  • I'm so glad I found this video! People always ask me my ethnicity and I tell them I'm half Thai & half Swiss but the idiots at my school don't even know where Thailand or Switzerland is. They just call me part asian or "mexican/italian" because I look italian for some reason ahaha. But now I finally can use a word to describe my ethnicity, feeels good. (:

  • I'm still going through the phase where I don't know which side of my ethnicity I want to identify with. Sometimes I want to be full Chinese, sometimes not, and sometimes I just identify myself as hapa. Eh. Anyway, this is a great video!

  • @brittneyvalenzano

Smithsonian Institution, National Museum of natrual history in washington DC

I Know the exhibit moves around we've had it here for a few months so far. =3

  • I love the fact that there are SO many hapas here in SoCal and in NorCal too! It's such a fun experience whenever I meet another hapa. I really want that book by Kip Fulbeck so much now :)

  • hey guys, what about me, I know its kinda lame, but does it count/matter if I am only 1//16 chines since both of my parents are 1/16 chines too??

  • @octobervalley not sure but who cares?! just claim it lol! thanks for watching :)

  • HAPA POWAH !! I'm proud to be a Hapa hehe ^-^

  • @rosebud1028 yes!! and you should be!

  • I really needed to see this, thanks for putting it up. I'm mixed with Spanish, Japanese, and Native American mostly, but I look like I'm just White American, and if I try to identify myself with/as anything other than that, I always hear the "You don't look Japanese/ Native American/ Spanish! You're lying, you're just white". I remember we had to go around in class and raise our hand when the teacher said our race, and I remember getting detention by refusing to raise my hand at "just White".

  • @iGyaruDiaries thank YOU for watching and leaving such an insightful comment. I know exactly how you must have felt. sorry your teacher is an idiot!

  • I'll take Chirish any day

  • @macquackz lol. cool, I'm Chitalian!

  • @brittneyvalenzano yeah! Scotchinese, Chirish, whatever you wanna say, all good.

  • Wow Brittney looks like Olivia Munn! :D

  • chinese italian = american. in china or italy i suspect you you'd tell the natives your the same the same as they are.

welcome to the us. the land of politics, but no identity. i never met an italian in italy who didnt speak italian. same goes for china.

pretend your chinese or italian if it makes you feel better about yourself.

  • Hey im chinese and viet i dont think that counts but, when i was in middle school i hung out with the mexicans cuz the other asians didnt want to chill with my ass lol i dont know the reason y thoe, but if they dont wana chill with u cuz your half asian and the other is whatever then .... Fuck them....

  • @EmptyPlate48 yeah fuck them! haha jk, that's not nice. but I'm glad you found a good group of friends who accept you for who you are. thanks for watching my video!

  • I'm japanese and aussie but for some reason when I was abt 5 I wanted to be "Hawaiian"... I must've thought that everyone from Hawaii are like a melting pot of ethnicities and cool :) Anyway HAPA PRIDE!

  • @hapabubba that is such a beautiful mix! yes, Hapa pride!

  • What I'd do to be a Hapa D:...they're so beautiful :C

  • @Acoontey aw thank you so much

  • half german, half vietnamese my mom is of chinese descent and my dad is from italien descent:)I know nobody actually cares.

  • @annaapplepie1803 of course we care!! that's a beautiful mix!

  • I agree with the future bit, where mostly everyone will be mixed. Im half chinese with maori, spanish and english.

  • @MotoXGirl95 great mix! I hope that future bit becomes true. Wouldn't it be neat to surrounded by hapas ;)

  • woot woot half filipino / half irish n ive always loved both sides!... ;)

  • @perturbedlilo yes! love it!

  • Am Thai/British! :D

  • So, if I'm "Hapa" (Fil/Blk) and I have 18 kids with Kristin Kreuk, will our kids be Hapa? Could that possibly make them "super Hapa" or some kind of hybrid Hapa?

