Night vision can come in many varieties, from scopes, goggles, cameras, and binoculars. Its up to you which to get based on what you need. If you can get it, anything for military/police applications or military/police use will probably have the best quality, but finding it and price may be hard, though there are surly companies that sell high end equipment to civilians.

You do not have to use Gen 3 goggles. All Gen 3 does is improve the clarity of what you see, but you are viewing stars so it does not matter really. I have built a Gen 1 cascase scope which is probably Gen 1+/2 in clarity plus have a telephoto lens which enables me to see much farther than these Gen goggle which do not have magnification,

For a good started a Yukon digitial night vision is good for skywatching.

From what I understand, it doesn't have to be *HIS* goggles, just those of the same "generation" (the 3rd) of night-vision technology in order to see things the most & clearest. Unfortunately, the 3rd generation versions are the most expensive ones so that puts it out of the realm of purchasing for many if not most people.

With 6th GEN NVs you only see so much, the heat Sig's, a Trifield scope is much better, there are too many of them, everywhere, big as a football stadium. We only see in the UVLFS of 400nm-700nm Infered only see's the heat Signature, you shouldc be seeing in 330nm 500nmHD 820nm You'll flip!!! REDSHIFT UVLFS were sitting ducks!

Actually all you need is Gen. 1 night vision. They are pretty cheap. Any where from $50 to $200. I get mine on Ebay. I see craft a lot with them .Now if you want to use a video camera with them, you need to by an adaptor or make one. The ones Ed have which I think is 3rd Gen will set you back over 3 G's. If you want just as good if not better than Gen 3, get digital night vision or for about $1300 get Supervision by Xenoics. They are equal to them.

Ridicule... I was in Tasmania last year and we saw something flash twice above a hill nearby. The were no other lights, and no sound, and I wasn't a first timer so I knew exacly what was going on. Looking up there were lights everywhere, trailing each other, turning, fading in and out of view. The people I was with mocked me and keep repeating that there had to be some 'reasonable explanation.' They went to bed, I stayed up. They missed out, I didn't.
