While God's existence can't be empirically it also can't be disproved. People just have to follow their gut feeling that we're here for a reason which given the circumstances of life is not an unreasonable thing to believe. Dogmatism of any sort (including atheism) is the problem, not religion. People just need to do the best they can with the knowledge and understanding they are given, and yes, institutionalized religion does have a tendency to make people behave irrationally.
