I can see how this would work for your fast roll characters, but how would this go with a fat character? Would the methods here still work, just with greater chance of getting backstabbed again?
Maybe you cover this later, but a video upped by sansvie shows that if you hold a direction and guard on Oki, you would be able to safely escape both chain and delayed chain BS.
Question: If your are on the receiving end of a Delayed Chain BS, do you not notice your opponent sprinting towards your roll? This seems to be the case for me, where my opponent seems to only circle strafe a few feet before landing the second BS, or in some cases they don't move at all.
There is another pretty simple way to counter chain bs and it's just hitting unlocked your opponent right after you totally stand up. Fast hitting weapons like small curved swords, even a simple hand axe or small straight swords can punish imprudent chain bstabbers.
@ValkyriePROfile83 this is kinda' getting into layers I didn't want to discuss, notably stuff dependent on load-out. There actually a ton of layers in that shit, and I keep applying the magnifying glass to certain subjects as long as I feel the information is relatively useful.
Yes the gameplay in pvp is broken, it is obvious (it's not even like some games where a glitch/bug actually help to enrich gameplay) but one have to keep in mind that FROM Software never did the game around pvp, it's a PVE game first.
But if you want to take pvp seriously you can, there's enough skill for that.
@Infernalis792 this game is actually held together by glitches that PvPers find beneficial, such as Dead Angle. You're correct however, this game isn't balanced at all for PvP... but I've yet to play a RPG since D2X where online PvP even remotely felt balanced... and this was in the Enigma period. They had to give all classes teleport just to make the PvP passable in that game. That being said I play it because I enjoy it... not because it's balanced.
great vid, I knew the roll towards them thing to avoid chains bs already. It also helps to turn lock-on off when you do it as well... but the rest was completely brand new to me. I especially love the first part about laggstabs or whatever it was that you guys called it, because that happens to me A LOT! lol!.. and I had no idea that it could be countered in the way that you guys were showing @ 1:26... that is just awesome, I can't thank you enough for this vid! I got some practicing to do :-P
@meisterkai Working around a glitchy mess, where half the strategy is to "plan" on animation skips and lag....yeah. I'd say that's broken. Still a great game, don't get me wrong. I just hate playing online, and constantly wondering "Will the next guy I play with end up being one of those laggy glitch bastards?" Don't play online, sure. But then I'm missing half the fun.

@PhantomEWGF Thanks for assuming I am a new player but unfortunately you don't have to be new at this game to realise the pvp is broken. However it is amusing how Gfags still try to claim the game is worth taking seriously. GG
@PhantomEWGF i remeber hag teaching me the counter bs in ds, and all these other things. most of them dont work in dks because of the armount of people that just tank with havels
@PhantomEWGF you turn as you swing, before getting hit by a bs i ment, and when people use a greataxe or somthing big swinging like that all they have to do is stand there and swing. because of the big swing they turn as they swing towards the locked on target, makes them hit and the oppenant not being able to get behind.
@runescapeep1c Unlocked punish? That's would have worked in DeS too. That doesn't make counter BS "not work" however, it's just a counter to your counter.
I leave the scene for a few days/weeks and this major revelation is found! Sweet vid as always, I get caught in those side roll BS's all the time because I tend to be way too predictable in fights, oh well lol.
@meisterkai Pep showed me this standing stuff. He was sitting on it, and at first didn't want me to discuss it in this video because well, he rather enjoyed the forum crying, but then went ahead and gave me permission. To be fair... I'm guessing very few people knew this. I didn't even know it myself until a few days ago. When he showed me, I went into emergency video-making mode... hell I'm still tooling with the footage we made.
Oh you made the right decision to post this before anything we did, no contest. People need to know this.
I know the title of the movie poster you used in the opening btw, I wonder how many more people do lol. It's actually a really funny movie in a "I feel guilty for laughing" sort of way, like Black Dynamite.
When you feel like playing some good ol' pvp you should join one of the chats, It will be you TheWinged and I against the legions of PinGiants.
@the596 as far as I can see this doesn't seem to work to well. This was the method I was using at first, and I found I was still getting chain BSed rather easily by everyone I was running tests with.
After posting this, I've had other players tell me they weren't too happy with the "Rising Block" method either.
@PhantomEWGF Ah thanks, I wasn't really convinced it would work either, but I thought I'd put it out there since I saw it done a lot on sansvieddotcom's videos.
@the596 I'm not saying it wont work at all. I'm being careful enough because I don't have solid answers on it, and I don't recommend it. I'm saying it didn't work for me much (not at all really) and this did. I tried it a fair bit, and got badly mixed results. If it works for you however don't stop using it.
@PhantomEWGF I haven't tried it yet truthfully. All the people I've seen use it in the videos, didn't get chain backstabbed because the person performing oki chose not to try and perform a chain backstab. So I have no real proof that it'd work at all, it was simply me hoping it'd work. As always, thanks for clearing things up.
@Yakuzaboss22 that's kind of the point. BSing especially is this massive hump for new players to overcome. Getting crushed in a matter of seconds isn't much fun... so knowing how to not die instantly to it is nice, and encourages new blood. Keep at it.
How long does it take, and what would you recommend for getting together with a friend by invading to practice like this?

It's sad how lag is so inherent to this game's netcode that you gotta build your gameplay techniques around it!

PvP is sooo butchered in this game. Its rare to get into combat with a another player. A 1v1 arena matchmaking system would be cool.

Do you know if this method works against Backstabs as well?
As you're getting up:
-Lock on to your opponent
-Guard with whatever you have in your left hand
It seems to cancel your getting up animation into the guarding animation as well as quick turn you to face your opponent.
