Nice review Grumpy. The thing that hurt this film was definitely the plot. The animation is there, music is there, but plot kills the entire film. This would've worked better as a series.
And I agree with Geotrio. Mukai was Sawa, and it becomes pretty apparent if you watch Kite & Kite Liberator back to back.
Great review as always. In regards to the Mukai plotline I think that Mukai is Sawa. Basically they had her story in jigsaw pieces so the viewer had to put it together. Like when she questions Monika about her combat during that diner incident or when they were describing Mukai and her daughter and the whereabouts of the father. Or having the two light fireworks, where the protagonist of the original kite and the new kite spend time together in the final moments before the big fight scene.
Great Review, the first Kite is very disturbing but a fascinating piece none the less, this seems a little on the strange on the end and your right it does seem not to mix well, but I have not seen it, but from your clips and what i have heard, you seem to be right about this!

The space shuttle entering the station scene at the start reminded me of a penis penetrating a vagina...

It's not quite at the Gantz or Helsing level, but, yes, it has plenty of blood with the violence.

Good review. Did you know that the toilet scene in the 1st Kite fim inspired the No Doubt music video, "Ex-Girlfriend"?
