RIP Mme Vaussard. I never met you but since watching this video a couple of years ago I imagine corrections from you in my own class. Thank you for your inspiration and Thank YOU YOUTUBE.
The students dressed in pink are: Ghislaine Fallou (left) and Clairemarie Osta (right).
- Fallou was quickly promoted to première danseuse after she entered the company, but unfortunately she developed anorexia and had to give up ballet. Nothing is know of her later career.
- Clairemarie Osta is currently étoile of the POB and is married to Nicolas Le Riche, also étoile. They have a daughter, Eve.
Many people don't get what ballet means, don't get what it requires and all that dancers need to sacrifice in order to have a career in dance. It is not just about having fun and dancing,it is painful, they took your childhood and transform you in an small adult and it requires and extreme amount of discipline. Is way harder than the majority of sports and it requires a certain physic that if you don't have it,its pointless to take dance lessons expecting to have a career as ballet dancer.
Wow!!! C inhumain a cette age danser avec tant de controle , de precision et dexpression dans des exercises si rapides. En plus elles son tellement mince et parfaites...juste wow je narriverais jamais a ca!
I only favourited this video because of the two girls in the pink at the beginning. It took me six months to learn a quarter of those things and they dance as if it were easy as breathing or tying your shoes.
What a lot of people who make remarks on skinny ballerinas don't realize is that they have to support every bit of their weight on their toes. The less they weigh, the less pressure. Also, with as much movement as dance requires, it's no wonder they're skinny if they're dancing all day long.
true enough but mostly it's about the line the body presents to the eye. Ballet is all about long, elegant lines--down to the point of the toe lengthening the line of the leg. So the narrower the body, the more desirable as a tool for ballet.
@fallonhadley i totally agree. It's only a bad thing if they're skinny for the wrong reasons. Dancing eight hours a day, most likely more is not something easy and it will definitely change you physically. They're thin, but you can tell in most cases it's a healthy thin because their faces aren't gaunt and their bodies are still well-proportioned.
@fallonhadley I totally disagree with you, I used to think like you until I saw XIXth century ballerinas : they're not skinny at all, they are of normal weight and corpulence, they are even plump ; however, they danced very well, and their partners had no problems to support them. Why? Because at this time, people liked real women, unlike now, where men only love skeletons on feets. Now, they choose skinny girls because it's more pretty when they all look like each other on the stage
@Malon4Ever Yes, I know...I've seen pictures of them too. But how do you know how well they danced and if their partners had problems? Film back then wasn't that good. Ballet is more competitive today than ever before, and skinnier ballerinas do get ahead - they're not necessarily better, they just look nicer on stage, so they have more opportunities to progress and get lead roles. It's sad, and it is certainly potentially damaging, but it's a truth of society.
@fallonhadley XIXth century was the golden age of ballet, it had all the most famous classical composers and choregraphers like the russian ones, for exemple : the ballerinas danced same roles as nowadays, so if they didn"t dance that well, choregraphers would have chosen easier choregraphies. If their partners had real problems to support them, they would have been thinner, because it was their job and they had to accept to loose weight, as today they have to be skinny to enter a dance school.
@Malon4Ever That doesn't mean the ballerinas executed the steps as well; like I said, ballet has become much more competitive. Also, society's image of beauty has changed since then - rounder girls were considered beautiful then, skinnier girls are now. Besides that, skinnier girls do have an easier time of it overall. Less pressure on their own bodies as well as those of their partners. There can be amazing dancers with all body types, but to get ahead today a dancer must be slim and muscular.
And you don't realise how many dancers battle with anorexia. Of course you have to be thin to dance, but you still have to be healthy. Too skinny is unhealthy.
Ca veut dire quoi ces préjugés de m**** ?!!!Alors maintenant on est ballerines donc on est squelletiques? Elles sont juste minces et merveilleuses comme ca !
I love what she is doing at 1:07. It just looks so easy and gracile and everybody who is dancing ballet knows that this is anything but easy. Great video really thanks for posting.

I really wish I could see more of her. I have loved her!
love ghislane fallou!! its so sad that she couldnt dance because of anorexia.... such a pity. was she anorexic here?? and are there any dvds of her dancing?
well i guess because of soo much competitionn around you and also its hard being "the Best" because theres gonna be so much rumors / jealousy and i guess some ballerinas just fall into depression which sometimes leads to anorexia,
that exercise poiinte exercise in the middle is very difficult!! i tried to teach it (i am a ballet teacher) and my stroongest students were not ready for it! its harder than it looks!
if the 'cool' people say that its boring and stuff- thay know NOTHING about ballet! at the beginning of this year half my class thought that a pirouette was just twirling around with your finger in your head! they know different now though...
BALLERINAS HAVE BEAUTIFUL STRENGTH!!!! LOL the movements that they do require focus and a lot of strength. flexibility is not aqquired in ballet

y is there alot of anorexia?sad aint it....i do ballet but in ireland so there is like noooooo pressure lol
jokerswifeno2 3 years ago
well i guess because of soo much competitionn around you and also its hard being "the Best" because theres gonna be so much rumors / jealousy and i guess some ballerinas just fall into depression which sometimes leads to anorexia,
balletgirl2311wp 3 years ago
thats really sad
but i can see where the pressure comes from
i feel it too sometimes and its quite hard

i dont now anything about ballet but i think it looks funky and pretty not that bad how the "cool people" say...
SimonEigo 3 years ago
if the 'cool' people say that its boring and stuff- thay know NOTHING about ballet! at the beginning of this year half my class thought that a pirouette was just twirling around with your finger in your head! they know different now though...