You see, we should come up with a name for that

  • @onegaisti I definitely think they would be super hapa. and if you somehow ended up having kids with kristin kreuk, you'd be superman! I agree, a name is needed but I think you may have just created it..."super hapa." I'll have to keep that one in my notes. thanks for watching!

  • hapa people look super cute

  • If you didn't live in such a racial obsessed country you'd never have to worry about having your own "label"

  • iam hispanic and half asian -________-

  • @Hujfsb1

Dude. There's no hispanic race. American media ignorance is unbelievable.

Hispanic = anything related to Spain.

  • @Hujfsb1 very cool

  • cool ~ theres a a new exbit called the " race" exibit in the musuem i work in and , it has "hapas" in it, im so happy even if there are only about 2 others aside from myself in my group X3

  • @Darkartscontrol that is awesome! where can I find this museum??

  • when your multi-racial or hapa there is really no need to label your self as all or neither or either but that could be just how i feel. i like your video though.

  • OH MY GOSH I finally met another half Chinese half Italian person!

  • @lovefromcaroline Cool! Very nice to meet you caroline :)

  • hawaianwhite/filipino/chinese.....and my ex bf was a hot dutch/filo ,, go hapas!

  • @spikeyerz great mixes!!

  • lol this video was shown to me by my friend claiming I am this type of "race" i have never heard of this term "hapa" until my friend told me lol... but after watching this video i think i am one.. my father is from the Middle East Jordan.. and my mother is Filipina....

  • @mycheychey welcome 2 d club! i present 2 u a virtual cookie :)

  • @mycheychey of course you are! I'm so glad your friend showed you my video. now that you know you're a hapa, be proud and embrace it. we're pretty freakin awesome

  • I am married to a Vietnamese guy and my little girl is now half Vietnamese and half Eastern European. She is the cutest thing in the world. I think mixed races will bring peace to this world.

  • @Vieteuro I bet she's absolutely beautiful.

  • I'm a Hapa. Korean, Scotch-Irish, English and German. Usually I pass for White. There's few times other people see me as Hispanic, Hawaiian or Asian.

  • I'm going to buy his book! I made a tiny documentary about hapas w/ people at my college. Btw I wanna transfer to SFSU for journalism!

  • @thehapagirl92 cool! is it on youtube? I'd love to see it

  • Comment removed

  • @brittneyvalenzano Sadly I didn't get to make it because I only found like 3 hapas. My college is full of Asians but only a few are hapas :/, btw have you read his book :)?

  • Asian/Black = Chigger or Niggook.

    Asian/White = Honknip or Crackdink.

  • Would Hapas find the term 'halfling' offensive?

  • @lyraelx not sure. I wouldn't be offended. But it depends on the person. "Hapa," however is the most flattering term. use it!

  • Come on guys. If you're going to be proud to be hapa, at least learn how to pronounce it correctly! Ha-pa. Not hap-a. You're making us look bad.

  • Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan) is majority hapa. Thousands of years of mixing Turkish, Chinese, Mongolian & Russian/Slavic people. Beautiful mix!

  • you can never go wrong upon mixing with a filipino

  • hmm im hapa

  • @whitefang107 that's great!

  • SFSU?! I'm transferring to San Fran in 2 years and I'm hapa lol. I HATE how people ask me are you really half asian/half white? It's like why would I lie!

  • In Britain it's more common to see hapas with Asian fathers and white mothers. There are celebrities like Alexa Chung, Gwok Wan, Anna Chen on TV and radio.

  • instead of using a hawaiian term we use to identify people of OUR culture fighting what you are fighting.. why dont u own your OWN ethnicity and use a asian word? youre fighting racial insensitivity by BEING racially insensitive to the hawaiian culture!

  • ----------- why are asians talking about feeling ethnically repressed and treated differently because of their racial background YET using a HAWAIIAN word/term. You arent hawaiian.. why r u using a hawaiian word? Is there no asian word/term for half or part? Youre being racially insensitive while complaining about others being racially insensitive to you.

