@ilania95 Because she techically is a doctor being the ship's couselor. She basically is the ship's shrink, all the medical and science staff wear blue. And she is much more casual than others in early episodes. Maybe makes things easier on the crew. Just my view.

I agree that the idea of the character -- a very smart boy who was fascinated by the starship and got such an awesome opportunity to see it would have been great. However, the writers a) went way over the top with the idea and b) made the character really irritating. Unfortunate. Star Trek and children just don't seem to mix well.
