to me this song embodies myself and my ex in many ways. i will always wonder whether the part of him that i really loved was real or put-on, but i was always on his side...the one that was warm and witty and loyal. right up until i really saw that he was like two men under one suit of skin, and the other was dark and totalitarian. years after we ended things, and contact, the answer still eludes me.