  • @kuualoha96734 lol don't you know hawaiians decended from asians anyways? and the first hapa people were from hawaii! which is why we use the term hapa ¬__¬ if you didn't already know then i'll let you know right now that noone owns language hawaians don't own the word 'hapa' like caucasians don't own the language we're both using right now since we're not disrespecting hawaii hawaiians or hawaiian culture please refrain from disrespecting us

  • @tokyodoru I AM Hawaiian you moron. Hawaiians did NOT decend from Asians (you wish!). We are Polynesian, completely different ethnicity. Just because asians were brought over 2 Hawai'i as slaves & theyre still lots of asians in Hawai'i (unfortunately) to this day, doesnt mean asians are Hawaiian! If youre complaining about people being racial insensitive to you yet using a language other then your own (and using it incorrectly) YOU are being racially insensitive! why not use a asian word?

  • @kuualoha96734 shame you don't even know your own history a BIG amount of hawaiians are directly decended from japanese seems you don't know there's only 3 base racial categories ASIAN CAUCASIAN BLACK from caucasoid decends s.asians + middle easterns under asian is mongols < e. asian inuit native indian pacific islander and polynesians all decend from you can deny it that won't change history + most asian mixed people have always been in hawaii which is why that word 'hapa' became used

  • @tokyodoru Its a shame your mother gave birth to a moron! Hawaiians are not Asian. There is actual DNA proof of that. And I HAVE contacted multiple DNA companies to verify that, you should do the same. Polynesian DNA as well as some hispanic DNA is complex and therefore it is unable to show clearly (by the current DNA tests available... although they are working on tests that would work with us).

  • @tokyodoru further more Japanese have not "always" been in Hawai'i and the word Hapa was NEVER used to describe Japanese or any asians.. it was used to describe Half WHITE / half Hawaiian people and is a shortened version of its original hapa haole, which means half white. You should really educate yourself before speaking because it only makes you seem ignorant. Learn to like your OWN culture instead of trying to pretend youre Hawaiian... you arent, never have been, never will be.

  • @tokyodoru and how can a "big" amount of Hawaiians be descendant of Japanese.. what about the rest? LOL moron.

  • @kuualoha96734 lmao! firstly my mothers hispanic so dont even try to lecture on our origins, secondly if you knew kip fullbeck and his books then you'd know most of us are aware hapa was first used to describe hawaiian/white mixes but words evolve dummy.. polynesians are of mongolian decent.. NOT only mongolian decent but partially you're just ignorant or in denial either way it's the same outcome now.. you may find this hard to believe but people have lifes get the fck out of mine

  • interesting documentary. i liked it though. addressed a lot of ideas that i think people should think about and decide on.

  • Someone should start a Hapa-club... xP

  • @arisuoy hey! we should! :)

  • I'm 100% Hapa. :)

  • @ladymadam3 love it :)

  • @ladymadam3 Amen.

  • we are MIXICANS...the race of the future.

  • mmmm we all are humans...nothing else matters.

  • People try to place people in boxes, whether it be gay, straight, white, black, asian. With us mixed race people we dont have any one identity that we can group with, which creates an experience unique to just us. It definitely has its pro's and cons but im extremely proud to be of mixed origin.

    Filipino Irish!!!!

  • OMFG!!!!!!!!

    IM CHINESE ITALIAN TOOOOOOOOOO!

    wow...that is kool.

    not many of those.

n yea my french teacher gave me detention for saying i was chinese. i was like 'fine dont believe me'

  • Mutt is such an ugly word. Hapa sounds nicer.

  • @iwasborninyourbutt

I like the word "mutt". Pure-bred dogs are only more valuable because humans place inordinate value on their physical similarity to a certain prototype.

The only rule in breeding mutts, OTOH, is survival of the fittest. This results in a healthier gene pool. Ask any hunter, mutts are the most intelligent & healthiest dogs. If Hapas are the mutts of the human world, then the future belongs to them.

  • i had no idea you were chinese and italian! good vid!

  • LOL hapa power :D
