  • Oh, how i remember the first time i heard him at the old Met. I thought it was the most beautiful sound i ever heard. I was used to Tucker, Del Monaco etc. so when i heard him- i flipped. The "sweetness" filled the house. Love him.

  • Du chant fin!

  • What a great artist, I did not know incredible maestro, poetic and beautiful voice. Thank you for posting great video and Kievest for introducing and sharing

  • Beautifully sung.TY Candy for sending and Gabba02 for posting.

  • A simple peasant boy with a voice of gold! Exceptional posting...thank you!

  • Splendido Valletti ! Perfetto Nemorino !!!

    BRAVO!!!!! 5*****

  • @jeanmolin55 : condivido pienamente carissimo, grazie per la segnalazione !

  • I heard them all- well, most of 'em. The first time i heard Valletti (in the old house) i couldn't believe the sound. It brought tears to my eyes. It "immediately" got to me. None of his recordings do him justice. The TOWN HALL concerts just didn't record well. Though not a large voice, it "floated "over the house and the sound was- well, the likes of which we'll never hear again. LOVE CESARE VALLETTI.

  • I feel sorry for anyone who can't appriciate this wonderful bel canto singing in the old Italian style.

  • Try to find his Town Hall concert of 1959 or '60. It is one of the loveliest examples of artistic use of the lyric instrument EVER.

I auditioned for Italo Tajo 30+ years ago & he, who sang w/Shipa & Valletti, said I reminded him of them. ....I got the part.

  • When I hear pasfresh123 saying that he likes Valetti better than Pav. I realize how great opera is. There will always be one that likes Lanza better than Caruso and Nelson Eddy better than Tibbett

  • Beatiful voices from past ....Bravo Cesare Valletti

  • So true...sadly he is probably the last of that lineage.

  • I love Valletti, but he never gained the fame that others had eventhough he is a true master of real italian lyricism

  • @vocetenor -Valletti,who was initially taught by the wonderful Tito Schipa, never achieved great fame in the USA. One of the reasons was that he was deeply insulted by the egotistical Rudolph Bing when both were at the MET.I think that was around 1960. Valletti was so offended that he vowed he would never sing at the Met again. And he never did.He was a marvelous light, lyric tenor, and his superb legato, phrasing and diction, indeed remind me of Schipa. Bravo Valletti !

  • Oh I love this,.Thank you!

  • Valetti made lots of recordings for Cetra and RCA

Victor. His recorded voice is dry and raspy. Sounds

    better here.

I heard him sing Berlioz w/ the Minneapolis Symphony

in the 60s. I thought the thick orchestration would be a problem, but it wasn't.

His voice was golden. Sailed out into the auditorium.

What a pity the engineers could never capture that

    wonderful sound.

Of course, other tenors like Corelli, Vickers and Gedda all sounded better on stage too. Tucker/

    Peerce sounded same.

  • he's dressed like one of the marx brothers but the voice is pleasant indeed

  • Hahaha.....I thought the costumes and sets look like an old "I Love Lucy" episode, when she'd spoof opera with Ethel. Good one from you!!!

  • I just listened to Pavarotti sing Spirto gentil (La Favorita, live 1974). This is 100 times better. This voice is pleasant to listen to, he makes it interesting.

  • Wow...now that's really saying something. I'll have to compare, myself, but...I certainly do admire Mr. Valletti.

  • I love Cesare Valletti's beautiful voice and excellent phrasing. A very special tenor, indeed.

  • He is really in character. This isn't like a recital this is like an opera -- he is telling a story. He is really good!!!!

  • Cesare Valletti is a real artist: elegant phrasing; a real BelCanto tenor. He is not just singing Nemorino... HE IS NEMORINO!

  • Valetti > Kraus or Di Stefano.

  • what's great is that he doen't make any easy effect.I really believe he is Nemorino and not a singer singing Nemorino. Great artist.

  • one of the best nemorinos ever

  • Great!!!Bel canto

  • Valletti was a wonderful lyric tenor with the classic belcanto training. Although his voice was light,he had seamless legato and a very solid technique. His mezza voce and pianissimi singing was beautiful. His style and timbre remind me of the great Tito Schipa.

  • Cesare Valletti was in fact a pupil of Tito Schipa.

  • Really? It shows. The timbre and diction are similar. Very beautiful.

  • Classic. Pity that it's a film.

  • If it wasn't a film we wouldn't be able to enjoy it.
