712 well, in short in most scales there are 4 or 5 patterns until you reach the 12th fret, and to play a run or lick you just find the first note and go from there. its good to be able to do it because it gives a huge amount of variety in your playing

  • @rwebb61 Ok I got that. Can you give me a link or a vid that explains why and where I have to play these different patterns for each key? I saw Blues musicians doing that but I just thought that they would jump in between different scales during their solo parts. Thanks for your help !
